Chapter 6 The Caption

“Sweetie! Wake up!” Desmond tapped on Isla’s shoulder. She groaned and shifted a little but didn’t wake up. She was in her dreamland, happily playing with her mother. She still remembered the days he ran away from the house to meet with her mother. They visited a local amusement park. Claire kept laughing with her, giggling with her while they rode every single roller coaster.

She still remembered how hollow Claire's eyes were. When asked, Claire had told Isla that she kept missing her with all her heart, yet Desmond was adamant that Claire must not meet with Isla. Ilsa held her mother tightly and cried and cried.

But soon Claire cheered up by giving in to every demand of Isla. They ate waffles, hot dogs, ice cream and pizza, lots of pizza. Every time they drank cola, they had a competition of who could burp the loudest. Claire would burp the loudest, making Isla laugh and laugh. Isla was happiest that day.

Claire then took her to a motel to rest. As Claire didn’t have a lot of money, she had to choose that motel, but Isla was happy. She didn’t mind the shabby state of the room. She was with her mother, she was happy with her mother. She wanted nothing else. Her mother left her in the room to rest and went to get one more blanket from the receptionist.

She had no idea how much time had passed, but when she opened her eyes, police cars were parked outside the room, flashing blue and red lights. Isla was extremely groggy after eating so much and enjoying her day with her mother. Running and jumping had left her tired. She heard her father shouting and crying and then pulling her into his arms.

He was extremely angry at both Isla and Claire. He was angry at Isla for running away, but she was still not sure why Desmond was angry at Claire that day. The next day, when Isla woke up, she shouted at Desmond for making Claire run away again. She shouted at him for calling the police, but Desmond didn’t say anything. It was then that Desmond hired bodyguards and kept Isla under strict supervision.

“Isla! Isla! Sweetie, wake up!” She heard her mother’s voice and smiled.

“Five more minutes, Mom!” mumbled Isla.

“Get up, girl!” Suddenly, Claire’s voice changed into Desmond’s. Isla groaned loudly and realised that she was in the plane, sleeping next to her father. She opened her eyes and first saw Desmond’s face. “Oh, you deep sleeper! Will you wake up, or do you want them to lock us inside the plane and leave us here alone?” he snapped.

“Okay, okay, chill! I am up!” shouted Isla and threw the blanket away. It was then she noticed that a blanket had covered her up. Her eyes fell on her father’s jacket too. That broke her brain. She was extremely confused. “If Dad hates me, why is he so concerned about me? Is this his way of buttering me up to accept his marriage? No, no, I am a rock, I am not going to melt! He didn’t let me change my clothes and now he thinks covering me with a blanket will melt my heart. Never! Desmond Harrington, you sent my mother away; I will never forgive you!” Isla gritted her teeth.

But her empathetic bones made her pick up the blanket as well as her father’s jacket, and she placed everything back on her seat. She could have handed the jacket back to Desmond, but her mom-loving brain stopped her from doing that. She always cursed the judge who gave Desmond her custody every day. This was one of those moments; she was muttering curses under her breath at that judge. She was sure that her father had paid the judge to give that judgment. And that made her anger climb a notch up.

Desmond rolled his eyes and grabbed his jacket. He looked into Isla’s eyes and snatched her phone away from her. “What are you doing?” snapped Isla.

“I will give you the phone after we reach Henderson Mansion. Think of running away, and you will not be able to call for help. So, think twice before running away. You know no one here, you are familiar with no one here. No one is coming to help you. Only me! So, it will be beneficial if you just keep your mouth shut and follow me. If not, I will take one of your selfies from your phone and then post it on your social media. And you know what kind of caption I will post. Also, I will choose the worst selfie you have taken. I will edit it so badly that your friends will cringe for the rest of their lives,” warned Desmond.

“You!!!” shouted Isla. She glanced at everyone walking down the aisle with their luggage and lowered her voice. “You… wouldn’t dare!” she whispered.

“Oh! I love my Dad! I love to kiss him good morning every day. I love it when he feeds me every meal. I love when he tucks me in every night. I am my Daddy’s little angel. I love him the most, and he loves me the most!” smiled Desmond.

Isla looked at him with a twist on her face. The right side of her face was so twisted that it made her right eye smaller than her left eye. Her brain had almost stopped working. “What are you talking about?”

“Caption! This will be the caption of your post from your phone, from your social media, and I will tag myself! What say?” threatened Desmond with a devilish smile on his face.

Isla clenched her jaw and squinted her eyes. With utmost disgust on her face, she growled, “You won’t! You wouldn’t dare!”

“Try me, child!” laughed Desmond. Isla flared her nose and snapped at him, “Fine! fine! I won’t try to run. But I am never going to accept your marriage. She is nothing to me.”

“Fine! But you are one of the bridesmaids!” laughed Desmond.

“Excuse me!” shouted Isla, shocked and angry.

“Welcome to Amberwood Shores, Isla Rose Harrington,” mocked Desmond.

“I will burn down every single wood in these shores!” Isla gritted her teeth.
