Chapter 3 Windy Replaces Her Position
Olivia returned to the gynecology clinic to ask about the abortion procedure.
The nurse at the front desk handed her a form and an appointment slip.
She sat down on a chair and filled it out carefully.
When she reached the emergency contact section, she paused for a long time but left it blank.
She felt like such a failure.
When she met Luca, she thought she finally had a home.
But in the end, she was still alone.
And now, even the only little one connected to her by blood was going to be taken away by her own hands.
The abortion was scheduled for next Friday.
As she left the hospital, the sky was dark and gloomy, as if it were about to rain.
Olivia touched her belly.
I'm sorry, baby, she said silently in her heart. You came at the wrong time and picked the wrong dad. Maybe we'll meet again someday.
The next day, Olivia went to work at Vettel Group as usual.
She worked there as Luca's senior executive secretary.
She had asked for this position herself. Of course, it wasn't to keep tabs on her husband; she just wanted to be closer to Luca and prove she wasn't useless.
Over the past two years, her performance in this role had been nearly flawless.
But when she reached her desk, she froze.
Her workspace was cleared out, replaced with someone else's things.
"What's going on?" she asked her assistant.
The assistant looked uneasy. "Olivia, someone new was brought in today to take your spot. I think her name is… Windy? It was the CEO's order."
Olivia felt her blood run cold.
Was he really in such a hurry?
They weren't even divorced yet, and he was already eager to place the woman he loved by his side, not leaving her even the tiniest space to exist.
Damn it!
Fuming, Olivia turned and headed straight to the CEO's office.
She didn't even knock, just pushed the door open.
Inside, Luca was standing by the huge floor-to-ceiling window, with Windy right beside him.
From where Olivia stood, their posture looked way too intimate, as if Windy might lean into his arms any second.
Hearing the door, they both turned around.
When Luca saw her, the smile on his face vanished. "Why didn't you knock before coming in?"
Olivia ignored him and asked directly, "Why was my desk cleared out?"
"It's just a personnel adjustment," Luca said, pausing as he looked at her with an unreadable expression. "You'll be reassigned to a new role."
Olivia felt like her heart was stuffed with ice shards—cold and painful.
She lowered her gaze, her eyes stinging.
"Luca, I've been your secretary for two years without a single mistake. And now, because of Windy, all my hard work means nothing?" She didn't yell; she just asked calmly.
Her calmness made Luca feel oddly uncomfortable and irritated. "I'll explain the reason later," he said, frowning. "But now's not the time."
"Olivia, you've got it wrong…" Windy quickly waved her hands. "I just mentioned yesterday that I wanted to learn something, so Luca got me a job here. I'm sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have said anything." She looked at Luca. "Luca, don't argue with Olivia. If she really doesn't want me here, I won't come. I was just saying it casually anyway…"
"Windy, this has nothing to do with you," Luca said, turning to Olivia with a hint of annoyance in his tone. "Listen, Olivia, I'll give you an explanation. You can't blame Windy. And of course, I'll compensate you. A house, a car, money—name it."
Money again.
In his eyes, everything she'd done, her feelings, her career—it could all be settled with money.
What about the three years she'd given? What about the child she was carrying?
Turns out, when pain reaches its peak, you really stop feeling it.
Olivia looked at the man in front of her and found it utterly ridiculous.
She took a deep breath. "No need."
Luca didn't quite get what she meant.
"I don't need your explanation or your compensation," Olivia said with a bitter laugh. "Because I, Olivia Ross, am officially resigning right now. As of this moment, I'm no longer an employee of Vettel Group."
Luca's eyes narrowed sharply.
He thought she'd throw a fit, argue, or make demands, like she always did when she was upset.
But he never intended for her to leave the company.
"No way! I don't agree!" Luca cut her off. "Your resignation has to go through the company process, and as CEO, I have the right to reject it!"
Olivia smirked coldly. "You set the rules, but I've got my own legs. I'm informing you, not asking. I'll handle the handover in the next couple of days, and that's it." With that, she turned and walked out without hesitation.
Luca stared in the direction she had disappeared, his face dark.
"Luca, you should go check on her. She looks so upset. Even if she might just be trying to get your attention, she's still your wife," Windy said from the side.
Luca lowered his gaze, rubbing the wedding ring on his finger, his expression complicated.
That night, Luca went home.
The living room was empty, no lights, no warmth.
Irritated, he loosened his tie and went upstairs.
Olivia was already asleep, curled up in bed with the blanket only covering her waist.
Luca stood there for a long time before quietly walking over to pull the blanket up over her. "How do you always end up kicking off your covers?"
In her sleep, Olivia shifted slightly, leaning toward the direction of his hand.
Luca looked at her intently, suddenly remembering a time long ago, before she was his wife. She'd been sick with a fever, curled up just like this.
Out of nowhere, Olivia mumbled his name in her sleep and grabbed his hand.
Luca sat down on the edge of the bed, gently brushing the messy hair from her forehead.
His touch was light, but Olivia still woke up and saw Luca in front of her, his hand still near her cheek.
She snapped awake instantly and sat up. "What are you doing here?"
Luca's hand froze mid-air. The wariness in her eyes stung him.
"This is my house. I have every right to be here," Luca said, his tone full of arrogance.
Olivia didn't want to argue with him. "It's late. I need to rest. Please leave."
Her cold attitude completely set Luca off.
He suddenly leaned in, bracing his hands on either side of her, his breath close.
"Olivia, what do you want? You signed the divorce papers, you took the money, and now you're making a fuss about quitting. Does the whole world owe you something?"
Olivia's stomach started churning again; the morning sickness made her feel awful.
"I said, let go of me!" She pushed him hard.
"Answer me!" Luca grabbed her wrists, staring at her intensely. "Olivia, what do you want from me?"
The nausea grew stronger.
Unable to hold it in, Olivia threw up with a loud retch.
Most of it landed right on Luca's expensive suit.
Luca was stunned.
