Chapter 5
Between the lines, everything was hinting that Evelyn couldn't do anything and how easy her life had been since getting together with Benjamin.
How ridiculous.
During those years when she stayed by Benjamin's side, helping him recover—all the pain and humiliation she endured—could all of that just be brushed aside?
Seeing Evelyn's silence, a flash of cunning crossed Amelia's eyes.
The next second, she opened the car door. "I know you've always been wary of me, but don't worry, Benjamin and I are really going to handle business. If you ask me, you should just go home. You wouldn't be much help there anyway."
She walked straight over and opened the car door next to Evelyn, standing there looking at her with an innocent and harmless expression.
This made Evelyn seem like the one who shouldn't be there at all.
Fine.
If that's how it was, she'd give them space.
Just as Evelyn got out of the car and steadied herself, Amelia suddenly grabbed the car door and fell heavily backward.
This sudden scene caught Evelyn completely off guard.
"You..."
The moment Evelyn started to speak, Amelia's tears began falling like a kite with a broken string.
"Evelyn, what are you doing?"
Hearing this, Evelyn frowned. "What did I do? I..."
"Evelyn! What are you doing!"
Benjamin's furious voice rang out. Immediately after, he rushed to Amelia's side and helped her up from the ground.
Amelia leaned limply against Benjamin's chest, saying pitifully, "It's okay, Benjamin. I know Evelyn doesn't like me. It's my fault. I shouldn't have come. I shouldn't exist in this world at all."
As she spoke, she tried to push Benjamin away, but the moment her right hand touched his arm, she suddenly pulled it back, her whole face contorting in pain.
Seeing this, Benjamin immediately asked with concern, "Did you hurt your hand?"
Amelia's face turned pale. Her left hand kept clutching her right wrist as she shook her head firmly. "No, I'm fine, Benjamin. It's my fault for making Evelyn unhappy. It's okay. I'll do my best for the race. Don't worry. I should go now."
With that, she made as if to leave.
"This isn't your problem."
Benjamin pulled Amelia into his arms and looked at Evelyn with a protective stance, his eyes dark and filled with anger.
"Evelyn, not only are you jealous, but now you've hurt someone. Amelia and I are not what you think. This time it's because the company entered a racing competition, and she's representing the company. It's perfectly normal for me to drive her to practice. Can you please stop looking at everything with those dirty eyes of yours and seeing everything as filthy as you are!"
His words struck Evelyn's heart like a thunderbolt.
For Amelia's sake, he really was saying every vicious thing he could to her.
She did know about the racing competition.
Amelia was an excellent race car driver—this was well-known throughout the entire circle.
Choosing her to represent the company in the race—perhaps Benjamin really didn't have any selfish motives.
But so what?
Evelyn said calmly, "Whether there's anything as dirty as I think between you two, only you know in your heart. I'll only say this once: I didn't push her."
Benjamin seemed to laugh in anger. "So you're saying Amelia did it on purpose?"
Evelyn looked directly at him, neither humble nor arrogant, without speaking. The emotion in her eyes was already obvious enough.
She would never admit to something she didn't do, no matter who tried to force her.
Amelia's expression cooled slightly. She lowered her posture at just the right moment and said softly, "Benjamin, just consider it an accident on my part. Please don't fight with Evelyn anymore. I really don't want your relationship to crack because of me."
As she said this, when she looked at Evelyn, her eyes were full of provocation.
Sure enough.
With her misleading words, Benjamin pinned all the blame on Evelyn.
"Evelyn, Amelia has been thinking of you wholeheartedly, and you still treat her like this. You're the most vicious woman I've ever seen. If Amelia wasn't in a hurry to find Evangeline for practice, I definitely wouldn't let what just happened slide."
Evangeline.
This name was not at all unfamiliar to Evelyn either.
Evangeline was a famous race car driver in the racing circuit, with skills at a world-class level.
Amelia really did need Evangeline's guidance.
Because Amelia's opponent was very strong.
Speaking of which, this matter had countless connections to Benjamin as well.
The person most likely to win this race was Benjamin's arch-enemy.
The car accident three years ago that turned Benjamin into a vegetable and almost prevented him from ever waking up happened during a race.
Before that, Benjamin had been a very famous race car driver.
He was young and spirited, and with his talent and hard work, he had consistently held first place in races during those years.
And Samuel Harris was in second place, who had always been beneath Benjamin.
Samuel wasn't satisfied but was firmly suppressed by Benjamin.
After Benjamin's accident, he completely lost his ability to race.
Without his strongest opponent, Samuel naturally became first place.
Because of this, after Benjamin woke up, Samuel repeatedly tried to provoke him, saying Benjamin was a废物 who could never stand up again.
This was also why, during that period, Benjamin had suicidal thoughts several times.
Later, Benjamin emerged from the shadows and recovered to look like a normal person, but because of the trauma from the accident, he developed severe PTSD. Even though Benjamin had undergone treatment and could return to the track and hold the steering wheel, his skills could no longer return to what they once were.
Amelia's appearance let him see hope again, which was why he cared so much.
Evelyn looked at him coldly, her heart growing cold.
Amelia was strong, yes, but compared to Samuel, there was no comparison.
She had to get Evangeline's guidance to have any chance of winning.
But the question was... would Evangeline even show up?
"Alright, Benjamin, I'm really fine. Don't be angry. I believe Evelyn didn't mean it. I've already made an appointment with Evangeline. If I don't go now, it'll be too late."
As a top race car driver, Evangeline rarely appeared before the public with her real face. She always appeared wearing a helmet, and people only knew she was a woman.
For this competition, Amelia had exhausted all her connections and spent a lot of money to contact Evangeline, hoping to get her guidance.
The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous Evelyn found it.
Did Amelia really think Evangeline was coming for her sake?
Benjamin looked at Amelia's wrist, his expression softening slightly. "Is your injury okay?"
Amelia smiled and shook her head. "It's fine."
Hearing this, Benjamin turned his gaze back to Evelyn, his tone growing cold again. "Find your own way home."
With those words, he helped Amelia into the car.
Evelyn stood there, watching this scene coldly, and said softly, "Fine, then you two better... not regret this."
