Chapter 2 Chapter Two

Chapter Two

Mirah

I tried to steady my breathing, as I leaned on the passenger seat. But that didn't help either.

I couldn't think. Couldn't breathe.

He hadn't spoken a word, since we set out. Since I made the decision to get into the car of a total stranger.

But everything had been spiraling out of my control, all day. I cleared my throat, and turned to the side.

“What's your name?” I wasn't sure if I heard it right. But the little butterflies in my stomach confirmed it.

“Mirah.” I said. “Mirabella, my name's Mirabella.” As I stole a brief glance at him, I couldn't help but admire how good looking he was. And it wasn't in that young and fresh kind of way.

This man had a rough and dangerous tone to his demeanor. His sharp and well chiseled jawline was set in a prim frown.

“Done looking?” His voice made me jump. I swallowed, and balled my hands into fists.

“I'm sorry.” I whispered, and I didn't know why.

Silence reigned for a little while, and then he broke it again. “You're human.” It wasn't a question. But his words were weird enough.

Was I supposed to be an immortal?

“I don't understand.” I said softly. He roamed his eyes over me. On each part of my body his gaze touched, it left a scorched feel in its wake.

“Did you escape from your wedding?” His voice turned low, lower than before. And I felt the temperature in the room drop down a few degrees.

For whatever reason, I felt he wasn't pleased about it. And it made my heart race. I suddenly felt conscious of my wedding dress, as I stared down at my clasped hands.

“Yes.” I muttered.

His eyes darkened, as he leaned in towards me. His cold hand encircled my neck, forcing my gaze to meet his.

“Has he ever touched you?” He asked.

I found myself nodding in negative. His breath fanned my face, and my breath turned irregular.

He studied me for a while, before he nodded. “Good. No one can touch you, or hurt you. Only I can.”

I couldn't tell if it was a vow, but whatever it was, gave me a vague hint of what I was getting myself. Getting? Scratch that. Of what I'd gotten myself into.

I nodded again. That should make it the twentieth time. “Yes, only you can.”

As he moved away, and I leaned back on the seat, I realized that I didn't even know his name. And I hadn't asked…

⚓️⚓️⚓️

Zeke

“You went out?” His voice rang out, as I walked into the hall. Sharp and crisp, as always. I didn't react as I approached him further.

“Hello, Father.” I simply said, and took my seat beside him.

“What do you think you're doing, Zeke?” My father, King Elliot hissed, as he rammed his hand on the throne's armrest.

“Depends on what you're talking about, Father.” I ignored the woman who was smiling beside him. And her son.

“You brought someone over?” He continued.

I was already irritated at this point. And all I wanted to do was get away, and go to my chambers. But I couldn't. Unfortunately, this was one of the many nights we had a meeting.

“The royal ball is in a few days, Ezekiel! What the hell do you-” He was saying, when Alex cut him off.

“Isn't that a scent of a human I perceive on you, brother?” He asked, with that signature annoying smile on his face.

My gaze darkened, and I hissed, “And why do you care?”

“You'd get her out of here, this instant, Zeke! What the hell are you thinking? You know very well that a human isn't allowed in our kingdom. I can overlook you visiting them, but bringing one over?” My father's eyes narrowed, but that only served to amuse his wife.

I rose abruptly to my feet. They could continue the meeting without me, for all I cared.

“You can go on.” I simply said, and made my way towards the door.

“Be careful, Zeke. A human hasn't been here in centuries. I wonder how the others are reacting towards your little…human friend.” Alex called out, just as I turned the doorknob and walked out.

Servants and guards loitered around, preparing for the royal ball, which was due in a few days time.

And as much as I hated to admit it, Alex was right.

A human hadn't been seen here in hundreds of years. I doubled speed, as I teleported to the room I'd kept her.

But I was late.

“Get the hell away from her!” I barked, gripping his neck, before the words were out. His fangs were almost out when I walked in. I couldn't afford to scare her, before she even knew who I was.

But this bastard was about helping me do so.

It was Kelvin, Alex's friend. And I was moments away from sinking my claws into his neck. He might have seen the fury on my face, because he let go of the pale faced lady in front of him.

“I'm sorry, Prince-” He stuttered, and I pushed him away.

“Get the fuck out of here.” I ordered.

She was frozen still, her hair a mess around her body.

“Look at me, you're safe now.” I said softly.

She didn't move. I bent, and helped her up. She was still dressed in her wedding dress, and I couldn't trust the servants to dress her up. I wasn't going to risk coming back to meet her body, drained of blood to the last drop.

Her sensuous eyes which had attracted me to her, were now widened with fear. I swallowed. I'd never been good at comforting anyone.

I doubted if I had feelings left in me. The only reason I was holding her in my arms right now, was because I had an inkling we were fated.

The way my heart had stirred back in the car confirmed it. And it'd been lots of centuries since I had such a reaction.

“Where's this place?” Her teeth clattered against each other.
