Chapter 1

"Bang bang bang! Renn! Open the door!"

Uncle Carter's voice came from outside the door. I was about to open it when I suddenly heard a voice: "Master! Don't open the door!"

I was stunned.

Dafu, who was lying next to the sofa, raised his head and looked at me anxiously with his amber eyes.

"Dafu...is that you speaking?"

Dafu nodded vigorously, but didn't open his mouth. "Yes! I can communicate with you telepathically now!"

My breath caught in my throat for a second.

"Master, ignore him!" Dafu cried anxiously, "He, Jessica, and Brad are here to force you to sell the house!"

Dafu continued, "Brad heard from the inside story that this area will be developed into a super commercial district, and property prices and land will increase tenfold! So they've got bad intentions towards you!"

Jessica, my fiancée, Uncle Carter's daughter, and I grew up together since high school.

But a week ago, she held Brad's hand and said she wanted to break up with me.

She said she only realized she truly loved Brad before her marriage.

"What nonsense are you talking about?" I shook my head. "Uncle Carter and his family have been taking care of me since I was in high school..."

"Take care of them?!" Dafu growled. "They swindled all of your parents' insurance money!"

I opened my mouth.

Indeed, Carter has come to borrow money every now and then over the years, and I have always given it to him without hesitation.

It was because my parents took great care of me after they died, treating me like family and warming my heart.

That's why I can forgive Jessica for cheating on me with that scoundrel Brad, rather than seek revenge.

" Master! I'm a reborn dog! I know everything that's about to happen!" A strange light shone in Dafu's eyes. "I'm transferring my memories of what I've experienced to you!"

A torrent of memories crashed into my brain—

I didn't agree to let them buy the house at a low price. A month later, the extreme cold arrived, and I kindly took them in, but I broke their legs and threw them out the door, where they froze to death in minus eighty degrees Celsius.

Dafu rushed out to save me, but Brad slashed him down with a knife, skinned him, and ate him.

My memory stopped when Dafu died, and my hands began to tremble.

It wasn't fear, it was anger.

Those warm memories were all lies.

"Thirty days later, extreme cold will arrive, with temperatures dropping to minus eighty degrees Celsius."

I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, they were filled with determination.

"Since they want the house, I'll sell it to them."

"Woof?!"

Dafu looked anxious.

"Don't rush." I took out the Glock 19 my father had left me, checked the magazine—fifteen rounds full—and chambered a round. "Didn't you say there would be an apocalypse in thirty days? Then I'll make them pay a fortune for this ice coffin."

"I'll make them pay. But before that, I need money to cope with the extreme cold, lots and lots of money."

I adjusted my expression to make myself look haggard and humble, and then opened the door.

Outside the door, Uncle Carter, Aunt Carter, Jessica, and Brad stood in a row.

"Rayne!" Carter opened his arms wide. "You look terrible, your uncle is very worried about you—"

"Uncle, Auntie," I said, head bowed, my voice weary, "what brings you here?"

"I heard you've lost your job again?" Carter patted me on the shoulder and walked into the living room. "Jobs are hard to find these days."

Jessica looked at me cautiously: "Rayne, I know you're sad after we broke up, but I hope you can understand..."

"I understand." I lowered my head, gripping the Glock behind me tightly. "It's because I wasn't good enough."

A hint of smugness flashed in Jessica's eyes: "Rayne, don't say that..."

"Master, I want to bite this bitch to death." Dafu lay at my feet, growling in his throat.

"No rush," I replied in my mind.

Carter glanced around the living room, a greedy glint in his eyes: "Raine, you live alone in such a big house, how much does it cost you every month? Why don't you just sell it?"

I looked up, feigning shock: "Selling the house? This is what my parents left me..."

"It's precisely because it was left by your parents that your uncle can't bear to see you suffer! Rent, utilities, and taxes all cost money; how can a young person like you afford that?" Carter said earnestly.

"But..." I pretended to be very hesitant.

"No buts!" Brad suddenly stood up, pulled out a folding knife, and flicked the blade away. "Rayne, I'm telling you this now. You're selling this house, whether you like it or not."

Jessica gasped, her eyes filled with excitement.

"Brad, don't be impulsive—" Carter frowned.

"What's the rush?" Brad pointed the knife at me. "A piece of trash should know what it means to be trash. Fifty thousand dollars, transfer the house to Uncle Carter. It's our good intention, understand?"

I lowered my head, my shoulders trembling.

Carter and Brad exchanged a glance, a smug look flashing in their eyes.

Jessica walked over: "Rayne, listen to your parents. Fifty thousand dollars is really enough for you to live very well in the city..."

"Is it enough for me to die?"

I suddenly looked up and smiled.

No wonder I was unwilling to sell in my previous life; 50,000 yuan was practically a beggar's gift!

I pulled my right hand out from behind my back, the dark muzzle of the gun pointed at Brad's forehead.

"Click." The hammer snapped open.

"You...you fucking..." Brad's face turned ashen, and the folding knife clattered to the ground.

"Fifty thousand?" I slowly stood up. "Do you think I'm an idiot?"

Carter jumped to his feet: "Rayne! Calm down! Let's talk this out!"

"Easy to say?" I turned my gun towards Carter. "I can sell you this house. But the price is up to me."

How many do you want?

"Two million," I said coldly. "US dollars, cash, full payment, all at once."

"Two million?!" Brad exclaimed. "Are you fucking insane?!"

"Shut up." I pointed the gun at him, finger on the trigger. "I'll count to three. One..."

"Wait! Two million is too much! We can't afford it—"

"two……"

"Fine! We agree!" Carter gritted his teeth.

"Six hours," Carter stared at me. "Give us six hours to raise the money. You prepare the contract, and we'll settle the deal in cash."

"Okay. Come here in six hours with two million in cash. If it's even a penny less, the deal is off."

Brad picked up the knife, turned back to glare at me as he walked to the door: "Rayne, you just wait, you bastard!"

"I'll be waiting."

The door closed. I sat back on the sofa, placed the Glock on the coffee table, my hands trembling.

"Master, you're so damn handsome!" Dafu excitedly pounced on my lap.

Will they bring the money?

"Yes, they will. Since Brad got inside information that property prices in this area will increase tenfold, and they think they can make eight million at normal market prices, why would they pass up this opportunity?"

I walked to the window. "However," I said, "if the extreme cold really comes, in thirty days, this house will just be an icehouse."

I turned around, my eyes suddenly turning icy cold. "In these thirty days, I will use the Carter family's two million to build an underground fortress that even a nuclear bomb cannot breach."

I picked up my phone and searched for abandoned air-raid shelters on the outskirts of the city.
