Chapter 2 Chapter Two

Chapter Two

I am Keira Archibald. I have never been one to shy away from battle. My enemies can bear me witness~ Keira Archibald.

Keira

“What? I’m actually an Alpha heir?” I whispered to myself, going back into the house and shutting the door behind me. My head felt woozy from all the news I’d been hit with that day. I craved for a good sleep.

I frowned, pondering if it was a trap. I wasn’t foolish enough to just accept every news as it was. Well, except for Aiden’s of course. The thought of him made my skin crawl. My parents were dead, so who could’ve sent the letter? Only a member of Archibald's family could send a letter with such code words. Besides, the crest matched the wrist charm I’d always worn ever since I was a child. My gaze noticed the large hand space behind the letter. I subconsciously placed my hand on it, and my body jolted.

The air concentrated around me, rushing so fast that I could barely stand.

“Ahhhh!” I screamed, feeling as though I’d been dipped into hot oil. What was happening?

The charm on my wrist glowed brightly, and a guttural roar erupted from me, shaking the foundation of the house. My breaths came out in forceful pants, my legs firmly planted on the ground. All the anger…the rage, came back to me.

“Aiden! How dare you? And how dare that two-faced bitch do this to me?” I growled, a raw sound that could’ve shocked me if the changes in my body weren't happening. Claws emerged in the place where my fingernails had been.

“And that bastard son of theirs. How dare he splash water on me after I tried to rescue him from those people?!”

The claws soon retracted, and my vision was back to normal. I wasn’t dumb enough not to know what just happened. I was now an Alpha.

Fuck.

The door pushed open, drawing my attention to the figure who walked in with long strides as he always did. His eyes met mine from across the room, and I noticed the dull look he gave me. I wondered how I hadn’t seen it in the past.

“Keira,” he called out in a fake voice, approaching me. I inched away from his outstretched arms and leveled him with a glare.

“I went to look for you, but I was told you had left,” he said, and I waited for him to say more. After all, I’d saved his son—the child I had no idea was his, the child I’d come to regard as my son even though he was adopted—from the men who’d invaded last night. And they shot me. Aiden didn’t even ask me about the gunshot. I doubted if he knew. Even if he did, he didn’t care.

“I’m so stressed, Keira,” he went on in that sweet tone of his that always pullled at my heartstrings in the past.

“Hmm,” I mumbled, fighting a mental battle not to spew profanities at him. Look at him, standing there and lying straight to my face, without an iota of respect for me.

“I can’t even reach for my wolf,” he said, reaching out for me again. I let him hold my hands, praying to the goddess that I wouldn’t snap and push his head beneath my boots. It was a strong urge. I’d always been called Luna, but it was in name. Until now, I didn’t feel any different from other werewolves. But at the moment, I knew I could engage Aiden in a physical brawl, and I’d kill the motherfucker, Alpha or not. I relished in my newfound strength.

“…what do you think?” He asked, and I arched my brow.

“Sorry, I zoned out. What did you say?” I questioned.

“Can Rena stay with us for a few days? My wolf keeps shutting down and fallling asleep. The doctor advised that I get careful and thorough care from a healer, and Rena is skilled enough.” He said.

They weren’t even bothering to hide it anymore. Of course, they wouldn’t. They were fated mates after all.

Fated mates. It tasted bitter on my tongue.

My response was a detached “sure,” and I turned away coldly, avoiding his enthused kiss. He could keep his fake attitude, I had no care for it.

“I also think you should get enough rest. Why don’t you Iet me handle the pack matters while you do that?” I asked sweetly.

His face brightened up. “Oh, thank you. So considerate.” He praised, but I could hear the mockery beneath his words, beneath his voice. I’d been so foolish in the past.

Never. Again.

I leaned back against the soft backseat of the car, glancing at the blurred scenery as we drove past. Aiden wasn’t aware of my movement. Early that morning, I’d spied on him sharing an intimate kiss with Rena.

The letter sent to me last night contained something else; a short paragraph that I currently reread.

“I know you have your doubts. This is so sudden. But the wolf will always wait for you in Mooncrest.” It read.

That was the code word for ‘Come home, it’s urgent.’

After diligent research, and careful thoughts, I knew who sent the letter.

The car drove through Mooncrest’s large gates, and my jaw hung open at its splendor. It was five times the size of Stormfang.

“We are here,” the driver said. I’d given him enough money not to divulge my location. I stood in place, watching as he drove away.

“For a moment, I thought you would ignore my letter,” a masculine voice said, and I turned around to the speaker. He was tall, broad-shouldered, with a confident look and stance. I was a little bit intimidated until he smiled brightly. “I am Damien. But you can call me Uncle Damien.” His smile widened. I didn’t return the gesture.

He led me into a part of a large castle, and again, I was stunned at the beauty surrounding Mooncrest.

“Marienne, she’s here,” he called out, as he led me into the living room. A beautiful woman stood close to a tall guy that bore resemblance to Damien. I couldn’t bring myself to address him as Uncle. Not yet.

“I would leave you all to get acquainted,” my uncle said, disappearing through another room. The revelation he’d given me on our way down here still left me in shock. I was the Alpha’s daughter, the only one left with the real Alpha bloodline.

“One hundred million,” the woman before me said, and I blinked in surprise.

“For what?”

They both looked at me coldly, but I wasn’t fazed.

“Give up the inheritance. I can assure you that I’ll let you keep your title as the Alpha’s daughter,” she said, and I let my eyes settle on her black wavy hair.

“No.” I said. “I don’t accept your offer.”

“You–” she blanched, just as footfalls echoed in the hallway and some men rushed into the room, led by a stern-looking man dressed in black. Beta squad?

The man went to Marienne and whispered something to her that prompted her and her son to look at me in shock.

One of the men stepped forward. “Are you Keira?” He asked in a gruff voice. I nodded.

“The Alpha King has invited you for dinner,” he informed me, handing a beautiful card to me. I studied the card that held only a name and a number.

Kaelan.

The men left before I could say a word, and I smiled at Marienne and her son—Lucian.

“It seems I have

a date,” I mocked.

“You may–”

“Funny. I don’t recall asking for your permission.” I said, and anger fleeted across her pretty features.
