Chapter 2
The man, who had no intention of looking back, finally stopped.
He looked at me with disbelief.
[What did you say?]
Five years of marriage.
We had been entangled for five years.
If I could take the initiative to let go, he must have been so happy that he couldn’t believe it.
I continued,
[I’ve already arranged the divorce papers. Tomorrow, find some time to sign them.]
[Let’s part on good terms.]
Rock stood motionless, his expression serious.
It seemed like he was considering the truth behind my words.
After all, he had long lost trust in me.
But then, suddenly, Rock’s expression changed.
His gaze shot towards me like a sharp blade.
[What do you mean? What kind of game are you playing? Do you want me to be scolded by my elders again?]
[You know they like you, and you say this on purpose to embarrass me, right?]
I laughed in anger,
[I’m serious.]
[I’ll bring up the divorce with them myself.]
Rock sneered dismissively.
[If you divorce me, where will you go?]
[You’ve been nothing since ten years ago...]
He stopped mid-sentence, suddenly losing his words.
His throat seemed to be blocked, his face turning red from the strain.
He knew I was left with nothing when we first got together, completely dependent on him.
He didn’t say anything else. With a cold face, he left.
The next day, my transfer request was approved.
I was set to leave in a week.
I couldn’t delay the divorce any longer.
The Whites' had been in business for generations, controlling significant commercial positions and wealth.
Rock spent most of his time outside, whether in shops or attending social events.
I called his assistant for his schedule.
I waited for an opportune moment to find him and talk about the divorce again.
When I entered the shop, the assistant led me to the private room.
I was a little bored waiting, so I stepped outside to take a look.
I overheard some employees gossiping.
[The young master just brought someone. They look pretty close.]
[But didn’t they say the person sitting upstairs is the real deal?]
Another voice responded dismissively,
[So what if she’s the real deal? She’s been neglected for years.]
[Didn’t you see that the young master’s heart is completely with that girl?]
[When was the last time he brought his wife around?]
[If she hadn’t barged in today, I would have thought she was a relative of the Whites'.]
Normally, I would have gone out and confronted them.
But they were speaking the truth.
After all these years of marriage, everyone knew Rock had a wife.
But he never brought me out with him.
My identity had become a rare secret.
I stepped back into the private room, distracted.
But when I looked at my seat, someone was already sitting there.
Gracia glanced at me and pretended to care,
[You look sick, are you not feeling well?]
[No wonder Rock has been running to me lately, I guess he’s afraid you’ll infect him.]
Her provocation didn’t faze me, but I wouldn’t let her humiliate me like that.
[It’s better than some people, shamelessly trailing behind a married man for so long.]
[And still not even having any status.]
Gracia stared at me, her eyes instantly turning red.
With tears, she rushed out.
Just seconds later, a commotion came from downstairs.
I furrowed my brow and went to investigate.
When I looked down, I saw Gracia surrounded by people, being pointed at and ridiculed.
[She’s a homewrecker, she should just die!]
[What’s wrong with her? How could she make such a mistake?]
[She’s always sticking around Rock, it’s intentional.]
[The Whites's wife is too low-key, never showing up, and now this kind of woman has taken advantage of that and ruined the family!]
[Enough!]
A loud bang came from the door.
Everyone turned to look and saw Rock’s fist hitting the door.
His face was terrifyingly dark.
