Chapter 1

Amelia's POV

I woke up from the sound of my phone ringing on the bed counter. I almost didn't pick it up, as my head was killing me.

I absolutely had too much alcohol the night before. I couldn't even remember how and when I went home, but as my phone rang for the third time, I finally pulled myself together and reached out for it.

"Hallo?" I mumbled into the phone as I dropped back down on the bed, while I covered my face with my arm.

"Hey babe, I just called to see how it was going with the plans for the interview. Since it's already on Monday you meet with our coach about the manager job, I believe it would be a great idea to review it, don't you think?" My boyfriend Hugo spoke, or maybe I should refer to him as my former boyfriend.

"What did you say?"

"Are you not awake yet? I know I canceled our date last night, but it shouldn't mean you forget all about the interview this Monday," he stated amused.

I knitted my eyebrows while I wondered why he decided to call me, after what happened the day before.

His carelessness made my anger slowly intensify until I finally snapped.

"Are you fucking serious right now, Hugo?" I shot, as Hugo stayed quiet for a minute before he spoke again.

"What do you mean?" He asked, as I sat up angrily, while my hold on my phone increased.

"Like you don't know! I saw you, Hugo, yesterday when you told me you were too busy to meet me, you were with another woman, just admit it!" I growled furiously.

"Come on, that was just business related..." Hugo started to excuse as I fumed.

"Oh, I didn't know, having your tongue buried down someone else's throat could be business-related!" I shot, as he clearly seemed shocked that I had found it out.

"We're over, Hugo, I'm not gonna waste my time on a cheating asshole like you!" I clarified as I heard a loud scoff noise.

"Fine, I didn't even like you that much anyway, but are you really sure you wanna do this now? You won't be able to become manager of the club if you do this, without me, you have nothing to show for," He scoffed, as I started wondering why I ever liked such an asshole to begin with.

He might have been a great support system, but to take the honors for my hard work was just low.

"I don't even wanna be part of your disgusting club anyway, I'll find another and much better team than yours, and I'll make sure they beat you and your pathetic team!" I yelled at him, as a small chuckle came from the other end of the line.

"Well, good luck with that, you wouldn't even have been considered as a manager if it wasn't for me!" He shot.

"Just wait and see!" I sneered before I hung up.

"What the hell did I ever see in you!" I thought to myself.

I was not gonna let him ruin my dream, even if it meant I would have to prove to everyone, that I could be successful without his help.

I was still pretty riled up when I suddenly felt a slight movement beside me, so I turned my head to the side, where my gaze met with these big green eyes, messy dark hair, and a muscular built body of the man lying naked next to me, only covered with a sheet and nothing else, leaving me completely dumbfounded.

"That was some argument you had there," he stated as he was resting his face on his hand while lying on his side.

I couldn't hide how startled I was by this man's presence, so a small scream managed to escape my mouth while I tried jumping up, resulting in me, falling out of the bed and down to the floor.

"Ouch!" I groaned while grabbing the sheet before pulling myself up.

"You're all right? I hope you didn't hurt yourself?" He spoke, though he seemed more amused than worried about my epic fail.

"I'm fine, but what are you doing here?" I blurted out, as he raised his right eyebrow.

"Uhm, the last time I checked this was kind of my apartment, so believe I have the right to," he stated as I looked around the unfamiliar room and realized he was right, this was indeed not my home, which was really embarrassing, to say the least.

"I-I knew that! What I meant was, that you at least could've said something, so I was aware I wasn't here by myself. I was actually having a private conversation," I argued, as I tried hiding the embarrassing truth.

"Well, I didn't believe it was the best timing, and I thought it would be hard not to notice someone as good-looking as me, lying here by your side," he grinned, pointing at himself, as I sighed at his smug attitude which annoyed the hell out of me.

"Right, Narcissus, you seem rather full of yourself, but to make one thing clear, once I leave, there will be nothing between us, do you understand?" I started shortly as I began looking for my clothes.

"Why? Is there something wrong with me? Is it because you don't like my face, or is it something else?" He asked. It surprised me that he actually seemed serious about it, but I was sure he was just playing around. So, I decided wouldn't want to entertain his ego, and instead, I continued to pick up my clothes, before heading for the bathroom.

When I stepped back into the bedroom, he had gotten up and was leaning against the doorframe only in his boxers.

"You know, if you're hungry, I could make you some breakfast, and maybe we could..." The guy started, as he leaned closer to me, but I managed to avoid his advances and move past him, which made him look at me questioningly.

"I'm good," I spoke, as I stepped backward towards the door. Getting out of that place as quickly as possible was my goal, and it couldn't go fast enough.

"So, is that a no for breakfast too?" He asked, as my mouth turned into a thin line.

"I'm kinda busy today, so I'll just find my way out now," I replied, before I walked out of his bedroom, closed the door, and left.

I felt somewhat bad for treating him like that, but that night had been a mistake, not that I even remembered much of it or even his name, I had clearly been too drunk to do so.

"He probably doesn't care about what I said anyway. I'm sure he does this every weekend, so he will surely find a new flirt in no time," I told myself, trying to clear my conscience before I stepped into my own apartment.

I let out a small sigh as I sat down on the couch and picked up my computer.

The first thing that popped up on my screen, was the Vanguard Strikers FC's official website, which I still had on an open browser, from when I had searched through it the day prior, before everything had happened.

I had actually looked forward to working there, but as my now ex-boyfriend, Hugo King was playing for their team, as the goalkeeper, I couldn't do it.

Then a picture of his team suddenly showed up on the screen, and I felt all my buried emotions starting to whirl up once again like they had done when I had seen Hugo with that other woman.

I had not been able to confront him when it happened, instead, I had chosen to bury myself in misery and alcohol, but as I remembered what he had said earlier that morning, I reminded myself he didn't deserve my tears.

"Stupid Hugo, and his stupid face, he thinks he is so great, but I'll show him!" I hissed, as I dried the tears away from my cheeks before I went job hunting on the internet.

There had to be some club that required a new team manager, right? So, I started searching for hiring positions online, and after a bit of research, I fell over the perfect opportunity: "Serious and committed team manager wanted for a club in the National League." Briefly weave in the relationship between Evelyn and Nathan here, consider mentioning Evelyn's plan to tell her father about their relationship.
