Chapter 3 3

Dylan's Point Of View

I watched her as she exited my office to her room, bringing my stare to the palm of my hand.

'Damn the mate bond,' I cursed at the tingles, which Gunter unsurprisingly enjoyed.

"What now Alpha?" Travis called out to me.

"We find Cora's child." I filled him and the pack of the information I received from Valerie through the mind link as everyone began the search for that child.

"I have appointed Brielle to Aderyn, debrief her of everything, and no one should say more than they should. I don't want her to know about us just yet." I pointed out, and with that, Travis left the room. My eyes roamed down to Aderyn's information that was sent to me.

“Parents: Both dead.”

My heart couldn't help but feel sorry for her. No, not the mate bond this time; it was just something I could relate to that. I shook my mind off it and did some paperwork in the office throughout the night.

"Alpha, breakfast is ready," Brielle alerted me through the mind link as I donned my shirt, my hair still damp from the morning shower. I walked down the stairs and my eyes dropped on her.

"Good morning, Alpha," Morgan and Brielle greeted with a nod as Travis came from behind, and I settled into my chair. Still, Aderyn Hale sat, giving undivided attention to her breakfast, almost pretending she couldn't see me. "And Good morning to you," I said, a little bit of anger rising in my tone.

"And you too," She said, not even sparing a look.

"Did you receive the contract sent to you?" I asked, my eyes still fixed on her.

"Yup." She gulped down her tea, finally looking up at me, about to say something, when a protruding noise made its way in with the alarming sound of her heels on the floor.

"Dylan!" She yelled loud enough to deafen someone.

Selena. I sighed, noticing the look everyone threw me at the table. She hopped like a monkey, standing next to my seat, just about to bring her lips down to mine when I tilted my head, letting her lips touch my cheekbone.

Goddess, her lips were so moist which made me gag mentally. I scanned her from her head down to her toes. She was wearing a silky shirt that hung loosely above her belly button with a short silver line skirt glued to her thigh, revealing everything it needed to. It was obvious she just arrived from her trip to her grandparents pack.

"I missed you, darling." She held me tightly, snuggling as I withdrew her hands from my shirt. I can't believe her. Selena didn't seem to know when to stop.

Don't get me wrong, Selena and I never. Like never dated. But I couldn't deny that she was pretty attractive. Okay, very attractive and I may have on some occasions had some intimate moments with her, very intimate. I guess I could see why she had it all confused.

"Did you miss me?" She brought my attention to her.

"Selena, can't you see we are having breakfast? Get a seat or get lost"

A chuckle escaped Travis's lips, which did not go unnoticed by Selena. At that, she narrowed her eyes to see everyone at the table; her eyes darkened when she noticed an unfamiliar person in our midst. I guess what tipped her off was the fact that it was a female.

"And who the hell is this bitch?"

"Selena, sit or leave," I commanded, trying my best not to lose control. Who the hell did she think she was calling my mate— I paused on my words. Calling my guest a BITCH.

"That's my seat " Selena barked, giving Aderyn a tap on her arm.

"I didn't see a name on it," Aderyn replied effortlessly.

"Get off"

"Make me." Aderyn picked up her tea again to sip, with everyone watching this drama.

Selena was not one to get humiliated like this. Part of me knew it was my fault for making her think she could do as a chosen mate or supposed future Luna.

“Of course, it's your fault,” Gunter shot back without any mercy. “Don't you let that worthless skunk hurt our mate,”

"I said Get Up," Selena yelled, putting a hand on the table while using the other to pick up a cup of tea and shoving it to Aderyn's face. Before I could stand up, Aderyn instantly used the fork she had been using and poked it down on Selena's hand that was on the table.

Everywhere went silent, only a painful wail escaped from Selena, who quickly removed the fork, bringing her hands up to Aderyn when I grabbed it, holding her neck with my other hand.

"How DARE you?" I growled, and Selena could feel the anger vibrating through my whole body.

"But, she's a human...that thing dared to hit me." I tightened my hold on her, making it hard for her to breathe.

"Dylan. Alpha, please" She whimpered. I could feel my blood boil, my eyes turning dark. I pushed away Morgan, who tried holding onto me.

"Never in your entire existence try such again." My voice was deep and husky, sending my message loud and clear to her.

Slowly, I let her go, watching her disgustingly gasp for air. My eyes quickly became normal as I turned around to see everyone staring at me.

I caught a glimpse of Aderyn's intense sky-blue eyes but couldn't quite read her expression, and that was when it hit me that I couldn't read her.

I couldn't read Aderyn Hale's thoughts.

How was this possible? What on earth was she?

I left the room, mind-linking Morgan to call in the head witch of the pack.

I needed to speak with Celeste. Something was wrong.
