Chapter 7
As Evelyn's close friend for many years, how could Scarlett not see through the mask of strength to all the sadness hidden underneath?
She sighed, her eyes filled with heartache.
"Alright! Let's stop thinking about all this. Let's be happy - my treat for dinner! Come on, let's go!"
Having a friend by her side was what Evelyn felt most grateful for at this moment.
Meanwhile.
Benjamin had already driven to the western suburbs racing track.
After getting out of the car, he first took Amelia to the medical room, saying he needed to treat her injury. In reality, when the doctor examined her, he only said it was a slight sprain, nothing serious.
But Amelia kept complaining about the pain, so they had no choice but to apply medicine and wrap it with a bandage.
While she practiced, Benjamin sat nearby, handling company business and occasionally looking up at her.
After two consecutive practice runs, Amelia's performance was poor. She even crashed directly into the barriers several times.
Watching this, Benjamin couldn't help but frown.
Forget about whether Amelia had any chance of beating Samuel - at this rate, she was definitely going to get hurt if she kept practicing.
So Benjamin took the initiative to stop the practice.
When Amelia got out of the car, her face looked terrible, pale as a sheet.
Facing Benjamin, she lowered her head, her fingers nervously twisting her sleeves.
"Benjamin, I... today it's probably because my wrist is injured and I'm not in good shape. Just let me rest a bit, then I'll practice again. I definitely won't make such basic mistakes again."
The implication was that it was because of that push from Evelyn that injured her hand, which led to the current situation.
Benjamin didn't say much about it.
"Take a break. You're not in good shape right now. If you keep practicing, it won't do any good."
Amelia bit her lip and nodded. "Then I'll rest a bit. When Evangeline gets here, I'll practice slowly under her guidance."
At this point, she suddenly seemed confused.
"That's strange. It's already the agreed time. Why hasn't she shown up yet?"
After saying this, Amelia took out her phone and called an unfamiliar number.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.
Just as she was spacing out, a message popped up.
[Ms. Taylor. Evangeline contacted me half an hour ago and declined your invitation for coaching.]
Amelia hung up and opened the chat.
The person who sent her the message was a racing track owner. She had spent considerable favors and money through him to contact Evangeline in the first place, and he had always been the go-between.
He wouldn't lie, and there was no reason to.
Amelia's heart sank, and she immediately called him.
As soon as he picked up, she asked, "Why?"
The track owner sighed. "I'm not entirely sure about the details, but... Ms. Taylor, did you offend Evangeline somehow?"
Amelia was confused. "I don't even know her. How could I have offended her?"
"Then I don't know either." The track owner said helplessly. "She asked me to pass along a message to you and Mr. White."
He paused for a long time, seemingly hesitating, before finally speaking with difficulty.
"She said she will never teach you, because you and Mr. White are both terrible people who don't deserve it."
Amelia had the call on speaker, so Benjamin, standing next to her, naturally heard everything clearly. His expression darkened, but strangely, he felt somewhat frustrated.
That was many years ago, before he had become a vegetable from the car accident, and before he had lost his racing abilities.
He had made a name for himself at a young age. With his outstanding talent and hard work, no one in the racing world could match him.
As long as he was there, the spotlight on the track would always belong to him alone. With him around, Samuel couldn't get even a glance.
He had participated in races big and small, never losing once.
But at that Silverlight City Racing Championship, a girl appeared and broke his winning streak.
The girl wore a helmet and drove a modified 2012 Japanese GTR. Her extreme speed and almost crazy cornering caused an explosion of excitement when she appeared.
That race was an absolute crushing victory for her.
And Benjamin tasted defeat for the first time.
Surprisingly, he didn't feel any resentment but was completely convinced.
The only thing was that she had kept her helmet on from the moment she appeared, so no one saw her face.
After the race ended, she left, and Benjamin didn't even get a chance to say a word to her.
It was only later that he learned from the organizers that the girl's name was Evangeline, a famous international racer with world-class abilities. But she never appeared in the public eye, and the organizers only had her contact information.
For a long time after that, Benjamin participated in many races but never saw her again.
Until a race four years ago, when Evangeline appeared again and won the championship in another crushing victory.
This time, Benjamin didn't want to leave any regrets, so he took the initiative.
"Hello."
Hearing his voice, the girl in front of him stopped organizing her racing suit and turned to look at him.
She still wore her helmet, sky blue with some cute doodles on it, as a child had drawn them.
"Can I help you?"
This was the first time Benjamin heard her speak.
Her voice was clear and smooth, like a gently flowing stream, bringing a refreshing coolness on this hot summer day.
"Can I add you as a contact?"
Evangeline stared at him for a long time, as if trying to figure out if he was a bad person.
Seeing this, Benjamin stated his purpose directly. "You're really good. I've always wanted to have a proper race with you. I'm asking for your contact information to see if we could arrange a race someday. No bad intentions."
After a moment, Evangeline nodded slightly and took out her phone from her pocket. Her slender, delicate hands made Benjamin momentarily wonder - could these hands really grip a steering wheel?
Coming back to his senses, she had already opened her QR code and held her phone in front of Benjamin.
Benjamin took out his phone, scanned it, and sent a friend request. Only after seeing Evangeline accept it did he relax.
"I wonder when you're usually available?"
Evangeline had already turned back to continue packing her bag. Hearing his question, she only casually replied, "Not sure."
Benjamin wanted to say more, but saw Evangeline already shouldering her bag and leaving.
He was about to follow, but someone called out to him, forcing him to stop.
After that, he never saw Evangeline again.
For five whole years, she seemed to completely disappear from the racing world. She never participated in any more races, vanishing without a trace.
Benjamin had her on WhatsApp, but the many messages he sent her never got a reply.
Whether it was to make up for that regret from years ago or for some other reason, he really did want to see Evangeline again.
