Chapter 8 Playing Recklessly

Ophelia wasn't ready to throw in the towel just yet.

She glanced towards the private room and tugged Stella along with her.

Stella's heart was pounding; she felt like she was joining Ophelia on a mission for payback, and they might actually pull it off!

The door to the private room swung open again, and everyone inside exchanged curious looks.

They seemed to have figured out Benjamin's stance towards Ophelia.

"The game's not over, Emily. You wanna keep going?"

Emily's expression was unreadable. "What are you up to?"

"What are you good at?" Ophelia shot back.

Horseback riding was clearly out of the question.

Everyone there was smart enough to realize Emily wanted to humiliate Ophelia, make her look bad in front of Benjamin.

With that in mind, Emily suggested, "How about a game of Truth or Dare? If you don't wanna answer truthfully, you gotta take three shots. The same goes for the dare. Sound good?"

"Works for me," Ophelia sneered. "Who else is in?"

The tension between the two was thick, and the others were eager to see the drama unfold.

William, sitting in the corner, was the first to raise his hand.

There wasn't any obvious beef between Benjamin and William, but the White family was big enough to have some hidden issues.

Seeing Benjamin and William go head-to-head was something everyone was interested in.

Soon, everyone raised their hands to join in.

With the props ready, Emily pointed at Ophelia after the first round. "Truth or Dare?"

"Truth."

Emily glanced at William and cleared her throat. "Have you been chasing after Ben since you were kids, even rushing over here as soon as you found out he was here today?"

Thinking back to Mia's phone call, Ophelia hesitated briefly but nodded. "Yep."

Next, it was Ophelia's turn to ask Emily, who also chose truth. "Have you messed with someone else's marriage?"

Emily's face went pale for a moment.

Admitting it would mean owning up to her shameless behavior.

Denying it... Well, everyone could see that Benjamin was still married to Ophelia, yet he openly took Emily to various places. How could that not be favoritism?

From this angle, Emily was indeed interfering in someone else's marriage.

Emily pursed her lips. "I'll drink."

Before her slender hand could reach the glass, a large hand grabbed the glass in front of her, downing three shots in quick succession.

Benjamin's gaze was displeased as he looked at Ophelia, his eyes threatening.

But Ophelia didn't even glance at him and kept the game going.

The next two rounds were almost entirely Emily's show.

She asked questions aimed at Ophelia's dignity. "Ophelia, did you only marry Ben because you sucked up to Mrs. White, even humiliating yourself to get her approval?"

The accusation was slightly exaggerated.

Mia did like her, but Ophelia didn't care much about such comments.

Emily just wanted to see her humiliated.

Ophelia smiled. "Yep."

Truth or Dare had turned into a game where she could only say yes.

Emily was satisfied with Ophelia's responses and continued, "You keep chasing Ben and confronting me because you're scared he'll leave you, and you'll lose your status and wealth as Mrs. White?"

"Yes."

Ophelia had once been indifferent to wealth.

But after Emily showed up, she realized that money would never betray her.

True feelings were precious, but that was stuff from novels. Adults should seek tangible benefits.

A burning gaze from the corner made Ophelia uncomfortable.

The tables turned, and the next three rounds were Ophelia's domain.

She asked, "Did you leave Benjamin when he was sick, scared he wouldn't recover, and then come back when you saw he was healthy, hoping to use him to gain resources for your struggling family?"

Emily's face turned as pale as a sheet.

The memories seemed to flash before her eyes, impossible to ignore.

She lowered her gaze. "No."

Everyone noticed her moment of hesitation.

Ophelia didn't mind; she planned to return all the questions Emily had asked her.

"Were your days abroad not as glamorous as they seemed because your family's investments failed, leaving you in debt? Did you act like you were living the high life but had less dignity than a hostess? Did you obey their demands for money?"

This touched on personal privacy.

Benjamin suddenly looked up at Ophelia. "Ophelia, don't go too far."

William spoke up. "Benjamin, how is this too far? Ms. Johnson's questions were over the line, too. If you're so protective of Ms. Johnson, why don't you answer for her?"

Benjamin's eyes narrowed dangerously.

Was William about to intervene?

Benjamin agreed.

Ophelia asked him, "Did your investment manager get set up last December, causing a $1.2 billion loss that you personally covered?"

Benjamin's expression darkened like a storm cloud. "How am I supposed to answer such a mix of truth and lies?"

The $1.2 billion was false! The setup was true.

Ophelia smiled. "Alright, I'll change the question."

"Actually, the marriage wasn't just my unilateral decision. You were involved, too. You said I was easy to control and that you liked me. And in the past six months, you've cheated, haven't you?"

Benjamin frowned. He had indeed done such things, but Ophelia's words were a blend of truth and lies.

He wanted to explain, but doing so here would seem overly serious. If he didn't explain, the blame would fall entirely on him, and he couldn't bear it.

Benjamin had no choice but to drink three shots in a row.

Everyone else looked on in surprise.

Stella secretly gave Ophelia a thumbs-up.

Ophelia was truly brave.

If Benjamin admitted to such things, even if it was just a game, it would benefit Ophelia once they left the room!

The game wasn't over, and Ophelia was about to ask another question when Emily suddenly snapped, "That's enough!"

She turned to Ophelia. "Ophelia, are you really going to keep tormenting Ben like this?"

Ophelia crossed her arms and leaned back on the sofa. "It's not like I forced him to play. Everyone's participating, and no one finds the questions too sharp or difficult to answer."

She paused and continued, "Besides, he's playing for you. Are you saying you can't handle it?"

If she couldn't handle it, Benjamin wouldn't bring her along next time.

The family's debt was real. Her approach to Benjamin for money was also true!
