Chapter 4 Give You Three Days to Consider

"I'll give you three days to think about it. When you've decided, come find me."

He turned around, one hand in his pocket, and as he passed Ophelia, he leaned in slightly and slipped a piece of paper with a phone number in front of her. "I'll be waiting for your call."

He walked away, leaving Ophelia standing alone outside.

She stood there for a long time, unmoving, the fringes of her cloak fluttering wildly in the wind, until she heard a voice behind her, "Was that William just now?"

Ophelia's back stiffened.

It was Emily.

She quickly pocketed the paper and turned around, looking at Emily calmly.

"If I were you, I wouldn't hang around Ben anymore. If he didn't want me back, I wouldn't be here."

Ophelia frowned slightly. She didn't want to confront Emily, nor did she want Benjamin to think less of her.

"Since you've already moved into the Briarwood Apartments, you should stay away from Ben!"

Ophelia took a deep breath, pushing down her irritation.

When she was kicked out, she was indeed furious, but now, she had figured it out.

Benjamin didn't need her, and she didn't need Benjamin.

In this world, everyone can live without someone else.

There was no need to make things messy.

Ophelia looked at Emily, her eyes losing their cautiousness. "Does Mrs. White know about your grand ambitions?"

Emily's face stiffened for a moment, then she smiled. "Ben will handle it for me."

She glanced sideways and saw Benjamin approaching. She grabbed Ophelia's hand.

Ophelia's heart pounded with alarm.

Before she could pull her hand away, she saw Emily leaning back.

"Ophelia!"

Benjamin rushed over, catching the falling Emily in his arms. "What did you do to Emily? Can't you tolerate her at all? How can you be so selfish, despicable, and hateful?"

His amber eyes blazed with fury, as if he wanted to tear her apart.

His accusations hit her like a slap, making her earrings sway.

Her heart turned cold.

Benjamin didn't care why she was here, didn't care about the humiliation and ridicule she suffered at the party because of him, didn't explain why he publicly humiliated her with Emily...

He didn't even ask for her side of the story before accusing her of foul play...

The man she loved for so many years still didn't trust her.

Ophelia let out a bitter laugh, feeling like she was drowning in sorrow.

In the faint sound of the wind, she heard something break.

That intense love vanished in an instant.

"Apologize to Emily!"

She gathered her emotions, her demeanor more dignified than usual. "I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?"

Emily clung to Benjamin's arm, pleading for Ophelia. "Ben, don't be mad at Ophelia. It's all my fault..."

Seeing Benjamin's rising anger, Ophelia lost her patience. "Emily, do you dare to admit what you've done?"

Meeting Ophelia's gaze, Emily spoke pitifully, "Ms. Taylor, I know it's my fault. I came to see you today to make things easier for Ben. I want to get along peacefully with you."

Getting along peacefully by making a high-profile appearance at this event?

Forcing Ophelia to move to Briarwood Apartments?

Ophelia was about to say more, but Benjamin cut her off. "Enough!"

He stepped closer to Ophelia, looking down at her. "Ophelia, my patience is wearing thin. Stop making scenes!"

His words cut deep, making Ophelia tremble with anger.

Her voice shook with fury. "Benjamin! Have some decency. You cheated first, and now you're lecturing me?"

Benjamin's eyes darkened as he glared at Ophelia.

"What's going on here?"

A mocking voice interrupted.

Ophelia looked up to see William returning.

Emily whispered to Benjamin, "I saw Mr. William White when I came to find Ms. Taylor earlier."

She suddenly covered her mouth, looking shocked. "Ms. Taylor is so angry. Could it be because I saw something I shouldn't have?"

"Shut up!" Ophelia snapped. "I'm not like you, sneaking around as a mistress, or like some people, cheating and then showing up like nothing happened."

Her dark eyes were full of scorn and icy coldness.

Benjamin frowned, suppressing his discomfort. He turned to the intruding William. "What are you doing here?"

"Mom wants to see you all."

With the guests gathered in the banquet hall, they couldn't stay away.

On the way to the hall, William, never one to miss drama, asked for the details.

After hearing the whole story, he turned to Benjamin. "It's all fine now, Benjamin. Let it go."

"Making a scene over an outsider is the dumbest thing you can do."

"Some people are just born dumb. I've gotten used to it."

Their back-and-forth left Benjamin's expression dark with anger.

His hand on Emily's waist trembled slightly. "Ophelia, are you trying to get a divorce?"

Mia had just reached the door, her ears catching the word "divorce."

She had heard plenty of gossip from the banquet hall.

Seeing the unfamiliar woman by Benjamin's side, her expression didn't change.

She didn't spare Emily a glance and pulled Ophelia to her side.

She shot a look at Emily, who stepped back in shock, then turned to Benjamin.

"Divorce? Did you ask your father and me first?"

Benjamin frowned. He had to give Emily a proper status.

Seeing through his thoughts, Mia snorted. "The White family doesn't accept people of low status. The only daughter-in-law we recognize is Ophelia, not just anyone."

She patted Ophelia's hand gently. "Ophelia, you don't need to worry. The White family only acknowledges you."

"And you've been married to Benjamin for so long. It's time to have a child, so no one else gets any ideas."

Emily's face turned pale, and Benjamin's expression froze.

Ophelia wanted to say she and Benjamin had no feelings for each other.

After today's incident with Emily, their relationship was like an unbridgeable chasm.

A child?

With her spending nights alone, it was impossible. Besides, she wouldn't want a child with someone who had betrayed her.

"You should communicate and resolve your issues promptly, so no one takes advantage."

Surrounded by the White family's confidants, Mia had someone bring a black velvet box to Ophelia. "Open it."

Ophelia did as told.

Inside was a dazzling jewel necklace.

She recognized it as the Desert Star, a unique piece in the world.

Mia had bought it at an auction last year.

Ophelia lowered her head, a hint of mockery in her eyes.

At first, she thought Mia would really stand up for her.
