Chapter 5

AUSTIN

I was pissed off.

I genuinely despised Hazel for being so bitch!

For having my grandmother threaten me with disownment if I didn’t marry her.

She had been playing me like a fool.

“Austin, it seems you’ve forgotten what you promised me?! Do you want to be removed from the family’s tree?!” My grandma asked.

I scoffed.”And it seems you’ve forgotten that no one can lead the Ford Group better than me!”

She needed to be aware that she no longer had control over me.

“That’s how it is now? Well, for your information, Sophia will never be a member of the Buford family as long as I’m alive!”

Not wanting to exchange any more words with her, I turned and left.

Julieta stared at Hazel, sadly.

Five years ago, when Hazel turned eighteen, she took over her family’s business and was already getting great suitors.

But she couldn’t care less about that because she only had one person in her heart.

When Hazel was fourteen, she was robbed on the way home from school.

That was just weeks after she lost her parents.

She cried her eyes out at the lost of everything then a young cyclist stopped to comfort her and even took her to his art room.

There, he taught her how to make sculptures.

The boy dropped her off. Hazel had been too swooned by him and she forgot to ask for his name.

But he remained in her heart.

She never forgot about him and constantly searched for him.

So when she turned eighteen and had to face the business world earlier than usual, she was invited to the Buford family’s Manor to attend the Ford Group’s annual celebration.

She had attended the celebration to show her respect to Julieta.

She didn’t expect that the person she had been looking for was Julieta’s grandson, Austin.

Julieta, who was smart sensed Hazel’s affection for Austin and decided to get them engaged, even though she was aware that Austin was dating Sophia at the time.

Hazel didn’t know Austin was in a relationship back then. Austin had been keeping it a secret from the public and from his grandmother, she didn’t know his grandmother already knew.

So when Julieta kept forcing Austin to marry Hazel, he had to tell Hazel about his girlfriend.

Hazel had been disappointed and she didn’t want to be the other woman so she tried to meet up with Sophia and apologize for trying to marry her boyfriend.

But then she caught Sophia kissing another man.

Hazel didn’t know what to do. She wanted to tell Austin about it but she was scared that Austin would be heartbroken.

So she told Julieta instead.

Julieta never liked Sophia and when she found out that Sophia was cheating on her grandson, she felt even more livid.

She met up with Sophia and offered her a huge amount of money to stay away from Austin.

Sophia had accepted without a second thought.

All these made Hazel feel sad for Austin. She felt sad because the woman he loves did not love him back.

So Hazel was determined to give Austin all the love he deserved.

Now, she felt she had made a wrong decision back then, she should have put herself first and leave Austin alone.

HAZEL

“She came back to take Austin away from you. Instead of trying to open his eyes to see her true nature, you want to save her life? Do you think she’ll be grateful to you? Why do you want to die, Hazel?”Julieta asked me.

I sighed.

I couldn’t blame her.

I knew her anger about my decision was valid.

Julieta had cared for me more than anyone for the past five years, even though her main intention for getting me and Austin together was for the benefit of the Ford Group.

“Hazel, you should let that woman die instead. Her illness has nothing to do with you. You do not have to sacrifice your life for anyone. What you need to do is to have a child with Austin as soon as possible to strengthen your marriage.”

I sighed.”Have a child with Austin?”

I wanted to before.

I even got pregnant with his baby but I lost the child.

And now that I was about to die, it was too late to have a baby.

“Didn’t you hear what I said?”Julieta pressed on.

Feeling tensed, I let out.”I want a divorce.”

She stared at me, looking stunned.

I guess my plan was stupid.

My plan of giving my heart to Sophia in exchange of Austin being kind to me.

I don’t think he’d ever be kind to me. He might not even be able to pretend.

There was no need to delude myself and I shouldn’t spend the last three months of my life putting up with his hatred for me.
