Chapter 5 Chapter 5

“Ouch, this … this … ,” he whispered. “I can't believe this… this is…..”

“Good?” Sable offered.

Gabriel blinked and swallowed hard, all at the same time, he looked at her and something softened in his eyes. “I won't lie to you, I have not tasted something like this in three thousand years,” he says quietly. “This tastes like sunshine, like the first day of spring, like ... I don't think I can fully describe.”

He stopped talking and gave a stern look at the pastry in his hand, slowly, his eyes rolled to the platter and finally landed at Sable.

He lowered his spear.

“Can you make me understand?” He said. “You are kind to an enemy who is trying to kill you.”

Sable smiled. “You are not a monster Gabriel, I only noticed that you were hungry.”

That got Gabriel, he looked at her again for a long time before deciding to take another bite and all the angles beside him all began to descend. They all landed softly in the cobblestone and closed their eyes, savoring the taste of something warm and kind.

Vladimir summoned courage to walk up to Sable. He stared at the whole scene in our disbelief.

“How did you do that ?” He asked.

Sable shrugged. “Well, I do not know. All I know is that I fed them”

“I saw that too. You just fed all army of angels and they are not trying to kill us anymore, you are wonderful.” he said.

Sable gave a nod of affirmation. “That's the one thing about pastries. They make people happy.”

Vladimir stared at her and laughed so hard that he leaned against the porch of rail.

The laugh lifted something inside of Sable that she smiled , she felt hopeful and she thought everything was finally okay.

But the universe had another plan, the world went completely DARK before them.

The laugh went in hold, the angels looked up and all their faces went pale. Sable followed their gaze and what she saw made her heart drop into her stomach.

A new figure was descending from the clouds, its wings were black and its eyes were burned with fire. He landed in the middle of the street and the ground cracked beneath his feet.

“Gabriel,” the figure called out. His voice came like thunder. “You have failed your mission.”

Gabriel immediately bowed. “Lucifer, please, I can explain.”

Lucifer gave a wicked smile. “I do not want your explanation, I want the hybrid,” he said .

He looked directly at Sable and his fiery eyes burned into hers.

“You!!!!” He said, forcefully. “You are the reason why my brother failed and the reason why the heaven is divided, and YOU,” he pointed a long clawed finger at her. “You are coming with me,”

Sable's hand began to shake so bad and her heart rate multiplied in a way she didn't expect. She looked at her father, Vladimir and the angels were now cowering behind her.

A thought quickly came to her mind: doing what she knows how to do best. She held up her pastry. “Would you like some scones ?” She asked.

Lucifer looked at her and what she thought she was doing. His eyes flickered with confusion.

“What ?” He said.

“A scone,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “It's warm, fresh and tastes really good. Just give it a try.”

“Is this a joke ?” She demanded.

“No,” Sable said, twerking her lips. “It's breakfast.”

Lucifer narrowed his eyes on her. The cobblestones around him were starting to smoke.

“Is this a joke?” He asked. “Like , you mean to say it is breakfast.”

Sable put down the platter. “It's called MIDNIGHT ROSE made with dark chocolate, cherry and a whisper of moon magic and I will tell you for free that this is the best thing I have ever baked.”

Lucifer tightened his fist. “I am the riker of the underworld and I do not like pastries.”

“You sure about that ? Well, I would suggest you try one.” Sable said.

The question from Sable hung in the air and all the angles behind Sable held their breath. Gabriel, who was holding his half eaten pastry, took two steps backward.

Lucifer's face hardened. “This is so irrelevant.”

“Well, it's a very simple question,” Sable said. “Yes or no ?”

Lucifer went silent for about five minutes, then he slowly replied. “No.”

His response made Sable smile and the nerves to move closer to him. “And how do you know you do not like them ?”

Vladimir grabbed her arm. “Sable, what are you doing?”

“Trust me,” Sable said.

“Ofcourse I do trust you, the only person I do not trust is him.”

That got the attention of Lucifer. His burning eyes swept over him like a cold amusement. “You!!! A vampire. You bonded with a witch, ha ha ha ha. That's modern.”

That hit Sable so hard but she ignored. This time, she was ideal with her game. She held the platter higher. “Just take a bite and nothing much. Then if you do not like it, you can take me.”

Gabriel took a step forward. “No , miss Vance. I would not advise you ….”

“Gabriel,” she said, with her eyes still fixed on Lucifer. “You are three of them already, so do not worry.”

Immediately, bus expression weakened. He stepped back and didn't say anything again.

Lucifer tired his head, because the whole scenario was getting more interesting than he had thought. “So, will you willingly surrender yourself to me if I do not like your pastry?”

“Yes, yes , yes, I will” Sable said , with all manner of excitement.

“And what if I don't get to like it ?” He asked again.

“That shouldn't be a problem,” Sable said p. “We will talk like civilized people.

Lucifer let out a loud rumbling sound that shook the window of the bookstore. “Well, well, well, CIVILIZED. you are standing before the ruler of hell and you are asking him to be civilized.”

“And I would say I am standing before a man who hasn't eaten a good meal in his entire existence,” Sable said. “Here I am, offering one.”

Lucifer slowly reached out and clawed his fingers around the pastry, he brought it to his lips and took a bite from it.

Immediately, the whole world went silent before him.
