Chapter 5

  Mandy's POV

I was set to return to my apartment, eat, rest and sleep. It wasn't the end of the world. But the little piece of cloth in my hand pulled me back.

The handkerchief that handsome stranger gave to me while I cried brushed my mind.

  "Dior."

  It wrote.

  Quickly, I googled it.

  Dior Signature Handerchief…..Five thousand dollars.

  My legs went weak.

"What?" I gasped. "I have to return this."

"How do I even get to find him again? I don't think I'll ever meet him again? Or I will?"

  I sighed.

I'll need to hold it with me anytime I'm stepping out.

After bathing, I tried to sleep to forget about today but the sleep wasn't coming, so I slid two sleeping tablets into my mouth, then went to bed. I'd lost the appetite to eat.

Halfway into my troubled sleep, I heard bangs on the door. Loud and aggressive. At first, I thought I was dreaming but it became so loud I couldn't ignore it.

I jumped off the bed. "Who's that?"

  "Atlas."

Hear climbed my chest. "What are you doing here?" I yelled as I dragged the door open.

My angry face met with his angry face. We both stumbled back. I'd never seen him this way before.

"What's it?" My pitch went low.

"Susie is at the point of death, your donation is needed at the hospital."

"What do you mean by that?" I asked.

"What do you mean by that?" He mimicked rudely. "Aren't you the one who pushed her to fall?"

"What sort of nonsense is that? Haven't you betrayed me enough? Must I take the blame this time?"

He picked up the phone. "Dad, I'm here with her. She's proving stubborn."

  "Who's stubborn?" I snapped rapidly.

"Are you stupid to refuse to help your sister?" My father shouted at me angrily over the phone.

"Then did you ever treat me like your daughter?"

"Useless traits won't let you know what you're supposed to." I growled within myself.

"If you don't come here to the hospital in the next thirty minutes, I'll make sure you get kicked out of that apartment and never come back."

The call was cut. I barely took a sigh when the next call came. Stepmom. Louise.

"Heyy Mandy, I know you hate my daughter but please do this one last time." For the first time, her voice wasn't sarcastic.

All of them wanted Susie to survive so badly. Atlas was pacing to and fro, disturbed.

An idea came to mind. Giving them, first of all.

  I scoffed. "Let's go."

Upon actually arriving at the hospital, I showed a reluctant face, sitting at a corner. Their faces flickered with confusion.

"Please come over here, the nurse is coming." Dad said.

"I don't think I'm fit to donate at the moment." I said slowly.

"But you got the most compatible blood type…..in our family?" Atlas stammered.

I shook my head, declining his plea.

"But this is your half-sister we are talking about? What do you want?" He tried to persuade further. His last statement however got me glaring up. An idea rushed in.

  Use it for my benefit.

"I can only agree if……" I paused, turning to dad and he threw his head back in eagerness.

"What?" He grunted but I could see the vulnerability. Whatever I asked at this moment, he would give me.

"I need you to transfer to me all of my mom's shares."

I turned to Atlas, without waiting for dad's response. "You….you're giving me one million dollars for every 100ml of blood."

My face was stern, they knew my heart was made up.

"Without this, I'm not signing for a transfusion."

They stood there, glaring at each other. A few minutes passed, and I hadn't backed down, I watched them nod among themselves.

  "We'll do that." They said.

"We must sign a contract." I gave my condition.

  "Okay." Dad said.

An electronic contract was drafted quickly, the three of us signed.

Then the nurse was invited. It was time for the transfusion. She connected the equipment, took out the syringe to extract my blood but I grabbed her wrist.

"Can I donate if I recently took sleeping pills?"

"Urgh?" She jumped back, terrified. "Why didn't you tell me before?"

"So sorry. I forgot." I said, feigning surprise.

And at once, the equipment were retreated. Dad and Atlas strode forward with fury. I flinched my face to the left, ignoring them.

"You're playing us, right?" Atlas loomed.

"We will deal with you!" Dad threatened and each time he spoke like this, he meant it.

"What are we going to do now? She's in a very critical condition. If nothing is done, she will die." The nurse interrupted.

Louise dropped to her knees before the nurse. "Please save my daughter! Save her please!" She cried.

Time was going. Susie's condition was getting worse.

Without a word, dad grabbed me pushing me inside the waiting room adjacent to the hospital room, switching the lock outside.

"You're going nowhere till she's up!" And off he went.

"We will offer our blood. Atlas and I." I heard him speak to the nurse outside.

True to his words, he didn't let me out till Susie rose up, many hours later.

"You think it's over!" He scoffed, walking out.Atlas stood at the door, striking a look of pity.

Something awaited me. I sensed somehow.

I strode out without giving a dime. Whatever it was that was waiting for me, I'd see.

Some client messages popped up on my phone. Urgent services needed but I wasn't available for it. While trying to message, the sky went dark and it started to drizzle but I had to wait for a cab.

A girl stopped over in a car, asking. "Can I give you a ride?"

I looked up and it was getting darker, back to her, a little bit skeptical.

"I'm an Uber driver." She said.

  "Oh…okay. I smiled, getting in.

"Yay…yahh." She said, I turned. She was making a call. Her face twitched with feigned sadness. "I can't make it to pick you. Something came up."

"Hope not because of……" I lip synced. Worried. She shook her head.

"Don't worry, that's my bro." She whispered with excitement before listening over.

"Well.…you will really thank me if you knew what I did today."

I sighed, looking off. Since she told me not to worry, I didn't need to.
