Chapter 4 4
Aderyn's Point Of View
Hmmmm. I inhaled slowly the freshly made cup of tea that Brielle had made.
"Gosh, it tastes nice, Brielle" I sipped more, watching the blushy Brielle.
It has been weeks now since my arrival and the awkward scene that took place at breakfast. So far, so good. Everyone has been pretty nice to me, and by everyone, I mean the whole community.
I paused confused at what to call the extremely large population living in the mansion and some in other houses close to each other.
The other day, Brielle accompanied me around the House for a stroll, and she explained something I didn't quite get. She said that they were like a big family living together and they were taken care of by no other than Dylan.
They all see me as a part of their family, which I couldn't deny. It felt nice to be part of something, to belong somewhere. But the last few days have been weird. I acted as if it was nothing, but questions had begun steering up inside of me.
Why were they so secluded? They all hardly go out into town except for groceries and stuffs like that.
Why did I feel like they were all hiding something, definitely something they didn't want me to find out about?
What was up with the strange noises I always heard around the mansion? Like there were wild animals close by? It could be possible considering the houses were located in the middle of the woods.
And lastly, what was up with Dylan and the big bad title given to him? Alpha.
“Well, he's kinda a king to them,” My inner thought again defended.
I rolled my eyes, ignoring my messed-up thoughts. I was fucked up even down to making conversations with myself.
“Sometimes I don't get you,” I said, mentally shushing myself.
“What did you mean? I am you and you.. me,” It reminded me. Annoying. I continued.
Why did their houses have to reside beside a damn forest?
I mean, it was almost impossible for someone to find it. I sighed again at more questions that kept on popping out.
Yet I was beginning to trust them all.
"Brielle, Travis is looking for you." Morgan walked in, smiling at me as I returned his smile warmly, sending a wink at Brielle.
Well, it happened that Brielle and Travis had something going on between them. She said they are somewhat destined for each other and so on.
I felt happy for them cause they looked really cute together and were a good couple. Morgan, on the other told me of his girlfriend, who is studying for now.
I got up, holding my cup of tea, making my way to my room when I moved past Dylan's office. The door was slightly opened which gave me access to see into the room. There he was.
“God's perfect creation,” I gotta admit, Dylan was quite handsome, sorry...extremely handsome. He was sitting on his office chair having a serious meeting with three men and a woman. They didn't quite seem like they were talking about work.
Their voices were low. I didn't know what had happened, but I found myself not being being to take my eyes off Dylan Black, especially when he sat there, effortlessly handsome and wearing a black collar shirt, a strand of hair dangling loosely above his eyebrow.
Weirdly, I wanted so badly to pull back the hair, rummaging my fingers through his soft black hair before I could sink in any deeper. I felt Dylan's stare boring through my face.
Immediately, I jerked on my feet and hurried towards my room.
“What the hell is wrong with me?” I hope he didn't notice me.
Dylan's Point Of View
"How can that be possible?" I screamed frustratingly, keeping my tone in check. "She's a human, and I can't even read her." The more I thought about it, the more it made me madder.
"Calm down Alpha," Celeste said. "I've watched her from afar, she has a strong aura, which I suspect is because she is our Luna Queen. And so your mate. That's the only explanation for that." For the umpteenth time, Celeste explained again as she did for the past weeks.
She was always there for me and my pack. She didn't have to, but she did anyway. Ever since I saved her years ago, she's been a kind of motherly figure for the pack using her magic to help protect the pack any way she could, even to the point of conjuring a barrier spell and a cloaking spell, thereby making anyone unwanted visitor, be it a human, a vampire or a wolf were unable to see and find our territory.
Yes, Celeste was a witch who had experienced dark times, starting from the loss of her only son. I looked up at her only to find the warmth of her hand comforting my arm.
I couldn't quite figure out how she always made me feel reassured and calm; maybe it was the effect of her magic. My bones stiffened and I noticed the figure that stood at the door.
Aderyn? My eyes widened. She kept on staring, unaware of my eyes.
She looked rather gorgeous. She was wearing a long baby pink blouse that ran down to her hands, and her hair snaked up to the other side of her neck, giving me a glimpse of her soft skin and exposing a marking on the spot on her neck.
I could feel Gunter growing impatient, wanting to grab hold of her and make her his...mine. I guess she realized I spotted her as she hastily made her way to her room.
"Alpha," Pablo called after many attempts.
"Yes Pablo, let's just stick with the plans," I said. "Any news yet on Cora's child?"
"Not yet, Alpha," Williams spoke up. He was our pack's general. He, Pablo, John, and Celeste were the only people I trusted my life with after Travis and Morgan, of course.
"I sent some men to assist Valerie with the search, and some witches from the quarters went as well; so far, nothing much has been found, just the town where Cora had given birth. Valerie is unto the midwife who helped her deliver; maybe we can find out if the child is a boy or a girl," John said.
As I looked at him, he was my mentor and taught me everything I knew after my parent's death. He was Brielle's father and the late Alpha's adviser, my father.
"Okay, keep me posted on the matter. I need to prepare for the Council meeting," I dismissed them all, walking out to my room for a shower. I needed it badly, maybe I could let out this steam and suffocation I felt deep within me.
I moved into the shower, letting the water drain right from my head to my toes. I still couldn't stop my thoughts from thinking of Aderyn. I hated it, I hated this pull I felt towards her.
“She can't be mine,” I said, staring at nothingness. “For her sake, after all is settled... She'll have to leave. She's human, after all, and I'm nothing more than a cursed hybrid Alpha King with an abandoned fate,”
