Chapter 2
Martha had two little pigtails. Her delicate little face showed a maturity that was different from that of her peers.
“Martha, would you like your aunt to take you home?” Monica’s mother frowned, looking at Martha with concern in her eyes.
I heard from her homeroom teacher that Martha’s mother only came to pick her up on the day she started school. Usually, Martha went to and from school by herself.
Martha is just a four-year-old child. How can her parents be at ease?
Monica’s mother thought to herself, if only she had such a cute and beautiful daughter, she would want to hold her in her hands at all times, and be the first one to greet her when school was over.
“Thank you, auntie. I can go back by myself,” said Martha Milton in a light-hearted tone, as if it were a completely ordinary matter. Then she glanced at the chubby little boy beside her, her eyes filled with guilt. “While we were playing on the slide together, he accidentally fell down.”
Monica was much larger in size than her peers, and quite chubby. She didn’t have many friends. The other children in kindergarten bullied her. Only Martha wanted to play with her.
Previously, he refused to go to school at all because of being laughed at by others. But lately, every morning he urges his mother to take him to kindergarten as soon as possible.
Monica’s mother was very surprised. After asking around, she found out that Monica had made a good friend.
Simone Milton walked towards them slowly. When Martha saw her, her eyes widened in surprise. She was about to call out “Mommy,” but then changed her mind and said, “Auntie~”
After saying that, her expression turned gloomy, and she pouted.
In the novel, after Simone Milton entered the entertainment industry, she wouldn’t allow Martha to call her “mom,” only “aunt.”
Simona Milton noticed that the brightness in Martha’s eyes had dimmed. For some reason, she felt a pang of sadness at that moment. She bent down and gently stroked Martha’s head affectionately. “How was your day at school?”
“Today, the teacher praised me and gave me a big red flower.” Martha tilted her head slightly up, smiling like a flower.
It was her mother’s first time picking her up from school, so she was naturally excited.
“Are you Martha’s aunt?” Monica’s mother looked at the young, beautiful girl in front of her with confusion. Frowning, she said, “Where are her parents? How can they just leave such a young child to go to school by herself? That’s completely irresponsible!”
Simone Milton’s face turned a little embarrassed. She said, “Her parents are too busy. I’ll definitely come to pick her up from school every day from now on.”
She knew that the other person had no ill intentions and that everything they said was for the child’s sake.
The two exchanged a few words briefly, then went their separate ways.
“Mommy~” Martha blurted out. As soon as she said it, she realized she’d made a mistake. She immediately lowered her head, looking apologetic. “Auntie, I was wrong.”
“What ‘auntie’? There’s no one here anyway. Just call me ‘mom’.” Simone Milton looked at her pitiful little face and her heart melted instantly. She couldn’t help but kiss her rosy cheeks.
If Simone Milton wants to succeed in the entertainment industry, Martha truly represents a huge obstacle.
After going through many things, Simone Milton in the novel comes to see Martha as an obstacle to her career, and becomes increasingly indifferent toward her.
It’s even reached a point where they don’t care anymore, wishing they’d never had this child in the first place.
“Mommy~” Martha looked at Simone Milton with innocent eyes, lowering her voice carefully as she spoke.
Although they’re mother and daughter, Martha always seems distant. She’s learned at a young age how to read people’s expressions.
Simone Milton used to think that being around children was a nightmare. But after seeing how cute and sensible Martha was, she immediately fell in love with the girl.
Subconsciously, he held her in his arms, his gaze filled with tenderness.
On the way home, they passed by many small stalls. Martha bought everything she liked.
Martha hadn’t been this happy in ages, with a smile never leaving her face.
The two of them are currently living in Juliet Milton’s villa. The place is heavily guarded, so it’s unlikely that anyone will be able to take photos of them there.
Juliet Milton is a very clean-living person. Having been used to living alone, having two extra people in her home suddenly made her feel very uncomfortable.
At first, they wanted to rent a house for Simone Milton. Later, they said they’d buy a house instead. In any case, they didn’t want the two of them living here.
Simone Milton was very persistent. There was everything one could need in this villa, and someone was there to take care of household chores. It wouldn’t be convenient at all for her to go live elsewhere.
Under her persistent pleading, Juliet Milton finally agreed, but the two of them signed an agreement.
First and foremost, there’s the issue of identity. Absolutely no one should let Martha go around shouting and causing trouble.
Second, the house must be kept clean at all times.
The details are outlined in great detail in the agreement. But overall, these two points are the most important.
But Simone Milton was always messy and untidy at home, which caused great frustration to Juliet Milton.
Every day, Juliet Milton thought countless times about driving the two of them away. But in the end, out of kindness, she allowed them to stay.
Upon returning home, Simone Milton opened the refrigerator. Inside, there were only a few wilted vegetables that had been there for quite some time.
“Mom, after you got sick and were hospitalized, Grandpa didn’t come home either. The aunts in the house didn’t even cook meals,” Martha said softly behind her.
“How did you get through all those days?” Simone Milton stared at her in shock, unable to believe that a four-year-old girl could have spent so much time at home by herself.
Martha’s dark eyes shifted as she said softly, “Martha can cook pasta. Sometimes, I also buy some bread and milk.”
Simone Milton shook her head helplessly, then took Martha to the supermarket nearby. As they walked, she cursed under her breath, “It was your daughter who caused the problem. Why take your anger out on a child? That’s completely unacceptable!”
Martha is in a period of rapid growth right now. It’s really cruel that she can’t even get a hot meal to eat.
“Actually, Grandpa isn’t that bad. He treated Martha when she was sick, gave us a lot of money, and allowed us to live in such a nice place.”
Simone Milton frowned slightly and tapped her forehead gently. “He’s your grandfather. It’s his duty to do these things.”
Martha could tell right away that she was angry, so she didn’t say anything else after that.
Simone Milton bought some daily necessities at the supermarket. Most importantly, she purchased plenty of vegetables and some dried goods as well.
When paying at the counter, I was shocked to see that huge amount of money. Thankfully, there was enough money in my card.
Juliet Milton usually gives her daughter and herself enough money. However, Simone Milton often acts generously in public, inviting people to dinner frequently. That’s why the money in her pocket runs out so quickly.
Upon returning home, Simone Milton quickly prepared a meal for the whole table.
Martha, who was very sensible, picked up the bowls and chopsticks. Just as she was about to start eating, Juliet Milton slowly walked in.
He wore a beret and mask, and a custom-made suit. He stood at the door and glanced around the living room.
