Chapter 4 Chapter four

I packed all my suitcase, staring around our bedroom. In one day I will finally leave here. I was about to shift my luggage to another room when a notification popped up. I grabbed my phone from the table.

“A message from an unknown number?”. I murmured to myself, swiping my phone open. Clicking on the message, I realized it was a video and the remaining pieces of my heart completely shattered as I watched the content.

Laurel was in a bikini, standing in a yacht with Brian in front of her, kneeling as he wrapped his arms around her waist, his face on her tummy. Like a servant kneeling for his queen.

A dull ache spread through my chest, sharp and relentless. So, the reason Brian postponed our wedding wasn’t because of work. It was to accompany the woman he truly cherished on a fishing trip.

Recalling how much I have always wanted a yacht trip, I could beg him and offer to foot the bills. At first Brian agreed only to later decline with his usual “I’m stuck at work” excuse.

Another message came in. [See? I have him wrapped around my finger tips. It will only take a few words from me for him to reject you, know your place].

[But I really can’t blame you, you must have been so lonely that you’re willing to stick with a man who already has a mate]

[If you make a video of yourself kneeling and begging then I might consider telling him to come back. Or else you will spend your moonlight ceremony alone]

I smiled, not bothering to respond and blocked her number. But Laura went as far as making a post on social media and tagging me.

“Best man in the world”. Was the caption. Since she wanted my attention so much then she will have it. I will comment on it.

[How cute! You two look like a match made in heaven. Brian must really be a dog to be this loyal even after you publicly rejected him] immediately I sent the comment. I blocked her from all my social media handles immediately.

Almost immediately, Brian call came through. At first I thought he would start making excuses for the post but…

“Hey love”. His voice that used to push away all the tension in my body suddenly became the reason I’m more tense and angry.

“Hello”. I responded blankly.

“Do you have lots of customers in the shop? You haven’t called me for five days now”. I almost laughed, afterall he was right. I was always the first to call, care and ask how he was.

It took him five days to finally notice I haven’t called or texted him. Even when he was the one who postponed our wedding without letting me know. And I have to be hearing it from his secretary that our wedding has been postponed, I still have to call and ask about him? I must have been a fool.

“What’s wrong? Do you have a cold? I reduced the AC before I left, Don’t tell you high it again? You know how weak your body is”. Tears formed in my eyes as I heard the concern in his voice, unable to believe the same man who is with his mistress is still so concerned about me.

I have always had a weak tolerance to colds and my body gives out easily when I’m freezing. Brian would always stay up all night while I caught a cold, caring and making soup for me.

“Where are you?”. I asked. There was a long pause on the phone. He cleared his throat before speaking again. No one needed to tell me he was trying to form a lie. But still I waited patiently for what he would say this time.

“Didn’t Sheila tell you?”. He asked, knowing by now he had no idea what his secretary had told me. He had probably told her to lie to me.

“No, did you tell her to tell me something?”. I responded. I could almost feel his nervousness from the phone, he kept clearing his throat unable to form a word.

“Do you remember Ryan?”. He asked.

“I do”. I lied, having absolutely no idea who that was. There wasn’t even a Ryan in his friends group.

“I had gone with him to an alpha gathering. He just recently got appointed as an alpha and was scared to face the others so he asked me to accompany him”. He didn’t even stutter once as he lied.

“Which pack is he from? I don’t remember any alpha in your friends group?”. With that, he went absolutely silent again.

Brian was the only one able to become an alpha in his friends group and that was only because I had helped him in the alpha contest. Brian was the third son of his father and his father had made a contest, whoever wins will be the new alpha.

“Angel? Can you hear me? I think the network is breaking”.

“Brian!”. I yelled this time, I could feel him freeze at the other end. “Will you come home if I ask you to?”. I whispered, I don’t know why I’m still hoping.

“Since when are you this petty?”. He was about to say something else when a voice interrupted.

“Be good and wait for me, I’m doing this for us. I will be back in two hours max”. He didn’t even wait for me to respond before brutally hanging up. Just two days, after that I won’t be here.

I carried all my luggage to another room, just as I was about to take the last one, my phone rang again. At first I thought it would be Laurel, judging from the strange number, signing I picked it up. But it was about my flight.

“Hello Miss Angela, I’m sue. Calling from safe trip airport, I’m calling to inform you your flight has been shifted to a week from now”.
