Chapter 2 Meeting The Brothers
STAR
I freshened up and dressed in one of the designer gowns in my closet, it was moderate for dinner and chic. I stared at myself in the mirror for what seemed like forever.
I looked different.
I didn't look like the regular old wannabe fashion enthusiast but someone with more class and taste. Now, I believe that the way you dress alters your appearance and who you really are.
The dress was perfect for me; it wasn't too tight to expose my slender curves, but it stopped right at my mid-thigh. I was someone you could pass for a supermodel because of my tall frame and slender figure.
One thing I'd always been grateful for was my beauty, at least dad didn't get to be totally useless because I'd inherited his lethal face card with mum's green eye color only that mine had a fragment of golden specks surrounding them.
I did a light makeup though I found it unnecessary but I wanted to make an impression on my new family. I mean, that's not doing too much, right?
After layering the final touches of clear lip gloss on my lips, I smiled at myself, feeling contented.
"Well... I always eat well," I grabbed my phone and took a mirror picture I'll be sharing with my friends later. I walked out of the room and headed towards the staircase.
I got to the last step of the staircase when one of the maids approached me. "This way to the dining room, Ms. Star," the she-wolf directed. I nodded my head in response and followed her.
When we got to the dining hall I was left in a bowled state. It looked more like a ballroom that had an enchanting glass table in the middle. There was a huge crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling that illuminated silver light across the hall.
My eyes trailed over to mum who was sitting at the table. She was wearing a lovely emerald evening gown and a white furry shawl, which she draped over her exposed shoulders.
I noticed the man cladded in a black three-piece suit. It seemed like the air around him asked for permission before intruding on his space. His face was lowered so I couldn't get a clear view of how he looked as he typed casually on his smartphone.
Something in me told me that must be Alpha Frederick, the powerful man my mum was blessed to get married to.
I swallowed and took cautious steps towards the dining table.
Mum noticed my presence first, "Star!" She smiled elatedly, rising from her seat.
"Mum," I returned her smile. The man sitting at the head of the table raised his head to look at me and I froze. He had to be the most enthralling man I'd ever set eyes on. There was something mysterious and unique about his grey eyes.
"Star, meet Alpha Frederick," Mum introduced cheekily. She looked so happy and it melted a deep part in me.
"Goo-Good evening, Alpha Frederick," I greeted softly, bowing my head in courtesy.
"Nice to meet you, Star, welcome to the family," his deep voice rang out and I felt chills all over my skin.
This man is something. Mum is so lucky, I must say.
"Ye-yes! Thank you." I stuttered, feeling nervous while I took my seat opposite Mum.
"Your mother has spoken quite frequently about you." His voice came out calm and collected.
I glanced at mum wondering what she had said about me as she settled in her seat. Our eyes met and I indirectly asked for a clue with my gaze but she winked in response while allowing traces of a faint smile to play at the edge of her lips.
I cleared my throat, giving my attention back to Alpha Frederick. "I believe they're all good things," I mused.
"Of course—" He chuckled.
"And your mother is right. Your beauty is just like hers." He gave a soft smile, then darted his eyes towards Mum as he stared at her lovingly.
I grinned inwardly, catching Mum blush at his words. She looked like a high school girl whose crush was confessing to her.
He's a nice man and charming too, I would give him that.
The maids began to serve the dishes and it was as if I were in a five-star Michelin restaurant. The meals looked exotic.
I noticed the rest of the seats were empty and that reminds me I haven't met the Alpha sons yet.
Or could it be...
No. I shoved the thoughts aside.
Perhaps it's too early to conclude.
"Why aren't Levi and Liam here yet?" Alpha Frederick questioned, glancing at Mum.
"Hm, I will get the maid to call them over," mum said and my heart suddenly started beating.
"Cici!" Mum called out, and one of the maids close by rushed over to her. "Yes, Luna."
"Please, inform the boys that dinner is ready and they should be here," she ordered.
"I will get them right away, Luna," the maid bowed her head slightly before taking her leave.
I fiddled anxiously with my fingers beneath the table. I don't know but I wasn't getting a good vibe from this. I mean it's expected, I'm the outsider trying to be a part of this pack and family.
The Alpha began to eat while I just stared at my meal. "Is the food not to your liking?" He asked genuinely causing me to fidget in my seat.
"No, not at all... the food looks great," I smiled nervously.
Mum leaned forward after cutting the huge steak on the table and dropped a piece on my food. "Here, have some meat," she offered.
I looked at her, and I could tell she was trying to tell me I was doing well with the way she stared at me and I gave a small nod in return.
Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the cutlery set neatly beside my plate and was about to eat when I heard heavy footsteps behind me.
Curious, I turned my head over my shoulder and a pair of striking stormy grey eyes met mine. My lungs wheezed, and I felt my throat get dry.
He was a splitting image of Alpha Frederick but the younger version, his jawline was sharp and chiseled. His short dark hair was wavy and ruffled adding to his hotness. I stole glances at his toned ripped arms. Well, it was noticeable because he was wearing a sleeveless vest, duh.
