Chapter 6 What If We’re Soulmates?
STAR
I almost sighed out loud.
“Well, your transfer has already been sorted out,” she continued while scrolling through some files on her tablet. “Dormitory exemption because you’ll be staying at the Alpha estate, elite classes assigned already, and your schedule has been prepared.”
She handed me a paper and I took it from her quickly.
“Thank you.”
“You’ll need someone to guide you around properly today though,” she added. “The school can be a little difficult for newcomers.”
A little?
This place was practically a labyrinth designed by psychopaths.
“That would actually help a lot,” I admitted.
“Perfect.” She pressed something on the intercom beside her desk. “Send Miss Imogen Hale into my office please.”
My brows lifted slightly in surprise.
Wait.
A few seconds later the office door opened again and Imogen peeked inside nervously before fully stepping in. The moment she saw me sitting there her eyes widened behind her glasses.
“Oh.” I immediately grinned.
“No way.”
Principal Delaney smiled. “Imogen here is one of our top students, very responsible, very intelligent. She’ll help you settle in.”
Imogen looked equally shocked and awkward while clutching her books tighter against her chest. “I didn’t know the new student was her.”
“Apparently we’re fated,” I sighed dramatically while standing up. A laugh escaped Imogen before she quickly covered her mouth.
“I wouldn’t mind being first lesbian mates with you honestly,” I teased. Her entire face turned red instantly.
“Oh my God.”
I burst out laughing while Principal Delaney looked horrified for some reason.
“I’m joking,” I chuckled. “Relax.” Imogen shook her head while laughing nervously too. “You say things so confidently.”
“Because life is short and people are boring.”
Principal Delaney cleared her throat loudly like she regretted pairing us together already. “Well… yes. Anyway, Imogen will take you to your classes and show you around campus.”
“Perfect,” I smiled sweetly before turning toward Imogen. “Let’s go then. Where’s my first class guide?”
Imogen looked down at the schedule paper in my hand then suddenly blinked rapidly. “Wait.”
“What?” She grabbed the paper carefully and stared between it and hers. “No way.”
“What?”
“We have the exact same schedule.”
I gasped dramatically. “Stop. We’re literally soulmates.”
“Star.”
“What?”
She laughed again, cheeks still pink while shaking her head. “Lesbian mates might be superficial but fated isn’t.”
I clutched my chest. “That was beautiful.”
“I regret talking already. That was cringey I'm sorry”
I barked out another laugh while Principal Delaney practically shooed us out of the office at that point. “You girls should head to class immediately.”
Imogen’s eyes widened suddenly. “Wait—”
“What?” She looked at the wall clock and her face paled. “We have Mr. Fez' class in five minutes.”
“…Who is Mr Fez?.”
“Come on!”
She grabbed my wrist suddenly and pulled me out of the office before I could even process things properly. We rushed through the hallways together while students jumped out of the way, my bag bouncing against my side as I tried not to trip in my heels.
“Why is everyone here always running?” I breathed out.
“Because if you’re late to Mr. Fez class he locks the door and marks you absent,” Imogen answered quickly.
“That’s evil.”
“He’s worse than evil.”
We turned another hallway corner quickly and nearly crashed into two weirdos making out against the wall. I blinked once while the girl slapped a hand over her boyfriend’s mouth in horror.
“Move!” Imogen yelled. “I’m traumatized,” I muttered while she dragged me away.
“You’ll survive.”
“I don’t think I will.”
The hallways somehow became even louder as more students poured through them trying to reach classes before the bell rang. Some people still stared openly at me as I passed by and whispers followed behind us like annoying little ghosts.
“That’s the new girl.”
“The one that argued with Daisy?”
“She even talked back to Liam.”
“Is she insane?”
Probably.
“Yes,” Imogen answered under her breath suddenly.
I blinked at her. “Did you just answer my thoughts?”
“You said probably out loud.”
“Oh.”
We rushed upstairs and my lungs already hated me for it. “This school has too many stairs.”
Honestly, talking to Imogen felt weirdly easy. She was shy but funny in this quiet accidental way and it balanced out my chaos nicely.
We finally slowed down when we reached another large hallway lined with darker classroom doors. Students stood outside chatting while others rushed in quickly before the bell.
“That’s our class there,” Imogen pointed toward a door near the end.
I followed her finger then immediately wished I hadn’t.
Because sitting right near the back windows like they owned the entire damn room were Liam and Levi.
Of course.
Fucking of course.
Around them sat Daisy and her little army together with a bunch of guys who looked exactly like the type to bark if the twins told them to. The entire seating arrangement practically screamed hierarchy. Students near them laughed too loudly at whatever Liam was saying while others looked careful not to annoy either twin.
Ugh.
I suddenly wanted to throw up.
Daisy noticed me first.
Her face twisted instantly.
Then Liam looked over.
And smirked.
That stupid smug irritating gorgeous smirk.
Levi glanced up too, his expression unreadable as usual but his mismatched eyes lingered on me for one second too long before he looked away again.
“Why do they sit like they’re mafia bosses?” I muttered under my breath.
Imogen nearly choked beside me. “Please don’t let them hear you say that. I can't get in trouble.”
“I’m serious,” I whispered. “Look at them. They literally look like they’re about to discuss illegal weapon trading.” A laugh escaped her before she quickly covered it with her hand.
