Chapter 6 CHAPTER 6

Zane

“Zane, learn to beg when you need to. You weren't like this before , how come you're shouting at me now, darling? Aren't I your fiancé?” Dante said with a smile that made my blood boil.

“Dante, don't make me spit on you. You're not my fiancé. You're with Arin, so be happy with him and give my son back. If anything happens to him, I swear I'll make you regret it.” I meant every word.

“Oh really? I'm so scared. Bring that little bastard here. Let me see what you will do. And who is this man with you?” Dante's eyes scanned Viktor.

Viktor gave a small, strange smile , the kind you didn't wear in a situation like this. Then someone dragged Nico into the room.

He was bound hand and foot, his mouth gagged. Tears had reddened his eyes, and there were fresh red marks on his cheeks where he'd been slapped.

The man who had brought Nico here handed him over to Dante.

“DANTE! How dare you? I’ll kill you!” I shouted.

“Chill, Zane. I didn’t kill him, did I? So why are you getting so worked up?” Dante said.

Suddenly he put Nico down right in front of us. Nico began to cry and squirm because he had seen me.

“What do you want, Dante?” I asked.

“Great question. First, I want you to hand over those clothing designs to me , Arin needs them more than anyone right now,” he answered.

He’d kidnapped my son for those foolish designs.

“You have the guts to do this to Nico for that?” a voice echoed through the room. It was Viktor.

I looked at Viktor , he was still smiling at Dante.

“Who the fuck are you? And what the hell are you smiling for?” Dante snapped.

“Your name is Dante. It’s such a nice name to write on a grave,” Viktor said, still smiling.

Viktor’s smile only made Dante angrier. While Dante’s attention was on him, I started to move my hand; there were tricks I’d learned during combat lessons. My rope loosened on my hand , just a little more and it would come off. But then I saw Dante standing in front of Viktor. What had Viktor said to make Dante so furious? I hadn’t paid attention to them; I’d been completely focused on untying my rope.

“Do you think you’re some big shot or something? How dare you smile like that , like you’re not even scared of me. Wait, don’t tell me you’re that bitch’s new guy,” Dante spat.

I noticed something had shifted in Viktor’s smile: he was still smiling, but there was an edge to it now.

“Zane, I didn’t know you’d trapped a new guy this soon. Or were you already his boyfriend before you left me?” Dante sneered.

As he spoke, Dante moved toward Nico and suddenly raised his foot to kick him. At that exact moment my ropes loosened. I threw them off, sprang to my feet, and grabbed Dante’s leg with one hand.

His eyes went wide , he had no idea how I’d untied myself.

“Surprise,” I said.

I let go of his leg and delivered a front kick straight to his chest. Blood spat from his mouth as I followed up with a hard push kick.

“How dare you?” he mumbled, collapsing to the ground.

In the end, he was really weak. I quickly looked at Nico, knelt down, and untied him as fast as I could.

“Nico, your dad is here. You’re safe now,” I said as I untied him.

Nico jumped into my arms, crying, and clutched tightly to my chest with his tiny hands. I hugged him just as tightly, patting his back.

“Dad is here. Everything’s alright.”

Then I heard the metallic sound of a knife. I looked up and saw the fat man who had been sitting with Dante raising a knife toward me.

Before I could react, the blade was inches away. It was a big knife, and I couldn’t even stand. My only thought was protecting Nico, so I pulled him closer into my arms.

I clenched my eyes shut , and then I felt a hand on me. I opened my eyes to see Viktor had jumped in and hugged us. The fat man’s knife had pierced Viktor’s arm.

Wait , wasn’t Viktor tied too? How had he untied himself? No. He had saved us.

“Viktor!” I grabbed his arm.

His face was pale. “Thank God you’re all right,” he breathed, then reached up with his other hand and gently cupped my cheek.

The fat man showed no remorse. He raised his hand and gave a signal to his men to kill us.

“Nico, stay with Viktor,” I said, handing my son into Viktor’s lap.