And gurl—
He's freaking tall!
Damn.
I was tall but he's way taller and it kind of excited me too bad we're siblings.
I drifted my eyes back to his and noticed he was also extensively staring at me too as he'd halted in his tracks then it happened.
He made an irritating face and snickered like I was a pest before proceeding to pull the seat next to mine and sit down.
I crashed inwardly while staring back at my meal.
No, Star. I'm just overthinking it.
"Liam, where is your brother?" Alpha Frederick demanded. I could feel my palms sweaty for no reason.
"Pretty sure he's playing some dumb video games," Liam shrugged his shoulders, unconcerned.
The maid mum had asked to call the boys, who appeared, "Alpha, Levi said he will join dinner later," she said lowering her head.
They didn't want me. I could tell.
"Tell him to get here this instance or you face the consequences." Alpha Frederick threatened.
"Ye-yes, Alpha!" The poor maid trembled and turned around immediately.
"Tch, like you cared if we ate at the table before," Liam muttered.
"What did you say?" Alpha Frederick growled, shooting his gaze at him and my heart jumped.
"Nothing. Everything seems to be bubbling because of a certain someone." I could feel the sarcasm heavy in his voice and his father must have noticed too as he was about to speak.
The certain someone—he must have been referring to me.
Mum cleared her throat to ease the tension going on and it felt like I was going to suffocate while sitting here. "Liam, say hello to your sister," mum smiled, but it was a smile that didn't reach her eyes. I could tell.
I wish she hadn't suggested that.
"Well, hello dear sister," Liam snorted, and my knuckles turned white.
I felt uneasy, awkward but managed to muster the brightest smile I could afford and turned to look at my supposed brother—stepbrother, I mean.
He leaned close to me. "You don't look bad," he breathed out in an alluring way. His eyes stared condescendingly at me.
The smile on my face dropped immediately and my fingers trembled around the knife and fork I was holding.
He was waiting for me to speak, I could tell from that smug expression sitting comfortably on his face.
"Likewise, I could say the same about you," I retorted. His brows furrowed a bit and he pulled back. It seems I'd caught him by surprise.
If he's like this I wonder how his brother would be and speaking of the devil another younger version of Alpha Frederick waltzed in without notice.
Wait?
What?
Are they twins?
It was as if I was seeing a duplicate of Liam but this one had white hair and heterochromia eyes, one grey and one auburn in color.
I stared at him but he didn't even bother to glance at me, as if I were invisible.
He drew the chair next to Mum and sat down. "What took you so long?" The corner of Alpha Frederick's eyes crinkled as he stared at his other son.
"Busy." He said and that was all. He spared no ground to explain further.
He appears to be the cold and distant type. I noted from the way he unbotheredly helped himself with his meal.
Mum clasped her hands drawing attention from everyone. "Well, since the boys are here. Levi this is Star, your sister."
He dropped his cutlery in one blunt move creating a clanking sound across the hall and his eyes met mine, brief and boring like he couldn't care less.
He grabbed his cutlery and resumed eating but something about the way he just looked at me felt unsettling.
"Star," Alpha Frederick called.
“Yes, Alpha?” I responded to him.
"You'll be following your brothers to their Academy—"
"What?" Liam shifted in his position, annoyed.
Alpha Frederick shot a glare at him. "Do you have an issue with that?" his father cocked a brow at him.
"She doesn't fit in Father, the Academy is meant for strong werewolves who have Alpha and Lycan blood in them. Trust me she will be squashed like a bug in no time." He mocked as my fingers around the knife I was holding tightened.
"Liam! You will say no such things to your sister." Mum defended.
"But it's the truth," he taunted.
Coming here was a huge mistake.
"Liam!" Alpha Frederick hit his palm on the table which caused a resounding sound in the hall.
"Watch that mouth of yours unless you want it torn," he warned and I could hear Liam scoff beside me.
"Star is a beta born which makes her fit for the Academy and you two as her brothers will make sure she is free from harm and protected—"
"At all costs." He said with finality.
I could feel Levi's gaze burning through me across his seat since he hadn't said a word about me enrolling in his school, I looked at him.
His gaze was cold and eerie and he pulled his seat back abruptly and began to walk away.
"Where are you going, Levi?" Alpha Frederick shot at him, stopping him in his tracks.
"Done." He uttered in a single word and continued walking.
"I guess I'm done here too, thanks for the meal," Liam stood up from his seat too but not before casting one dreadful look towards my way before he left.
I let out a sigh before looking towards mum who gave me a concerned look. "Alpha Frederick, I don't mind going to a different school than theirs since they don't want—"
"No, Star, we've made preparations for you to enroll in Dusk Shade Academy, and trust me, you'll love it." Alpha Frederick said warmly and I nodded my head.
"Your mum, informed me you haven't gotten in contact with your wolf yet, so, it's a great place to study and train." He added.
Right...
I forgot to mention I was wolfless.
