Chapter 2 UNKNOWN PEOPLE
CHAPTER TWO
UNKNOWN PEOPLE
ZARIAH NIGHTBORNE POV
I was angry, the moment he heard my voice, he turned back in shock, his eyes widened, “Zariah?” He called unsure.
“How dare you!” My voice was laced with disbelief, I trusted him, I loved him but all I was to him was a bargain.
He used me! Just for power. I turned back trying not to stare at him as I controlled my tears, I wasn’t trained this way, not this weak.
“Zariah let me explain.” He came forward, I reached out my hand putting him to a stop, I could feel a surge of force in me.
It was strong but it was weak at the same time, I couldn’t explain it, “Stop!”
I knew he was the one triggering it so I had to stop him, “Stop before I do something I’ll regret.” I cautioned him breathing in as I faced him.
“You can drop the act now, I heard what you said clearly.” He sighed out, his worried eyes gone in seconds as I said that.
He stared at me, “Listen, it wasn’t my fault ok, I need it! I just…” I interrupted him by punching him, enough to make him stagger back in shock.
I point out my hand, “Then let me say this, stay far away from me, not even a inch closer to me or that’ll be the start of our enimity, you know how dangerous I can be.”
I warned, I turned back and signal to Lena for us to leave, I needed somewhere calm and silent to be and not here, I wasn’t interested in anything shopping anymore.
“Zariah…” His voice stopped me, I waited to hear what he has to say but he didn’t say anything which made me glare at him as I left.
I went to the only place I knew I found solace in, as I stopped the motorbike removing my helmet, I walked towards the riverbank.
“Don’t follow me.” I said to Lena, she nodded and walked away from me, she knew I needed the space.
I sat on a rock not far from the river, the tone of birds, the snapping of tress, the rhythm of waters as it flows, I closed my eyes enjoying the feeling.
There’s nothing like love, it was all lies. Men are not to be trusted, they should be betrayed and treated like a weapon.
I loved him, even when father was against it, I chose him because I wanted another life apart from just being the silent killer of the mafia organization.
I couldn’t stop it, my tears slowly flow, streaming down my cheeks with no control, my heart was broken like I had just been shattered into pieces.
No one could ever love me, it was all for power, I buried my head into my laps as I cried, even the strongest ones can break down and hurt.
I heard a snag of tree, as if someone just stepped on a branch of tree which made me look up quickly cleaning my face.
I looked back but no one was there, then I heard it again. I noticed my hearing was now more sharpened so I concluded it must be from another side.
I stood up stretching out my hand into the river, it felt warm and welcoming. I closed my eyes enjoying the feelings but a memory snapped in me.
Just like one of those I saw in the dreams, I gasped opening my eyes sharply as I removed my hands, what’s that?
I heard footsteps behind me and quickly stood up drawing out my sword, Lena was behind me, startled, she stepped back.
“What are you doing?” She frowned, hee eyebrow up like she was surprised, I sighed taking down my gun as I hid it.
I turned back properly, “I thought I said not to follow me.” I ignored her first question, she sat down beside me.
“I thought you might need a company, you can’t stay here all alone.” I knew that also, but I wanted to be just alone before.
“Thanks.” I said slowly, she smiled taking out what she went to buy. Chocolates, junks and some beers.
I took one of it tearing out the nylon, “I really needed this.” I smiled slowly as I ate it a bit.
“You are weird these days Zariah…” She paused trying to see if she should go ahead or just not say anything, I gave her my reassurance.
She continued seeing I wasn’t angry, “You looked as though you are not yourself, you kept zoning out everytime and you act startled as though something is watching you.”
I had no response to that but truly, I’ve been a shadow of myself lately, “I don’t know, maybe growth.” I nudged her.
I wasn’t sure either, was it growth or something more, I wasn’t sure of what to think but I knew there were more coming.
“You know I wouldn’t try to push it. But you’ve started to look pale and not so good, if it was Godfather’s death then you need to cheer up soon.”
“You are still the next leader of the organization.” I nodded, I knew what she was saying quite well. They needed a stable leader.
For some reasons, women are not most allowed to be the next leader but everyone believed since I proofed myself worthy to be one.
“Lena.” I called out, she stared at me as I stared at the silent echoing river. “Did dad ever mention where I’m from to you?” The question caught her off guard.
I knew apart from me, the next person to be close to dad would be her, Lena. But I’ve never seen them talk about anything in front of me.
“Nope, he only said you stared at him so pitifully the day he wanted to adopt you and that was when he knew you were the one.” She laughed awkwardly.
I could tell she was lying, this was the only thing she does when she wasn’t speaking the truth and yes, she did it.
I didn’t push further, “I must have been really pitiful.” I agreed but my thought was far from that. What was the memory from earlier? I have never really remembered anything from my early childhood.
So why does it feel like I have a mother. “Zariah.” She shake me a bit, I was startled. I feigned a smile trying not to let her know.
“I’m sorry, I was just thinking.” I said slowly. She nodded her head and held my hand.
“You don’t have to think about anything, we both know how much godfather cherished you, if nothing, you are his favorite adopted daughter and he took his time by training you himself. He loves you.” She convinced.
But she was right, he did loved me, and that was why I was the closest to him from all the people in the clan but what do they expect.
For a daughter he adopted, of course he’ll want her to be the closest to him. I rolled my eyes at the lousy words she kept saying.
One part was true and the other wasn’t, I knew because I could feel it.
“Do you think you can quickly get a fast food or a pizza around here?” I asked. She took out her phone and stood up trying to get a delivery.
I just stared into thin air, how nice would it be if I could just recover my memory, maybe it’ll clear all the suspicion I have always had.
I have never for once doubted my place in the mansion but now, for once, I really felt like I don’t belong here.
And a part of me is missing but I couldn’t find any clue to it, my memory is the only thing that can do that for me.
I was slowly starting to feel dizzy like I wanted to sleep as I closed my eyes and lie down properly on the floor, resting my head on the rock.
The sound of birds chirping makes it easier for me to fall into a deep sleep, my head cleared of worries. The only place I can sleep with ease.
I yawned stretching my arms as I stood up, my bones cracked, it wasn’t easy sleeping on a rock as I woke up with body pains.
I looked around trying to see if I could find Lena but I couldn’t, just when I wanted to call her, I sight her coming with one box of pizza.
I raised a brow, “Did you go all by yourself to get the pizza?” I asked just when she got closer to me, she shrugged.
“The network here is bad, I don’t think there’s a stable Wi-Fi connection here so I had to go down myself to get it.”
I mouthed a ohh as she placed it on the floor. “Plus, you were deeply asleep and I didn’t want to wake you up so I just let you be.” I nodded my head as I opened the box.
I took one portion of it biting it as I munch on it, “You know just what I needed.”
“I have to leave now Zariah, something happened at home.” She said, I raised my brow in a questioning way.
“That is so fast, do you need me to follow you.” She nodded negatively. “I’ll be fine Zariah, I just needed to solve it and come back quickly okay.” I nodded.
She stood up and started leaving, I stared at her retreating figure as I took another bite of the pizza. Now I’m all alone again.
Just as I took the last portion of pizza, I heard the same twist of tree branch nearby. “Who’s that?” I asked sharply, gelding my gun to shoot anyone if it happens to be an enemy.
A group of five ladies came out, they looked strong and their ey
es cold with no feelings, “Luna, it’s us.” They chorused together.