The closer we got to the classroom door, the heavier the tension felt. Daisy’s eyes practically burned holes into my skin while Liam leaned back in his chair looking way too entertained by my existence.
I hated that look already.
That look that said he knew something I didn’t.
“This,” I sighed dramatically while staring at the classroom, “is officially the worst luck I’ve ever had in my life.”
And worse part?
The day had barely even started.
The moment I stepped fully into the classroom Daisy noticed me and let out the fakest laugh I’d ever heard in my life. It echoed loudly enough to drag everyone’s attention toward me again and honestly at this point I was starting to feel like some zoo animal these people paid to stare at.
“Well, look who finally crawled in,” she smirked, folding her arms over her chest while crossing one long leg over the other. “Dusk Academy's newest tramp is finally here.”
A few chuckles spread around the room immediately.
I rolled my eyes so hard it physically hurt.
Daisy turned toward the girls around her dramatically. “Careful everyone, I heard she's from one of those omega clan schools. Which of course you can tell from the smell.”
That made Liam smirk against the chair he lounged in while one of the guys beside him barked out a loud laugh. Levi however finally looked up properly from whatever bored state he’d been trapped in and his gaze shifted toward me slowly, mildly interested now in the same way dangerous animals probably looked at something moving unexpectedly.
“Jealousy ages people badly, Daisy,” I smiled sweetly before walking further into the classroom.
Several students gasped softly under their breath while Daisy’s expression twitched. Honestly, if looks could kill I would’ve been ash in the wind already.
The classroom itself looked huge, almost like a university lecture hall with dark walls, long rows of desks and giant windows letting morning light spill across the room. Everything about this school screamed rich psychopaths with superiority complexes. Yay me.
Students slowly settled into their seats while conversations buzzed quietly around me. I could feel eyes following every move I made and it took everything in me not to sigh dramatically.
Ignore them, Star.
Can't wait to go home and give mum and earful of this mediocrity.
I moved toward an empty seat near the front row instantly because unlike these back-bench jungle animals, I actually liked paying attention in class. I’d always preferred the front; less distraction, easier focus and honestly? It made teachers unconsciously like you more. Proven fact.
I reached the desk and was literally about to sit when suddenly someone slid into the chair before me.
I blinked.
The brunette girl from earlier looked up at me with a fake innocent smile plastered across her face. “This seat is already taken.”
My jaw twitched slightly. “Oh wow,” I muttered dryly. “Congratulations on discovering chairs.”
A few snickers sounded around us while the girl’s smile faltered a little. I didn’t even bother arguing because honestly she wasn’t important enough for me to waste energy on.
I turned toward another empty seat two rows ahead only for the red-haired girl to quickly drop into that one too.
“Oops, I'm really sorry. Our class really has no room for tramps,” she mocked proudly like she’d just cured cancer.
I stared at her for a long second.
“Do you people rehearse these lines together at sleepovers or does stupidity just come naturally?” Someone near the windows choked trying not to laugh.
The redhead glared while Daisy looked seconds away from exploding.
I didn’t bother trying the next seat because both Daisy and the black-haired Barbie beside her were literally standing alert already waiting for me to approach like territorial chihuahuas guarding a sidewalk.
Pathetic.
Then I heard Imogen’s voice from the back.
“Star,” she waved carefully. “You can sit here.”
Relief hit me instantly and I started walking toward her seat near the middle-back row. The second Daisy realized where I was heading her eyes narrowed dangerously before she suddenly moved too.
Oh for fuck’s sake.
She practically rushed toward the empty seat beside Imogen before I could get there. Honestly the desperation was embarrassing.
“Sorry,” Daisy smirked while dragging the chair out. “Looks like this seat’s ta—”
I pushed her with not much force but apparently enough for her balance to betray her because Daisy stumbled backward completely off guard and landed right on her ass.
The classroom froze for exactly half a second before loud laughter exploded everywhere.
“Oh my God!”
“Did she just shove Daisy?”
“No fucking way.”
I blinked once while calmly pulling out the chair beside Imogen and sitting down elegantly like absolutely nothing had happened.
Honestly?
Maybe I should’ve felt bad.
But the image of Daisy Vale flat on the floor like a defeated Disney villain was way too satisfying.
The laughter only got louder when one of the boys snorted so hard he nearly fell off his desk. Daisy’s face turned bright red instantly while her friends rushed toward her in horror.
“Daisy!”
“Are you okay?!”
“You bitch! Do you have any idea who you've just crossed!” the redhead snapped at me. I crossed my legs calmly and adjusted my skirt slightly. “Maybe she should learn how to walk.”
The room collectively lost it again.
Even Imogen beside me looked seconds away from dying trying not to laugh out loud. Her shoulders shook while she hid her mouth behind her notebook.
Daisy got back up quickly, absolutely furious now. Her blonde hair looked slightly messy and the murderous glare she shot me honestly could’ve burned buildings down.
“You psycho—” She lunged toward me but before she could fully reach the desk the classroom door suddenly opened.
Silence crashed down instantly. Every single student sat upright so fast it looked rehearsed.
A man walked in carrying several files beneath one arm and the energy shift in the room became immediate. Even Daisy froze halfway through trying to attack me.
Mr. Fez.
