Chapter 6

Alice stepped out of the police station, and Samuel's deep, smooth voice called out from behind her, "You sure you don't wanna rethink this?"

Alice stopped in her tracks, glaring at the smirking Samuel. "Seriously, Attorney Harris? Are you that obsessed? Is sex all you ever think about?"

Samuel shrugged, unfazed. "I'm a guy, aren't I? Who wouldn't want it? Especially that night, I thought we had a good vibe."

Unbelievable!

Alice had never met such a brazen man before. How could he say something like that in public?

Watching her storm off, Samuel's eyes twinkled with amusement. She had quite the personality.

Back home, Alice kicked off her shoes and let her bare feet touch the cold floor.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket, the ringtone piercing the quiet room.

Alice sighed, pulling out her phone. The number on the screen made her frown deeply.

She swiped to answer, but before she could speak, Mia's voice came through, "Alice, how's that 100,000 dollars coming along? You only have two days left."

Alice slumped onto the couch, closing her eyes, and asked, "Isn't there still two days left? What's the rush?"

"I'm just reminding you," Mia said, "If you don't come up with 100,000 dollars in two days, you'll have to marry into the Wright family!" Mia paused, her next words dripping with selfishness and greed. "Once you're married into the Wright family, Jasper and I can live the good life too."

Alice let out a bitter laugh and questioned, "The good life? Mom, haven't you heard the saying, 'A married daughter is like water poured out'? If I marry into the Wright family, I'll be one of them. Do you really think the Wright family is that stupid?"

Mia's voice rose in anger. "What do you mean, Alice? Are you getting too big for your britches? I'm telling you, if you don't have that million dollars in two days, I'll drag you to the Wright family myself!"

With that threat, Mia hung up, leaving Alice standing there, phone in hand, her mind in turmoil.

Knowing Mia, she would really do it. For money, she would actually tie her up and send her to the Wright family.

No, she had to come up with a plan, and fast. There was no way she could let Mia succeed.

100,000 dollars was an astronomical amount for her. Given the current situation, earning that much in two days was nearly impossible. She had to find another way to stop Mia from forcing her into marriage.

A fire burned in Alice's chest. She walked to the bed, feeling the cool breeze, and a crazy idea popped into her head.

If Mia were using marriage to threaten her, then she would get married!

Of course, she wouldn't marry into the Wright family. She would choose her own husband.

As long as she got married and had a marriage certificate within two days, Mia couldn't force her into the Wright family.

This idea took root in Alice's mind, growing like wild grass.

She knew it was a crazy decision, so crazy it seemed absurd even to her.

But she couldn't think of any other way to escape Mia's control.

Marrying into the disgusting Wright family was worse than death!

With her decision made, Alice didn't hesitate. She picked up her phone and called her friend Evelyn.

"Allie, I heard you were at the police station tonight. Are you okay?" Evelyn's worried voice came through the line.

"I'm fine. They cleared everything up. It wasn't my fault. Harold, on the other hand, is in trouble for sexual harassment and will probably be in the station for a few days."

Hearing that Alice was okay, Evelyn sighed in relief.

"Next time something like this happens, you have to tell me. Don't go alone. What if you get hurt?"

Alice chuckled and said, "Don't forget, I'm a martial arts champion. Who could hurt me?"

Evelyn nodded in agreement. True, anyone who tried to mess with Alice would end up regretting it.

Alice hesitated for a moment, then spoke seriously. "Evelyn, I need your help."

Evelyn agreed, "Of course, just tell me what you need."

Alice took a deep breath. "I need you to set me up on a blind date. The sooner, the better. Ideally, someone who can get married right away."

There was a three-second silence on the other end, followed by Evelyn's shocked scream. "What? Did I hear that right? You want a blind date? Aren't you the one who always said you'd never get married? Did the police station mess with your head?"

"My head is perfectly clear." Alice lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. "You know my mom is forcing me to marry into the Wright family. I can't come up with 100,000 dollars in two days, so I have to get married before she can force me into it. That way, she can't do anything."

Evelyn was silent for a long time before speaking. "Allie, are you serious? Marriage isn't a game. Marrying someone you don't love could ruin your life."

"Evelyn, I'm very serious. I've made up my mind." Alice's voice was resolute. "I don't have any time left."

Another silence, then Evelyn's resigned and concerned voice. "Alright, I'll help you. But even for a blind date, we need to find someone decent. You're too beautiful to settle."

Alice sighed in relief and said, "Of course. I have high standards."

After hanging up, Alice looked out at the city lights.

She didn't know if this decision was right or wrong, but she knew it was the best way to escape Mia's control.

If she didn't do this, she would be under Mia's thumb for the rest of her life.

Evelyn worked quickly. The next morning, she called Alice, telling her to get ready for a blind date.

And she had lined up three potential matches. Alice couldn't help but give her a thumbs-up for her efficiency.

After breakfast, Alice took a leave from school and began her blind date marathon.

In the café, she had just sat down when she overheard a conversation behind her.

The man said, "Marrying me is fine, but the wedding gift is $100,000, a car, a house, and $5,000 a month. What do you think?"

The man's voice was deep and pleasant. Hearing those conditions, Alice couldn't help but nod. With such clear terms, the success rate of this blind date had to be at least eighty percent.
