Chapter 1 Chapter One
Chapter One
June's POV
“Here's a check for six thousand dollars. It should be enough to start a new life.”
Two weeks ago, he promised to love me forever. He promised me a throne beside him as his crowned Luna, but now, he had his arms wrapped around my sister's waist.
“You love Paige now?” I asked amidst sobs. I had to know. I wanted to be sure. Maybe he was joking. Adrian loves to play around, and maybe just maybe this was one of his jokes, but this one was way too expensive.
My heart sank the moment he nodded, the little hope I had left shattering before my eyes.
“Yes, June. I love Paige now.” His voice was cold.
“What happens to the love we once shared? What happens to all the promises you—”
“They were all fake!” He cut in, and my stomach sank. “I was confused. I could love you, but I never felt anything real. Recently, I realized I can't push it anymore—the fake smiles, the unreal confessions, everything. I needed real and true love, and with your sister, I found that.” He turned to kiss her again, this time deeply.
Paige flashed a wicked smile at me as they broke apart, and my knuckles clenched into a fist.
I wanted to attack her, but I knew I wouldn't survive it now that my wolf was gone. Now that I was nothing but an omega, Adrian had reduced me to.
“I'm sorry, but you have to leave now, June. You can't stay here. My pups can sense how unfortunate you are, and I nauseate whenever you're near.”
Another blow to my face. Paige was pregnant.
I turned to look at Adrian. “You're the father.” I didn't wait for him to explain.
“She's three weeks pregnant, June. We've been having an affair even before I marked you, but you were too blind to notice.” I could feel the mockery in his voice, but he was right. I was too dense, and he didn't hesitate to make a fool out of me.
“Adrian and I are starting a family together, and tonight he's going to mark me as his mate.” Paige chirped in, her palms gently rubbing her belly. “You have to be there, June. I want you to suffer the pain of watching your mate mark someone else—your blood, your sister.” A grimace crossed her lips as she watched me burn with regret.
“Don't feel sad, June. After all, you were never my fated mate, and I just marked you out of pity. After you confessed you had a crush on me, I didn't want to reject you because you helped me survive, but I can't do this anymore. The money is more than enough for you. After the coronation tonight, you will leave and never come back.” He declared, his voice sharp enough to make me certain he wasn't joking.
I held my chest. I couldn't feel Elara anymore. I was nothing without my wolf—absolutely nothing.
“You are ungrateful, Adrian.” I sniffed, trying to fight back my tears, but they rolled down anyway. “After everything I did, you still had the nerve to go behind my back and cheat on me with my younger sister.”
He fixed his eyes on me. He was too bold. Whatever I said and how I felt didn't matter. Only Paige mattered, and I had to accept that.
“Paige is my true mate, and if I really want to rule this pack flawlessly, I need her with me. She adds to my strength. I can't keep an omega with no mate by my side, and you should understand, June. You've always been good at understanding. Why are you acting all slow and dumb?”
I looked into his emerald eyes but couldn't find the Adrian I used to know in those orbs anymore. Those eyes that once gazed at me with tender love were now filled with contempt and hatred. Paige was all he had in his mind now, but she wasn't there to save him two months ago when he was dying, his life hanging by a single thread.
Adrian had gone into battle and was shot by a poisoned arrow. No one recorded to have suffered the same had ever survived—not with the help of a healer like me—Silver Wolf, the pack's soothing balm.
But I lost that title the moment Adrian stepped into my life. The dark magic surrounding the poison was too strong, too toxic for my wolf to overcome. Still, I went against all odds, disobeyed my Mentor, Madam Esther, who had warned me about the consequences ahead, to be with Adrian. And here he was, ditching me for my own family—my blood sister.
“Argh, my tummy. My pups.” My brows shot up when I heard that fake cry come from Paige's lips.
Adrian rushed to grab her, his eyes full of concern for her. Now that Paige was carrying his pups, he would do anything she wanted, and the more they remained together, the more she manipulated him.
She had always been jealous that I had the Silver Wolf title and not her, and had done her best to make me feel unwanted in the family.
She made our father hate me when he was still alive because I was unable to heal Mom when she was sick. Meanwhile, Paige was the one who tied a thread around her wrist to prevent my magic from working on her.
Paige convinced him that I was too jealous and would rather save my strength, going around being a philanthropist, healing random wolves, rather than saving my own mother's life.
She stole my father's love from me, and now she was stealing Adrian away from me, too.
“June, leave!” Adrian yelled. “Your presence is hurting my mate. I'll leave my mark on you; I want you to suffer from a half-wrecked bond.” He grimaced, his arms wrapping around Paige protectively.
I chuckled, biting my lower lip as a new anger set in.
I could die if he didn't reject me and went on to mark Paige, considering I was now an Omega and Elara wasn't with me to fight the pain.
“Since you're not ready to reject me, I'll do it myself,” I said, with a tight-lipped smile. A new resolve settled in. Minutes ago, it seemed I wasn't ready to let go of this cheating man, to leave his pack, but now, I cared less. I was going to die anyway; I didn't want to see any of them again.
“I, June And WolfClaw, reject you, Adrian BloodMoon, as my mate.”
