Chapter 5 Five
Xavier
“Scumbag of the week,” I said as I made way for her to go in.
“Xavier, you better res—.” She was about to say something but my mum came out from her room and started climbing downstairs.
“Xavier, is that the help’s daughter?” My mum questioned.
“Uh, yes, she should be,” I turned to look at her, totally suprised. I have seen her mum work here but I never knew she was the one.
Oh now I see the resemblance.
She shifted her gaze away from mine as I continued staring at her.
My mum finally came downstairs.
“Good evening Mrs Grey,” she greeted, bowing her head slightly.
“Oh you must be the help’s daughter,” my mum said, casting her a scrutinising look from head to toe.
“Yes ma’am,” she replied.
Her head was still bowed slightly and she intertwined her fingers, playing with them gently. I could tell she was a little nervous.
“You’re the girl that got the scholarship right?”
“Yes,” she nodded.
“Grey Academy is very particular about conduct, and you know scholarship requires exemplary behavior at all times.”
She didn’t say anything, but shifted one foot.
“ You answer me when I talk,” my mother warned.
“Yes ma’am.”
“Good.”
“You understand you’re only here to assist right?” My mother questioned as she walked over to sit on the couch and Kimberly and I walked behind her.
She continued,“You won’t wander into private areas of the house.”
“Yes ma’am.”
This is a workplace and not a social environment, you won’t linger in the house once your taskes are done.”
She nodded, her head slightly bowed,“Yes ma’am.”
“Okay I believe that’s all for now,” my mother said and Kimberly was about to say something.
“And one more thing, what happens in the house stays in this house, I trust you understand how eas—”
Okay this is getting too much already, I rolled my eyes.
“Mum, I need to show you something upstairs?” I quickly said Just to distract her from her endless interrogations.
“What’s that?” She questioned.
“ Just come,” I smiled and held her on her shoulders to help her stand up.
“ I hope you’re not playing with me,” she warned, pointing a finger at me and her brows furrowed together.
“Come on mum, you know I can’t do that,” I said as pulled her away by her shoulders.
She turned to look at her Kimberly, her eyes cold,“ I believe we are even.”
“ Yes ma’am,” she answered and her shoulders slumped.
I watched her as she heaved a deep sigh, like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.
My mum and her endless questions, always sounding like a broken record anytime we have a new worker.
One of the workers signaled for us that food was ready. So My mum and I went downstairs to eat.
It used to be the three of us in our large dining area, but my dad became very busy with work that he rarely join us.
Different kind of meals were served on the table. I opened one of the plate and the aroma from it made my mouth watered.
I took a spoonful of soup. I haven’t tasted something as good as this in a while.
But I’m not going to sing her praises yet, instead I’m going to do something more fun.
“Yuck! This soup taste so bad,” I said, scrunching my nose up as I picked up a paper towel to clean my mouth.
“Kimberly!” My mum called out and Kimberly came running out from the kitchen.
“Yes Ma’am.”
My mum Sneered,“My son said the soup taste bad why is that so?”
“Uh.. uhm, I don’t —.”She scratched the back of her ears and shifted her gaze from left to right.
“Make another one!” My mum ordered.
And I smiled tightly, things are going as plan.
I started to get up from my chair,“After you’re done, bring it to my room.”
I walked out of the dining area with my shoulders straightened, brushing past her lightly. I didn’t missed the slight irritation on her face.
A chuckle left my lips as I walked further. That’s exactly what I wanted.
I heard a soft knock on my door.
“Come in.”
She came in with a food tray on her hand. She dropped it on the table gently, close to my bed.
She was about to leave, and I grabbed her arm.
Her body tensed , and her breath hitched.
I pulled her closer and she let out a gasp.
My frame was towering over her.
“What are you doing?” She questioned her breath hitched.
I didn’t say anything. I kept leaning closer, my face closer to hers, that my breath could fan her face.
Fuck! Why is she so irresistible?
“Stop! Stop what are you’re doing?” She questioned, her face twisted into a frown, unease flashing across her eyes.
“At least you should ask me out first!” She sneered.
I chuckled and then I moved away.
She quickly moved away from that spot , her face already reddened.
I couldn’t help but smile tightly.
“Such a foolish boy,” she muttered underneath her breath but I still heard it.
It was Monday again, everyone was packed in the hallway as the usual.
Kimberly was walking towards me.
“Hi,” she muttered with a smile on her lips.
I snickered. Looking past me to see if there was anyone beside me.
I pulled her closer, staring intently at her.
“See, do not let what happened the other day get over your mind, I wouldn’t even look at you on a normal day,” I smirked.
She stared at me for a moment, her expression blank. Like she had just heard the greatest shock of her life.
“Don’t worry,” she said softly,“You’re not my type either.”
I snickered. Her Confidence ! I have never seen any girl in this school exude so much confidence.
She walked past me without a glance, leaving me standing there. Completely stunned and furious.
