Chapter 2 A Useless Alpha
Stella
‘This border of Dark Moon pack is literally going to kill me.’ I link to my Alpha, Darien, as I’m running back to the packhouse in my chocolate brown wolf form. As Gamma of the Silver Moon Pack protection is kind of my thing, but the amount of times this border has been breached by weak rogues in a matter of just a week is absurd. It’s like they have absolutely no fucking security over there and maybe they don’t because I’ve never come across one goddamn guard, ever, even after almost dying several times due to breaches at their border.
‘Alpha Matthew is here today for the ball with his chosen mate, I’ll have to discuss this issue with him’ Darien links back.
I don’t respond, honestly, whatever it’s not going to change anything that Alpha is fucking useless. If it was up to me we’d just take the pack over and teach them a lesson, but Darien insists on being “politically correct” or whatever he calls it. I guess I am unusually violent for a female. It’s not unheard of, but female wolves don’t usually climb the ranks as Gamma, but I’m different of course. Dropped off at the border as a baby and taken in by the Alpha and his family, such a cliche, but that’s how it happened. Darien and I were basically siblings growing up and with no Gamma heir from his dad’s old Gamma, I was the next choice. Even though I’m a great fighter in my own right, I’m sure a lot of the decision was because I can read minds. Yep, mind reading orphan such a hot commodity. It’s not every thought from every person, it’s only shifters and it’s only if they’re thinking about me or someone I am bound to like my Alpha and Beta or my mate. Not that I have one. Normally at 18 a wolf would feel a thread around their heart and at the other end their mate. Like two live wires, when they connect, voila the mate bond is formed. I never got that. Guess you can only get one gift at a time and I got partial mind reading, thanks Moon Goddess a choice would have been nice.
As I approach the pack house I quickly shift and pull the shirt Cole gave me over my head. I have to stop shredding my clothes. These rogue attacks are doing a number on my wardrobe, it’s wildly inconvenient.
“I’m going to kill that bitch for trying to take my man away from me, she thinks she can run from me” thinks a very angry voice.
Oh fuck what bitch is she talking about? Must be my bitch because why else would I be able to hear that? But I’m not bound to any females? Besides my adopted mother, but there is no way it’s her, she’d be think screaming at me if she was actively being chased right now. I follow the stream of consciousness down an eerily empty hallway in the depths of the packhouse when I see her, a short little thing, couldn’t be more than 5’2” with honey blonde hair and big deep blue eyes and I immediately feel a protective bond snap into place. Fuck that’s Darien’s Luna and someone is trying to kill her right under our nose. I’m already covered in rogue blood in nothing, but a tshirt, what’s some more blood?
I take in the tall pale blonde with ice blue eyes chasing her. Is that Alpha Matthew’s chosen mate? I don't have time to ponder that any further, I grab her by the wrist, twisting the hand that holds the silver coated knife. I contort her arm at a disgustingly unnatural angle and stab her with her own knife. She is dead and now I have even more blood on me, great Darien’s going to be so pissed the ball is in 30 minutes.
“Jeezee Luna already trying to get killed and you haven’t even announced your mating yet, I’m Stella by the way your Gamma” I said to the frazzled girl.
“Luna? I’m not your Luna, I what? I’m just Victoria? The sister to the Dark Moon Packs alpha? And-and- you just killed my brother’s mate.”
I rolled my eyes, I sincerely do not give a shit about killing her brother's mate. I respond “What do you mean– you haven’t met Darien yet have you?”
“No”
Shit shit shit, I have to get Victoria to Darien ASAP he’s going to lose his mind. Ha can’t wait to mock him for finding his mate before him. Never living that one down. I sigh and look down at the body like it’s the most inconvenient part of my day, which it honestly is.
“Alright Luna Victoria, let’s get a move on, wouldn’t want to keep your Alpha waiting.” I winked.
