Chapter 1 One

Kimberly

The first thing I learnt about Greywood Academy was that people like me didn't belong here.

I had been an all A’s student right since middle school, best in everything and it didn’t stop when I got to High school.

Although things were not so smooth, especially as my mum lost her job.She has always wanted the best for me even if it means using her last savings to get it.

And me, I have always been a lucky child, getting things I wish for especially for my grades.

And this is exactly how I got the Greyhigh scholarship I had applied for last month. It was a dream come true for me and my mum.

Going to Greywood high school means rolling with the rich kids in town and probably getting connections, at least so I thought.

My mother had gotten a new job to be the housekeeper of the Grey’s mansion and in assisting her they had given me this scholarship.

“Kimberly, good things do come, but you should be careful and don’t get your hopes high, you might need to bring something in return,” my mum had said this morning as I prepared to leave for my first day of Greyhigh.

I held the Scholarship letter in my hand,my hands trembling, my anxiety was taking the better part of me, it felt like I was walking into another world. Of course this place is different from the school I went to, full of the third level in the food chain, the people there, their parents are the workers of those people in this school.

I walked through the gates and my body was trembling. I wasn’t supposed to be this nervous, I mean I earned the scholarship, in my previous school I was the confident girl, the one who doesn’t shy away from standing up for herself and for others.

At the walkway of the school, cars were parked everywhere, some students were driven in by their drivers, others came in by themselves, in my previous school not one person even owns a car and it’s just very few people that are driven to school by their parents, the cars aren’t even flashy.

I walked further into the premises, all eyes shifted to me immediately, it was as if a star had just walked into the school. Their eyes were shooting daggers at me.

“Who is she? It seems she is new?” a girl whispered beside me.

“Are you sure she is supposed to be here, she doesn’t look like one of us, can’t you see her shoes,” another girl walking with the first girl chuckled, it was more like she was mocking me.

And both of them started laughing.

What is wrong with my shoes though? This is even my best and the newest shoes from among others.

Just a few meters from that spot, I saw a group of girls walking together, they seemed very happy.

“My mum got me this new designer bag, it's worth a fortune,” she smiled, pressing her lips tightly and the other girls around her gasp in surprise.

From their look you could tell they were stinky rich. Everything they were wearing was expensive.

“Hey you, why are you staring at us,” one of them yelled.

And then I realised I had subconsciously stopped to watch them.

“ ooh, I’m sorry,” I said and started walking away.

“Hey come back here,” one of them said, pulling me by my shoulders.

“ Who are you? Are you sure you’re supposed to be here?” She snickered.

“ Of course, I’m the student that got the scholarship,” I smiled.

But they all went quiet, staring at each other .

“I’m Kimberly, Kimberly Smith, it’s nice joining you guys here and it will be nice if we are friends,” I smiled softly, stretching my hands forward for a handshake.

They all burst out in a chorus of laughter.

I became dumbfounded, what’s wrong, did I do something wrong?

“ It will be nice to be your friend,” one of them mimicked, amidst laughter.

My hand was still in the air, that position.

“ Take your filthy hands off here, we don’t make friends with poor people,” one of them said, using the pen in her hand to move my hands away.

My shoulders slumped at her words.

“Now let’s introduce ourselves properly, I’m Cassie Hampton, the prettiest girl in this school, girlfriend to an heir and someone you shouldn’t mess up with,” she snickered “And these are my cliques.”

The others chuckled, folding their arms across their chest.

“You shouldn’t mess up with them either, you wouldn’t even have the gut,” she scoffed,“Now you can go!”

She dismissed me with a wave of her hands.

I began to walk away, my shoulders slumping at my side. This wasn’t what I was expecting, I still have a choice to walk out of this building before I finish my final registration but no this is my life, I won’t back down.

I walked into the administrative block, it was so exquisite, if it wasn’t for the tag I wouldn’t even know it is the block, it looked like the office of one billionaire CEO and his associates.

I walked to the desk of a young woman, she should be in her early 50’s if I’m not mistaken.

“Good morning ma’am,” I greeted.

“Good morning, you’re the new student right?” She questioned, her eyes not leaving the notes she was writing.

“ Yes," I nodded.

“Write down your names, Arts or science?” She questioned.

“Arts,” I answered as I wrote my names on the book she passed to me.

After that, I registered my subjects.

“You’re lucky to be the selected person for the scholarship, people like you wouldn’t even smell here,” she said as I passed her my files.

My heart thudded lightly in my chest, why are they so mean. I didn’t give myself the scholarship, the people who picked me think I’m fit and the right person that’s why they chose me isn’t it?

“So you better be cool headed and be humble here if not the scholarship will slip away from you, you can go,” she said.

And then I walked away slightly bowing my head in shame, I didn’t want to see anyone again, I had already had so much for just my first day.

I just want to go home.

“Ouch, I’m so sorry,” I muttered as I bumped into some hard chest.

I raised my head up slowly to look at the face,6ft, muscular shoulders, chiseled face, pink lips, dark eye boy standing right in front of me.

His face was neutral, his eyes like he was staring deeply into my soul. Two other boys were at his side.

“I see you are not blind. You should watch where you are going next time, dumb-dumb,” he sneered.

I heaved a deep sigh, I have already had enough for today, I won’t let this slip.

“ You better watch your mouth you stupid boy,” I retorted.

He scoffed.

“Trying to rebel, huh?” He smirked,“Welcome to Greywood, you just became a Scumbag of the week.”
