Chapter Three
Women. Powerful and cunning creatures. Do well to stay away from them~ Xavier Vancei.

Her eyebrows puckers in concentration as if she’s trying to figure out the name of her pack. Her weird reaction puts me on guard. Everything is too easy to be a coincidence. What are the odds of finding a beautiful girl with lips and eyes that I’m finding so hard to resist, in a river that borders between Blackmoon pack and Steelefang pack? Zero. Yet, there she is, water soaking through her blue dress with an embroidery so chic and intricate and so different from the ones I’ve seen on other girls. She looks so different, so unique. So beautiful. There’s a small elegant mole above her upper lip, and I find myself strangely drawn to it. Strange, because I’m not a lover of moles.
I exchange a glance with my brothers, and I know their thoughts are moving on the same path as mine. This girl could be a spy, and was pretending. Perhaps, she is from Steelefang pack.
“I don’t know.” She finally says, and my eyes narrow. I try to ignore how silky her voice is, the intelligent gleam in her eyes, and even the look of surprise that’d crossed her face when she realized that we are triplets.
Xander is less patient than I am, and in the next second, he grips her neck, enough to hurt but not to kill. His claws extend, digging into her brown skin and drawing a bit of blood. She doesn’t flinch. My interest is piqued. When I saw her flailing her arms in the river earlier on, I’d anticipated a damsel in distress. This lady, nose flaring in anger, doesn’t seem like a damsel in distress.
“Speak!” My brother orders. “Are you from Steelefang?” He questions. I don’t miss the quick speck of confusion that flashes across her eyes, disappearing before I can look further. But that doesn’t make me relax. For all we know, she is pretending.
My brother pulls his hand away, and she spits on his face.
“Don’t you dare touch me again.” She spits, hands clenching into a fist. It might’ve been a more believing performance, if her hands aren’t shaking so much from taking a swim in the river.
I decided it’s enough. We are taking her with us. Even if she turns out not to be a spy, we can keep her as our toy.
I push off the ground, extending my hand towards her. She hesitates as she stares at it.
“Take it, you bitch.” Xander cusses.
“Language, bro.” I snap, and he exhales, raising both hands in surrender. She glares at him so hard, I’m surprised that he doesn’t drop dead. What a beautiful hatred-at-first sight to witness. “We are bringing her back with us. She’s freezing and might fall sick.” I add, making Xarius give me a weird look.
“We don’t even know which pack she–”
“We are bringing her back with us.” I say with a note of finality.
“I’m not freezing,” she says, and I glance down at her figure. She isn’t standing, but I can tell she’s not petite. From the way she’s crouched down, I guess she’s a solid six foot tall lady. “Divinity does not freeze.” She adds, and a frown makes its way across my face.
“What?” Xander asks, and Xarius laughs, the sound echoing.
“She’s mad, I think. It’s not rare to find a beautiful girl with mental issues.” He says in between small bouts of laughter.
“So, you find her beautiful?” Xander retorts, spearing him with an odd expression. It looks like he wants to puke. Or wash his ears with bleach. I help the girl up, marveling at her strong grip. Her touch is cold too.
“The pack members won’t take this lying low.” Xarius points out as I lead the way to our car parked just a few feet away. We’d been driving when Xander spotted a figure drowning in the river. Our fast speed ensured that we got there in time. Thankfully. I give a start at how fast my thoughts are moving. I don’t usually give two hoots about women, any woman. Occasionally, I participate in foursomes alongside my brothers, but that’s all. No strings attached. I am not a playboy like Xarius, nor am I a sex addict like Xander.
“The Alpha is dead. We are the new Alphas. What can they possibly say?” Xander counters, and I nod in agreement. I don’t bother to correct his manner of addressing our father, or his cold way of reminding us of his death. We aren’t that attached to the man. It’s a good thing he’s dead anyway.
“Well, you know the pack’s custom. The next full Moon is in a few days, during which we have to pick a mate. Or mates.” Xarius replies, saying the last part with a mischievous smirk.
I pull the car up to the smoothly tarred road and continue on our way back to Blackmoon pack. Seven years ago, we ran away, away from our father’s abuse and I can remember how much we begged our mother to come with us, but she refused. We knew he wouldn’t hurt her; she was his fated mate. But we were a different case altogether. The large scar on my back is a huge evidence to that.
“Is there any problem with that?” I ask, avoiding a pothole in front, and swerving to the side. The action brings the girl who hadn’t bothered to put her seatbelt on, forward. Her hair pools in front, before she pushes herself back.
“Put on your seatbelt, for goddess sake,” Xander commands, and this time, I’m surprised to see that she actually flinches.
“Goddess, goddess,” I hear her soft murmurs as she robotically pulls the seatbelt over her shoulder and snaps it in.
“We better leave her on the roadside. We can’t bring a deranged girl back with us.” Xander deadpans.
“I’d like to fuck her though.” Xarius puts in, and I growl, startling all of us, the girl excluded. I don’t think I’m the jealous type. Heck, I’ve never been jealous, but seeing Xarius give the girl a lustful look, makes anger grip my chest hard. It’s a strange sensation. I don’t like it one bit. I don’t like that I’m affected by her. It’ll affect whatever plans I have for her in the future.
Xarius says nothing, although he gives me a curious look.
“Stop here.” The girl suddenly orders. “Stop here, right now. I want to get down.”
