Chapter 5 No saving

Third Person POV

Lucien sat silently in the living room when the door flew open, making him grip the glass in his hand.

“So, this is what you’re doing?” an old man shouted. “You have the nerve to say you’re busy?! Sitting here like a god damn prince?”

A vase shattered as his cane struck the table, but Lucien didn't care. He didn't even move or even flinch.

“Calm down, my love,” a younger woman soothed, touching his shoulder. “Maybe Lucien truly has something important to do.”

The old man grabbed Lucien by the collar. “Without me, you’re nothing but an insect! Do you think you're who you are without me? How dare you!!”

Lucien laughed as he pushed him away. “Are you sure about that? Maybe it's the other way around.”

Rage burned in the old man’s eyes. He swung his fist and tried to punch Lucien.

“You’re the bitch,” Lucien said calmly, catching it mid-air. “I’m your son, remember?”

“Davros,” the woman pleaded. “We have a party to attend, maybe he really has something to do. Honey, please, we need to go. You promise to go shopping with me, right.”

“You’d better close the deal tonight,” Davros warned, storming out. “Or you’ll regret ever being born.”

Lucien is standing outside a restaurant, trying to light his cigarette, when his car alarm suddenly goes off, making him frown and turn to look at his car behind him.

“Oops,” a woman’s voice said. “How have you been?” she added, making Lucien frown.

“Who are you?” he asked.

“Guess,” she said, and irritation washed over Lucien’s face immediately.

“Or I could just shoot you now,” he said, pulling his gun from his waist.

“Chill,” the woman said, stepping toward him and making her face visible. “Hi, did you miss me?" she said.

“Well, I guess you’re really a weirdo, stalker too, huh?” Lucien said as soon as he recognized the woman’s face.

“So, you remember me. I felt so special now, how have you been?” she asked.

“Yeah, I don’t easily forget stupid people with weird names, too. Martell, right?” Lucien said, making ‘Martell’ laugh as he walked toward the restaurant, passing by her.

“So, what are you doing here? Should I assume that you are here for me?” she asked.

“That’s none of your business,” he said and walked away from her.

Maelis felt annoyed when Lucien ignored her. She knew this mission would be hard, but she didn’t expect that even getting close to him would be difficult.

“Whatever,” she said, rolling her eyes at him as he entered the restaurant. Her phone suddenly rang. “Hello? Who's this?” she answered, but the other line stayed quiet, making her frown.

She was about to speak again when a gunshot echoed from nearby, making her turn toward the direction she thought it came from. She immediately went in that direction. Not far away, in the parking lot, a group of men was standing around someone lying on the ground.

She couldn’t help but walk toward them, hiding behind the parked cars.

“Drake?” she said as she recognized the man kneeling on the ground. She tried to take a step closer but stop whent one of the man turn look around, as if checking the place.

“Give it to us, then maybe—just maybe,” one man said, pointing a gun at the right temple of the kneeling man. “We’ll let you go,” he continued.

“I don’t fucking know what you’re talking about,” Drake said as he tried to stand, but the men behind him quickly subdued him using a taser.

“Arghh!” he screamed as his body fell to the ground, shaking from the electric shock.

“Uhhh…okay, thanks anyway,” the man holding the gun said, turning his back on poor Drake on the floor. “Let’s go, boys,” he added, and the other men quickly nodded and followed him.

Maelis was about to move to approach Drake as he tried to push himself up when, suddenly, continuous gunshots echoed. She watched Drake’s body take all the bullets coming from the man’s gun as he threw up blood and collapsed to the ground.

“Dre—” she tried to shout, almost running to his side, when a hand from behind covered her mouth and an arm wrapped around her waist, stopping her from exposing herself to the group of men.

“If you don’t want to end up like your friend, shut your mouth,” a man’s voice said near her ear as he held her tightly. When she tried to look, her eyes immediately widened.

‘It’s Lucien Allard.’

Lucien let go of his grip as soon as the men were no longer visible to their sight.

Maelis's legs are trembling as she takes each step closer to Dreak's body on the floor. Her hands were shaking as she slumped on the cold concrete and touched him as she tried to shake his body.

“D-dreak, wake up”. She said in a trembling voice as her eyes started to fill up.

“Mae—maelis…” Dreak said as blood ran out of his mouth.

“I’ll---I’ll call Richard, just hang it there,” she said and tried to find her phone, when Dreak chuckled in pain and grunted. “Just don’t do anything, we’ll fix this.” She said.

“There is no saving for—for me, Mae,” he said and smiled as his eyes slowly closed,” Dreak said and tried to lift his hand, bloody, just enough to reach Maelis face.

“Don’t fucking say that!” She shouted at him as she tried to touch his body, trying to stop the blood. “You know, Richard, he's good at these things. He’s smart, remember?” she added as tear feel on her cheek.

Dreak laughed in pain, “He’s s-smart, but not god.” He spoke.

“Dreak, please.” She pleaded and looked behind her, “Please help us, call someone!” she shouted at Lucien.

“No, it’s okay. It’s time for me to be with…” he caught “my parents,” he added a wipe, Maelis tear, and pulled her face close to her. “Ple—please run, while…while you still have time.”
