Chapter 10
HAZEL
Lunch?
I felt I didn’t know Xavier well enough to go out with him.
I wasn’t interested at all.
I shook my head and muttered, "Sorry, I have plans for this afternoon.”
“Can you please spare me a few minutes. Maybe come out of the car and talk?" Xavier seemed to have something to say to me.
He looked so serious.
I would have declined if it had been anyone else, but seeing this man blushing and stumbling in front of me, I found it difficult to reject.
I got out of the car and followed him to a hospital pavilion where I sat, saying, "President, please speak up."
“I heard that you’re divorced now?"
My eyes dilated.
My heart was pierced once more by his words.
I didn't want Tristan to go public with my divorce.
Did Austin made it public already?
Then again, he had to since he was getting married to Sophia soon.
Xavier stared at me as if he was weighing my reaction.
“Miss Garcia, don't get me wrong, I didn't mean anything by it, I just..."
He came to a halt here, and the unnaturalness on his face became even more pronounced, and I found it very cute and asked, "Just what?"
Xavier raised his head and stared at me. "Hazel, I like you."
The suddenness of the confession caused my eyes to widen.
“Hazel, I’m in love with you. I've love you for five years now. I first began to like you when you officially took over the J&G Group, but since you were so young and just starting out, I kept it to myself and told myself that I needed to put in a lot of effort to earn your respect. I finally became successful and established Don Corporate, but since you married Austin, I had to keep my feelings for you to myself.''
“Now that you're divorced, I finally have a chance to be with you. I know this is all so sudden but I don’t want to waste any time.”Xavier said, changing his tone and grabbing my hand.
I was stunned at his remark that he had liked me for five years rather than at the full confession.
I never imagined that someone else had a crush on me, I was too busy loving Austin.
“You said you've loved me for five years?" I murmured.
Xavier nodded. "Well, I can show you my journal if you don't believe me."
He was sincere, and I didn't doubt him because I had just spent ten years loving someone else
“Thank you for loving me.”I said sincerely.
“Are you promising me something?" Xavier appeared to have misinterpreted my gratitude.
"I..."
I was about to explain when he suddenly hugged me and said, "That's great, finally you’ll be mine.”
My whole body stiffened as a result of his hug, then the strange discomfort caused my chest to tighten and I felt like throwing up again, so I hurriedly pushed him, "Mr. Gordon, please let go..."
“Austin, isn't that your ex-wife?"?A voice came out abruptly.
I trembled and looked up to see Sophia and Austin standing close by, with Austin staring at me with eerie haunting eyes.
I felt embarrassed and awkward at the time!
It didn't matter who I was with because I was divorced from Austin. However, the man who was holding me was very different from Austin.
Sophia, in particular, was looking at me with mockery in her eyes. She must be thinking that I had fallen for an average looking man.
After my divorce, technically, if I wanted revenge or a comeback, people expected me to find someone who was superior to Austin, someone who could make Austin be on his toes.
Xavier didn’t seem to be that kind of man.
I tried to run away because I was embarrassed, but Xavier grabbed me firmly and wouldn't let go.
“Austin, let's go, don't interrupt your ex-wife’s public display of affection," Sophia said sarcastically again, while I was already so embarrassed that I lowered my head, not daring to look at Austin.
“Let go of her!" The voice above my head made me tremble the next second.
I raised my head and noticed Austin standing in front of me. He was giving Xavier a cold stare.
Sophia who was standing behind Austin had gotten pale.
“What is…” Xavier continued to hold onto me and made an attempt to speak, but Austin pushed him away as soon as he opened his mouth to speak.
“Stay away from her. If not, I’ll ruin you."
I was also pulled away by Austin when he said this.
“Austin..." Sophia muttered.
Austin completely ignored her. Instead, he took my hand and exited the pavilion.
“What are you doing?" I came to my senses and shook him off to stop.
He looked at me. A moment later, he took out a cigarette and lit it. He took a few deep breaths and looked annoyed. "We just got divorced for a few days. Are you really so desperate of a man?" His words were sarcastic and insulting.
My heart ached. Thinking that he was going to marry Sophia, I sneered. "Is that a problem?”
His face darkened again. "If you want to be with a man, find someone who’s responsible. Don’t you know who Mr. Gordon is? He was just released half a month ago because he harassed his female subordinates."
I was shocked. I didn't even have an impression of Xavier. If he hadn't mentioned it earlier, I wouldn't have remembered him. How would I know his past?
At the same time, I felt particularly uncomfortable being held by him.
But even so, I still maintained my last bit of self-esteem right now and replied, "Is that so? I guess everyone already knows how dirty he is. He’s still better than some people who act confused. One minute, they talk about loving their mistress to death and the next, they desperately want to fuck their wife! How shameful.”
“Watch your tongue, Hazel.” Austin said as he dropped his cigarette to the floor and crushed it hard with his foot.
“Your opinion of how I should live is irrelevant, Mr Buford.” I smiled, lightly.
He glared at me.
“Of course, it has nothing to do with me, but every move you make is related to the reputation of J&G Group. Before the J&G Group officially falls under the Ford Group, please pay attention to your words and actions. Don't make the J&G Group worthless. I won't clean up the mess for you at that time."
If my words were harsh, then Austin’s words were vicious.
I felt a pain in my chest. I could no longer speak and turned around. However, not sure if I turned around too quickly or was it because I was just too angry, but I felt a blackness appear in front of my eyes.
Suddenly, Austin grabbed hold of me.
“Hazel, Hazel, what is it?”
