Chapter 7 Next Time, It Won't Just Be this

The title of Mrs. White in the White family was only acknowledged for Ophelia.

Emily's face turned all shades of embarrassment... it was a sight to behold.

Everyone present had a good relationship with the White family, and those who didn't were here to try and build one.

Now, hearing Stella's blunt revelation, no one dared to speak.

"I already told you, didn't I? What is Emily's status? What are you doing here now?"

"You can ask Emily who invited me here."

The goal was achieved; Benjamin's attitude was clear—he wanted to embarrass Ophelia.

But everyone here was part of the elite circle, and Emily knew Benjamin couldn't be more direct.

She looked at Benjamin and took the initiative to answer, "I ran into Ophelia outside, and I wanted her to join us. I heard Ophelia is exceptionally talented in horseback riding, and I wanted to learn from her. Sister, you don't mind, do you?"

Stella squinted her eyes, about to refuse, when Ophelia answered, "Sure, what kind of competition do you have in mind?"

Everyone followed Benjamin and the others to the stables.

Benjamin personally chose a gentle horse for Emily.

Ophelia casually pointed to a black horse.

Even Stella was worried.

"Ophelia! That horse looks wild."

"It's fine."

She liked challenges.

Emily set her up on a pedestal just to watch her fail? She wouldn't give her the satisfaction.

After selecting their horses, the two stood at the starting line.

Emily looked at Ophelia smugly, "I really underestimated you. You still have the nerve to show up here."

"On that note, you are my teacher." Ophelia retorted.

Emily's expression turned dark instantly, her voice low and cold, "Ophelia, what are you so proud of?"

If not for Ophelia's status, how could the White family ever let her be the daughter-in-law?

"Indeed, there's nothing to be proud of, but the White family acknowledges me as their daughter-in-law. Unlike you, who can only rely on pretenses and impersonation."

Emily squinted her eyes, reaching out to grab Ophelia, but Ophelia dodged.

In that instant, Emily's horse bolted like the wind.

It ran chaotically.

Screams pierced the clear sky.

Benjamin immediately stood up, ignoring everyone's reactions, and grabbed his horse to chase after her!

The situation was critical, and those with Benjamin were ready with emergency measures.

Ophelia didn't expect to dodge Emily's grab, but couldn't avoid this!

She could almost imagine how Benjamin would question her later!

The two horses quickly converged, and Benjamin caught Emily on the spot.

Cheers erupted.

Emily's face was pale.

As Ophelia approached, Benjamin stopped her, "Do you want Emily dead that badly?"

"Am I that malicious in your eyes?" She asked.

"You know enough about horseback riding to understand the consequences of running like that." He insisted.

"Why would I harm Emily?" She was helpless.

In front of everyone, what would she gain other than a reputation for jealousy? Would it make Emily leave Benjamin?

"You know why!"

Before Ophelia could respond, Benjamin kicked Ophelia's horse hard!

The horse bolted forward wildly.

Ophelia tried to stay calm but found the previously gentle horse suddenly trying to throw her off!

She leaned forward, gripping the reins tightly, shouting, "Stella, call for help! I can't control it!"

The horse suddenly became agitated.

At first, Ophelia could hold the reins, but after a few attempts, she couldn't stay steady!

"Watch out!"

As the horse bucked again, Ophelia was thrown off.

After the gunshot, there was no pain, only the sound of the horse collapsing and chaotic screams.

Ophelia forgot to breathe.

A man sat on his horse, looking at her seriously, and she was now lying in his arms.

It was William.

Ophelia's heart raced. She wanted to get up, but her body felt weak.

William spoke softly, "Don't move."

He looked up at the gathering crowd; the horse was subdued. He carried Ophelia to the preparation area.

Benjamin's face was grim, but he said nothing.

He had kicked the horse to vent his anger for Emily.

But William's sudden appearance threw him off even more.

He looked at the close distance between the two but couldn't say a word.

Emily glanced at Benjamin, alarmed, "Thank goodness Mr. William White arrived, or there could have been an accident today."

"If you know your riding skills are poor, dragging someone to compete makes it hard not to think you did it on purpose," William remarked.

William was a madman; Emily didn't dare respond.

Benjamin didn't look at Ophelia, "Next time, it won't be as simple as a startled horse."

With that, he left with Emily.

The show was over; everyone was here to curry favor with Benjamin.

Seeing William, they all left.

Stella approached with concern, "Are you okay?"

Knowing William wanted to talk, Ophelia answered perfunctorily, "I'm fine. Could you get me a juice?"

Understanding they had things to discuss, Stella nodded and left.

With everyone gone, the world quieted.

William looked at Ophelia, "Have you seen his true colors now?"

Married for five years, she always knew Benjamin's true colors.

Before, with Emily gone, she deceived herself, pretending Emily was gone forever.

But now Emily was back, flaunting herself, and she had to reconsider her marriage.

After returning to Briarwood Apartments yesterday, she thought long and hard.

Dragging this marriage seemed pointless.

But Mia wouldn't agree to their divorce.

Ophelia bit her lip, "So what?"

"So you can keep thinking. You have two more days."

He set her down, looking harmless.

After he left, Stella returned with a drink. "Since when are you and William so close?"

Close? Not really.

William approached her, seeing her as someone useful.
