Chapter 6

Mason suddenly lashed out, pointing straight at Allegra, who had secretly returned to the country.

Bernard was caught off guard and instinctively denied, "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

"At a time like this, you still try to hide things from me? Do you really think I'm senile?"

Mason was furious.

He had known about Allegra’s return long before this, but he never expected Bernard to pull something so shady right under his nose.

Already displeased with Bernard’s lack of maturity over the broken engagement, Mason now found him even more disappointing.

He warned Bernard, "Remember what I'm telling you. Stop associating with questionable people. You're not young anymore—it's time to grow up."

Bernard's face darkened as he muttered, "I understand, Grandfather."

He and Eugenie walked a step behind Mason.

When given the opportunity, Bernard, with a grim expression, sarcastically asked Eugenie, "So this was your real motive today. Are you happy now? You're just the type of woman who wouldn't let things go."

Eugenie was baffled, feeling he was being irrational again. "What are you talking about?"

"Obviously, about you tattling to my grandfather."

He let out a cold laugh, as if he had seen through Eugenie's intentions for the day. "You weren't satisfied with the drama already created, so you complained to my grandfather about Allegra to get him on your side?"

"You didn't come today for a divorce at all. Your goal was just to bring in my grandfather as your champion against Allegra. How did I almost marry someone like you?"

As he spoke, Bernard looked at Eugenie with particular contempt and disgust.

A sense of indescribable disappointment flashed through his mind.

He had thought Eugenie had some backbone.

Naturally, Eugenie had no idea what Bernard was thinking.

She simply felt that this man had too many assumptions. She calmly said, "Allegra's return is a fact. Are you denying that you went to see her on our engagement day? Since you did it, stop being so insecure and pushing everything onto me."

Bernard felt a sudden tightness in his chest.

When had Eugenie turned into this sharp-tongued, crude woman?

His disappointment turned into irritation at his own misjudgment, and he snapped at Eugenie with growing hostility, "If anything happens to Allegra, you'll regret it for the rest of your life."

Eugenie sighed inwardly, mentally rolling her eyes, not understanding his logic.

Her patience with Bernard was exhausted, and she coldly explained one last time, "I didn't tattle on anyone. If you don't believe me, fine, but stop judging me with your twisted thinking. Don't forget..."

She drew out her words, looking meaningfully at Bernard's lower body. "You still need something from me."

Bernard's reputation was still in her hands.

Bernard's expression was extremely unpleasant. He tightened his jaw, clenched his fists, and took a deep breath.

The shame and anger toward Eugenie nearly boiled over.

After going downstairs, he turned to leave, instructing the staff, "Show our guest out. See Ms. Medici off."

He then cast a cold look at Eugenie and sneered, "Since Ms. Medici doesn't want to be my fiancée, I'm sure she has no interest in lingering here."

"I'm leaving now."

Unexpectedly, a firm voice declared from the side, "Eugenie will stay tonight."

"Mr. Mason Grayson?" Eugenie pursed her lips, wanting to refuse. "I'd rather not stay here tonight."

Mason looked over, his expression brookingno argument, "What, do you have other plans?"

She sighed, feeling transparent in Mason's presence, unable to even fabricate an excuse.

In the end, Mason firmly arranged for both Eugenie and Bernard to enter the same room—one with an ashen face, the other completely silent.

After the door closed, Bernard waited to see Eugenie's delighted expression. "You've achieved your goal," he said.

Instead, Eugenie didn't even glance at him, walking straight past Bernard to take out bedding and make a place on the floor, calmly lying down fully clothed.

"Well played, Eugenie," Bernard said, almost viciously.

He increasingly couldn't understand what this woman wanted!

As for Eugenie, she never once looked at Bernard, refusing to let him disturb her sleep.

She naturally missed seeing Bernard's almost humiliated expression.

Deep into the night, the room was silent except for two faint breathing patterns.

Eugenie had gone to bed early but found herself unable to sleep, aware of the matters weighing on her mind.

She quietly took out her phone's notes app, deciding to keep herself occupied.

Her previous life?

Even she couldn't say clearly whether this was a warning dream from heaven or if she had truly died in the cold seawater.

But just as Mason needed verification, Eugenie was also verifying things.

What she was doing now was meticulously recording everything she could remember that would happen in the future, down to the smallest details.

Perhaps it could help her on this completely different path.

She quietly recalled, "After the engagement party, the Williams family shareholders took advantage to raise funds. Even my grandparents... Half a month later, an obscure foreign stock surged... Plus industry collapses, policy benefit changes..."

Thousands of words, whether useful or not, Eugenie recorded everything.

In her previous life, she had lived in a rush.

Especially after the engagement, it was absolute chaos. Eugenie herself lived in a daze, dealing with both Rhea's targeting during wedding preparations and external attacks on the Williams family. She was constantly on her feet, thinking she wouldn't remember so many details.

Surprisingly, she remembered everything clearly.

She had chosen wrong back then, and this time Eugenie truly no longer loved Bernard.

She could finally see clearly what was happening around her. Eugenie had never felt so clear-headed before.

Finally, she typed a name, but her fingertips hovered over the phone, her heart heavy with deep regret, almost unable to continue writing.

Nicholas Whitaker.
