Chapter 4 Chapter Four

Fire and ice. Equally terrifying in their own rights. But what if I was both? What if I was fire, and I was ice?~ Keira Archibald.

Keira

“What else?” I repeated.

Her question reminded me of something. Everything was packed, my boxes and everything I ever owned, except for two documents. I waved the servants away and headed towards the study, where I was sure Aiden must’ve hidden them.

The study was the only place that didn’t smell of cinnamon. Aiden always claimed it made him dizzy while working. I got to work, copying the contents of every file—important or not—in the study. I frowned. The ones I was looking for weren’t there. I slammed file after file, with buried anger.

“Everything!” I slammed a file. “Every work!” Another slam. “All done by me. Me! And what do I get?” I laughed in self-scorn. “Aiden, you bastard!” I cursed, wishing he was there to hear me. I’d built all these, layer by layer, yet the most important documents I needed were gone. He’d hidden them. Rage bubbled in my chest.

Someone knocked at the door—three impatient raps. I tilted my head in that direction. “Come in!” I called out.

The door opened and a boy walked in, breathing heavily.

“I apologize for my rude intrusion, Luna. Your attention is needed urgently,” he placed the documents he was holding on the table on my command. “These documents need to be signed. They were sent from higher packs, and should be done today.” He informed me.

I shrugged nonchalantly. “Have you informed the Alpha?” I asked, knowing what the answer would be.

“The Alpha said he’s busy, and instructed that the documents be brought to you instead.” He said with a bow.

I almost burst into laughter. Busy, my pretty ass. These agreements were with packs far above Aiden’s reach. I could still recall how hard I’d slaved in order to get their attention. I should be happy that the documents had finally arrived. Instead, I felt an intense revulsion. Since I was the master planner behind the scene, I knew if I didn’t sign the documents, the agreement would fall through, and it’d affect Stormfang badly.

“You may leave.” I ordered. He left after a quick bow. I didn’t take a second glance at the documents before leaving the room.

The documents should sign themselves, or better still Mr conceited-piece-of-shit-Aiden could sign them himself. It’d always been like that. I did all the work, scouted for beneficial agreements, while he took all the credits. I’d been so pathetic. Eww.

My next stop was at a shopping mall.

“Welcome, ma’am.” A sales attendant approached me as I walked into the boutique, a smile on her face. “I’ll be your attendant throughout your shopping,” she informed me, and contacting her infectious carefree attitude, I gave her a smile of my own.

“I’ll like a pretty dress, suitable for a dinner date, please.” I said.

“Absolutely. This way, please.” She gestured at another corner of the boutique and I followed her lead.

I sampled three dresses before choosing one that stood out. It was a blue long body-hugging dress that belled down to my ankle, and a slit by the side that rose up to my knees. The arms were adorned with black colored silk, giving off the vibes of an aristocrat. The front showed just a little bit of cleavage, enough to tempt but not much to reveal. A sharp ache shot through my heart as my reflection gazed back at me. My straight shoulder-length red hair didn’t contrast badly with the dress as I thought it would.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d dressed up for myself, the last time I’d felt so pretty.

“I’m done with this bullshit, Aiden.” I promised myself.

The sales attendant nodded in approval as I stepped out of the dressing room. “That dress was made with you in mind. It suits you perfectly.” She gushed.

All sales attendants were always sweet-tongued, but I could tell that she meant every bit of the compliment.

“Thank you. Wrap it up for me. I’d also need a gift.”

I headed to the checkout desk moments later, a big bag containing the dress, and a smaller bag that held a pretty diamond ring suitable for a male, and a leather belt. I wasn’t so good at selecting gifts, so I hoped the Alpha King wouldn’t mind. On the contrary, fuck his reaction. I’d taken my time to select a gift for him. That was as far as my propriety went.

The lady at the checkout desk gave me a curt polite nod.

“Ma’am, your items have been paid for.” She informed me, and I stared at her blankly.

“I haven’t paid for them,” I insisted, after finding my voice.

“And we were instructed to give you this,” she handed a cute but expensive looking accessories box to me.

“But–”

“We meet again, Miss Keira,” a voice interrupted me before I could ask who paid for my items and sent the box. The speaker turned out to be the stern-looking man that’d led the Beta squad back at Mooncrest pack. He was dressed in black just like the other time.

“The Alpha King is waiting,” he said.

I opened my mouth to protest that I hadn’t even dressed up yet, but seeing his firm countenance, I decided against it, and followed him out of the mall, and to where a sleek limousine was waiting.

“Wow,” I breathed.

I felt out of place at the four or five star restaurant where Alpha Kaelan was already waiting. He was seated at the far end, the moonlight from outside the window outlining his features and calm, distant presence. I sucked in a breath when I was finally within his reach.

He was, holy goddess… He was fine as hell. Even while seated, I could tell he was tall, taller than my 5’9 height.

“It’s good to see you, Miss Keira,” he greeted me politely. I didn’t know what I’d been expecting. Perhaps an arrogant, head-stuck-up-in-his-ass young man. But the man staring at me with dazzling features wasn’t it.

“Your Beta team helped me out at Mooncrest,” I said instead. “Thank you.”

He waved his hand casually, as I took a seat. “It’s a repayment for your father’s help.” He even gave me a little smile that pinched at somewhere in my heart.

I was stunned, and getting more confused than ever. I just woke up and I was suddenly an Alpha’s daughter? There were many questions I ache

d to ask him.

“So, why did–”

“Form a marriage bond with me.” He said, and my eyes went wide as saucers.
