Chapter 12
Three days later, Ward Jimmy carried Vanny Jimmy on his back, and together with Dawn Allen, they went to the water source to fetch water.
By this point, Ward Jimmy had already reached the Second Level of the beginner stage. Coupled with his exceptionally strong physique, it wasn’t difficult for him to keep up with Dawn Alens, whose magical power was superior to his own.
With Dawn Allen’s first spiritual skill, they didn’t encounter any spiritual beasts along the way, so things went fairly smoothly. But just as Dawn Allen said, they weren’t far anymore. Ward Jimmy suddenly felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. The voice of the high elf, Tian Yao, echoed in his mind.
“Stop for a moment.”
Ward Jimmy barely managed to utter those two words. Dawn Allen, who was leading the way ahead, turned around in confusion. Didn’t this man complain yesterday that he was dying of thirst? How come now, just as we’re almost there, he stops again?
“Is there any problem ahead?”
“There’s no time to explain.” Ward Jimmy’s brows furrowed into a tight “V” shape. As that thing approached, the flame within his energy core grew more and more violent, to the point where spiritual energy sometimes spilled out around him.
“Something’s coming this way. You know how to draw barrier talismans, right? Help me out!” Ward Jimmy handed two pieces of parchment to Dawn Allen. He then bit his finger and began drawing on the talismans.
“It’s done.”
Dawn Allen handed the completed talisman to Ward Jimmy. Ward Jimmy glanced at it, then added something to the upper-left corner of the talisman that Dawn Allen couldn’t understand. Without further explanation, Ward Jimmy looked up at the sun and began to calculate the directions.
“That’s north. Stick these four talismans in the southeast, northeast, southwest, and northwest corners.”
Dawn Allen had just finished placing the talismans when, before she could ask what had happened, a scream came from not far away.
That cry clearly wasn’t made by an ordinary human. Humans don’t have such a vicious-sounding voice, unless they’re black magicians who have gone astray in their cultivation.
But Ward Jimmy disagreed that it was a human voice. Such a voice would stir the divine fire within him. It couldn’t possibly be something as simple as a human’s voice!
It must be a magical beast! No, it might even be a fierce beast!
Ward Jimmy muttered incantations. With a “Open!”, a simple barrier was created. Dawn Allen was about to speak, but Ward Jimmy covered her mouth. Dawn Allen gestured that she understood, then quietly crouched down beside Ward Jimmy.
In less than a minute, the trees in the southeast began to collapse, moving straight toward Ward Jimmy’s barrier! From a distance, it resembled a giant beast covered in pitch-black darkness, with only its eyes emitting red light.
With a fierce look in its eyes, it truly is a ferocious beast!
The fierce beast grew closer and closer to Ward Jimmy. Its horrible appearance became visible to Dawn Allen and Ward Jimmy.
It was a giant lizard-like creature. Perhaps it was the largest one Ward Jimmy had ever seen in his life.
Three meters tall, with red eyes, and thick smoke coming from its nostrils and mouth.
With its four legs on the ground, it left huge footprints behind. Its front legs were equipped with long, sharp claws. Ward Jimmy thought to himself that if one of those claws landed on his head, then En Allen would finally get to see what it meant for a head to explode.
Seeing that the lizard’s feet were just a few steps away from stepping onto Ward Jimmy’s barrier, Dawn Allen was shocked. Could it be that Ward Jimmy wanted to trap her inside the barrier and let her be stepped on to death? That’s why he told her to stay inside the barrier.
Dawn Allen sneered inwardly. She had actually begun to see Ward Jimmy in a different light, but now it seemed she had been completely wrong! Who would have thought that Ward Jimmy would go to such extremes just for the Spirit Beast King’s inner essence!
Dawn Allen channeled her spiritual energy to release a fragrant scent within the barrier. This was a secondary skill of her first spiritual technique—Fragrant Charm.
As long as one smells the fragrance, they will fall into a deep sleep.
After seeing Ward Jimmy fall to the ground, Dawn Allen quietly slipped out of the barrier and hid nearby, ready to watch as the lizard dragon trampled Ward Jimmy to death.
The lizard-like creature slowly approached the barrier, then twisted its body and headed in Dawn Allen’s direction!
Dawn Allen widened her eyes. Lizards didn’t have very good eyesight. She had clearly written an incantation to block out scents on herself before coming out. So why was this lizard still approaching her?
There’s no time to waste thinking about Dawn Allen right now. Although lizard dragons are generally gentle by nature, they truly despise humans. If it were to notice us…
Dawn Allen couldn’t bear to imagine what would happen to her. There was only one thing she could do: run away!
Dawn Allen didn’t even dare to look back to see how far away that lizard dragon was from her.
If only she hadn’t come out of the barrier! Now, Ward Jimmy, the only person who might be able to save her, has also been bewitched by her enchanting scent. It seems she’s doomed today.
Dawn Allen only regretted not trusting Ward Jimmy a little more. The wind howled in her ears, and suddenly, some unknown object blocked out the sun. When Dawn Allen looked up, she saw that it was the claw of that lizard dragon!
The lizard-like creature swung its claw down, but there was no sense of human flesh beneath its foot. Puzzled, it raised its foot again and found nothing below.
That human had escaped!
“I’m talking about you.”
A human voice spoke behind it. Turning around, it was Ward Jimmy!
In his arms was Dawn Allen, who was quite frightened.
The lizard dragon let out a low roar as it charged at Ward Jimmy. Ward Jimmy sneered. His pitch-black eyes turned golden in an instant. Upon closer inspection, his pupils were no longer human ones—they were slit-like eyes, characteristic only of black magicians and fierce beasts.
“A mere insect like you shouldn’t be so presumptuous!”
Ward Jimmy parted his thin lips slightly. A tremendous psychic pressure surged from his small human body along with his voice, knocking the lizard dragon to the ground.
"You... you’re Lord Tianyao?"
After a long silence, the lizard-man actually spoke human words. Ward Jimmy’s beastly eyes glanced at him indifferently, and the lizard-man trembled with fear.
“My name is not something that a wretched insect like you should dare to call out.”
“It’s my fault. I sensed a scent similar to yours earlier. I never thought it was actually you. I’ve heard that you passed away thousands of years ago. I wonder why you’ve chosen a human as your host this time. Could this be an act of declaring war against our clan?”
The lizard dragon’s eyes were fixed on Ward Jimmy. More precisely, they were fixed on the high elf demon that was temporarily occupying Ward Jimmy’s body.
“Heh. If I wished, your entire race could be destroyed in an instant.”
“In that case, I won’t be a hindrance to you anymore. By the way, among humans, there’s a man named Angelo Churchill who has taken three magical beasts and kept them as his own. Please be careful, my lord. Don’t fall for human tricks, just like that foolish young man.”
“How dare you!” The high elf conjured a ball of fire in his hand and threw it at the lizard dragon. He had intended to give the lizard dragon a lesson, but to his surprise, the lizard dragon dodged the attack by shifting its body out of the way.
“It seems that Lord Tianyao hasn’t been active for thousands of years, so his body isn’t very strong anymore.”
“I appreciate your complete lack of reverence toward me. But sadly, your success has made me unhappy.”
The high elves’ feet struck the ground with force. Before the lizard dragon could react, its body was sent soaring into the sky by the flames that erupted from the ground. Its life ended amidst terrifying screams.
