Chapter 4 Chapter Four
Axel's POV
“Welcome to Magic Academy, what race of supernatural being are you?” A firm yet soothing voice rang out.
The breath I didn't realize I was holding escaped through my nostrils as I slowly began to stretch out from my fetal position. My eyes widened in shock as I stilled on the spot.
Silence. Then there was a burst of vitality through me, as if I escaped the clutches of death.
“What race of supernatural being are you?” The voice repeated.
“Where am I?” I stuttered, feeling my throat constrict.
“The Magic Academy, are you alright?”
Inhaling sharply, I stared at my hands and examined my body, the marks and bloody scratches from my kerfuffle and encounter with Amelia and her men were still there yet, the environment was different.
My eyes darted to the environment around me, all I could see was vegetation all around. Silverwood trees stretched towards the sky with their glowing leaves that looked like it whispers secrets whenever the winds passed through them.
Blooming moonlit flowers that looks like they only opened after sunset while vines curled around stone archways which takes are only seen in ancient scrolls. Beneath me was soft emerald moss that covers the ground like velvet, a contrast to the dry and harsh rocky lands back at the pack that were soaked wirh blood.
Every breath I took had a healing effect as I felt the pain slowly dissipating, replacing the pain that wrapped my skin like crashing waves.
“How did I get here?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
“How did you get here? Please tell me that's a joke. You got here the same way everyone else got here, you activated your keepsake.”
“My keepsake?” I asked, curiously.
He stared at me, like he was waiting for me to snap out of the trance I was in but I only got more confused then I got a flashback of what had happened. I was at the point of death when I clutched my mother's necklace in my palm, thinking I would finally be with her right before a light shone around and I got transported here.
“Yes, your keepsake. I am Grey and I'm the Academy's representative, I'm here to welcome you and show you to your dormitories. You're one of the latecomers and you're in luck to have met me this early.” Grey introduced, a cheerful smile plastered on his face.
“Oh. Grey.” I intoned then forced a smile.
“Let's proceed to get you sorted first then you'll know which dormitory you'll be assigned to.” Grey explained then began to walk away.
I followed him at a great distance, still wary of my surroundings. I still couldn't make complete sense of what was happening but it was safer to play along. We walked in silence for a while before arriving at a huge building, bigger than Alpha Kaid's house at the packhouse.
“Wow.” I exclaimed, in awe.
“Let's go in, it's getting late.” Grey urged me.
I could only stare, stupefied by the magnificence of the building. The floor was tiled with marbles and the walls stretched far, the ceiling was sky high and I almost sprained my neck looking up.
“We're here.” Grey announced and I almost bumped into him.
I blinked back severally, in front of us was a fountain suspended in midair, the water poured in from statue heads of beasts and not even a drop spilled over, the water has a crystal-like glimmer to it and when I peered in, my reflection didn't stare back at me.
“Let a drop of ypur blood into the water and whatever color surfaces will determine your fate.” Grey instructed.
Before I could react, I felt an invisible blade slice through my thumb followed by a numb pain, blood began to ooze from my thumb and I let it drip into the fountain. The water bubbled for a split second then a bright gray color shot out of it like a ray of light then it dissipated into the air almost as soon as it appeared.
“So what does that signify?” I turned to Grey and asked.
“It's grey.” He breathed.
“I know, kinda like your name don't you think?” I joked lightly, trying to ease the tension building inside of me.
He sighed and the next second, his grave expression was replaced by a flashy smile. He chuckled then threw a slight punch at my shoulder.
“You're half human, half werewolf, what we infamously call a half-blood. We don't get that a lot, that's new.” Grey said, almost in disbelief.
“I'm human?” I asked, puzzled.
“It turned grey so you're a werewolf, not the strongest in the hierarchy but who would question the moon goddess for choosing to endorse an omega to the Magic Academy, let me show you to your dormitory.”
With that, Grey took a slight detour and continued moving like the whole sorting fiasco didn't happen. My thoughts were occupied with the rather confusing statement of his, I've long known that I'm an Omega but him pointing out that I'm the weakest, almost like a phenomenon that shouldn't have existed, was a slap to my face.
“Four were-folks are to share a room in each dormitory, when you rise in rank or power, you'll move to an entirely different section of the dormitory.” Grey informed me.
“What do you mean when you call me a half human? I'm a werewolf?” I blurted, letting my inquisitive intrusive thoughts out.
Grey halted and simply turned his head sideways to answer me. “The sorting fountain is never wrong, grey can only mean you're half human, half werewolf. We don't get that often here, you're a half-blood, not purebred.”
I pursued my lips, holding back from arguing further.
“Find the room with WN14 inscribed on it, find an empty bunk and make yourself comfortable. Dinner will be served at the main hall, tag along with those around you and you won't get lost. I need to get going since I have to welcome other newcomers, don't get into any trouble, newbie.” Grey informed me and without warning, he sauntered away.
I stood rooted on a spot for a full minute before moving, the dormitory had this long corridor that stretched even further and I just focused on finding the WN14 room.
‘WN10, WN11, WN1-’ My words trailed off as I felt my body crash into something.
I staggered a few steps backwards and winced in pain, trying to figure out what had just happened.
“What the hell do you think you're doing?” A voice thundered, and in response, my body froze.
Shakily, I looked up to see a powerful frame tower above me, his dark steady gaze lingered a second too long on me and his furrowed eyebrows made his grim expression more obvious.
“I'm sorr-” my words were interrupted by the eroding scent of musk and bergamot with a hint of spice and cedarwood pine. It paralyzed my senses and made my hands numb.
“What are you staring at, bonehead?” The figure growled again.
His masculine scent clung to him like flesh and for a split second, his iris faltered, as if he felt the overwhelming attraction that spiraled inside of me. I felt a low growl in my head, mumbled words inaudible to make out of.
I snapped out of it and nervously cleared my throat. “Sorry, I was looking for my room.”
His dark gaze shot daggers at me. “Are you trying to annoy me?”
“Do you want me to teach him a lesson? Looks like one of the newcomers who don't know their place around here.” A sharp unforgiving voice volunteered.
I finally realized and noticed that the savory stranger was in fact not alone. He was standing in the midst of at least half a dozen others like him, not as frightening as he was but they were also scary. It looked like they were a pack and he was the leader.
“It was a mistake, I'm sorry.” I apologized, truthfully but he snickered.
“Looks like I'll have to break your bones as correction so you don't make the same mistakes ever again.” He threatened but the murderous look in his eyes made me almost piss my pants.
“Alpha Kai!” Grey's voice rang out and I couldn't be more relieved to see him.
