Chapter 2

Amelia's POV

"Done!" I stated, feeling pretty satisfied with myself, as I in the heat of the moment, managed to submit my resume to the club.

I hadn't even taken my time to properly review the details of the club I had just decided to send the application to, and when I was done, I had just closed the screen without giving it another thought.

Instead, my mind was occupied by what had happened the day before;

[Flashback]

"Wow, does Hugo really live here?" my friend Lilli asked as she pulled up in front of one of the city's most expensive neighborhoods, with their luxury apartments, leaving most by-passers in awe and envy.

"He does, it's a little flashy, but it has a pretty amazing view from the balcony and a great security system which I know Hugo appreciates, so that's what's important," I replied, as I looked at the building that I have visited several times before.

"But if he is home how do you expect to get in?" She asked, as I smiled.

"Hugo has given me a spare key, so I'll just place the gift on his bed, and then leave again, it's a quick in and out," I replied as I stepped out of the car.

"Fine, you are a really great girlfriend, even after he canceled your date on your anniversary no less," she pointed out.

"He is a busy man, and I can accept that, 'cause that is what I signed up for when I decided to date a football player, and as soon as I start working for the club we will be able to see each other all the time, so it doesn't matter to me," I added.

"Okay girl, then hurry!" She grinned, before I closed the car door and walked to the gate, opened the door and headed into the elevator, which took me to the 3rd floor where his apartment was.

But as I stepped out of the elevator my eyes immediately widened, as I at the end of the hall saw Hugo with some other woman. She was leaning against the wall as he was kissing her.

I had no idea what to do or say, so instead I ended up running back into the elevator and pressing the button several times as tears pooled up in my eyes and my breath became staggered.

[End of Flashback]

I decided to jump into the bath and wash off the past night's mistakes, though I didn't really remember anything, which was really embarrassing.

I remembered going to the bar and getting some drinks with Lilli after what had happened, and then I guess I got a little too drunk 'cause after that I was completely blank.

After the bath, I just watched a movie and spent the rest of the day on my couch, forgetting all about Hugo's betrayal, the man whose name I didn't remember and also the resume I sent to a club I hadn't even bothered to check up on.

The realization first hit, when I, the following day, received an email, revealing the name of the club that I had submitted my resume to.

They apparently wanted me to come in for a job interview the following day, so I couldn't help but take notice of the club name, which was mentioned several times through the email.

"Apex United Soccer Club?"

I didn't know much about them, though I did hear they had moved up to the National league recently, but besides from that I had no idea who they were.

I decided it would be best if I did a little more digging, before the interview. I started to search for everything on the web there had their name included, but what I found shocked me, or maybe rather what I didn't find.

"No wonder they need a manager so bad! They have no sponsors, no information about their team nor their players… Not even an official website — no, nothing!" I blurred out, horrified.

It was bad because it could only mean one thing; this team was not a well-known team and clearly lacked any real funding.

Once again, I felt like being at a loss, as I buried my face in my hands.

"How is it possible to be so unlucky!" I scoffed, but I quickly pulled myself together.

I wasn't ready to give up yet, so I took another look at the team's latest gaming scores, which weren't half bad.

They had actually managed to get to the National League, so that had to mean they had a pretty decent team of players, right?

Besides their skills, I knew that dedication and commitment was crucial if they wanted to be a Successful Club in the National league, especially against teams like Vanguard Strikers FC, which despite their lack of advance last season which were due to issues with players, I knew they would surely be head on this season.

I started to doubt their dedication, when I found out, they had missed an important match. Could it be, that they weren't ready to give it their all? And where would that put me?

Perhaps this wasn't the right choice after all. I was not planning to throw away my dignity just like that for a team who didn't give a shit about punctuality, but did I have any choice? How should I possibly be able to find another team manager position on such short notice?

"Maybe, I should just forget about it, I'm clearly way over my head here," I sighed as there at the same moment was a text that ticked in on my phone.

The display showed a text from Hugo.

Hugo: You know, you can still change your mind, Amelia…

Amelia: Why? Are you scared that you will actually lose?

Hugo: No, I just don't wanna see you ruin your career before it even begun. I admit you have talent, my team can actually get you somewhere, you just have to stop your pettiness and move on, or else it will only end badly for you.

I fumed as I read the text, how could he act like I was the one in the wrong? He was the one who cheated, and suddenly, he acted like I was being unreasonable and mad for no reason!

Amelia: you know what? I've actually already got an offer for a manager job for another team in the National League, so you better just prepare yourself to lose the next season, Bye!

As I had sent the message, I blocked his number and called the number from the email I had received from the Apex United Soccer Club.

"Hello, assistant coach, Charles Jones speaking!" I heard the voice speak up from the other end of the phone.

"Hello, Charles, this is Amelia Anderson. I'm calling about the job interview for the team manager position, which is scheduled for tomorrow. I just wanted to ask what time you need me to be there?" I spoke, with determination in my voice.
