Chapter 5 Chapter Five
Axel's POV
“Grey.” The scary looking pack leader grimly hissed.
Grey chuckled softly and stepped right in front of me. “Alpha Kai, let it slide please, he's a newcomers and doesn't know the rules here.”
Kai snickered. “I guess he'd have to learn the hard way.”
I gulped in nervously, there was something about his tone that fascinated and scared me at the same time.
‘Delicious.’ My wolf whispered in my head.
“Shut up!.” I chastised but failed to remember that I wasn't alone so I had spoken out loud.
Grey was lightly shoved away revealing the scary figure in front of me. Kai. That's his name and Grey called him Alpha.
“What did you just say to me?” He asked, calmly but his voice was dangerous enough to overturn mountains.
“Sorry, I wasn't referring to you, I just had a-”
“You should think before speaking.” He interjected.
Our gazes locked and I didn't dare look away, couldn't look away. Behind the hellfire dancing in his iris was a calm…
“Alpha Kai, I apologize on his behalf and guarantee this will never happen again.” Grey's voice boomed.
Kai inhaled sharply and finally tore his gaze away from me then took a step backwards. “I'll take your word for it Grey.”
Grey quickly grabbed my arm and I needed no soothsayer to know he meant we should leave.
“I'm really sorry Alph-”
“Save your apologies, you'll need them, omega.” Kai interrupted, every word carrying a subtle hint of mockery.
“How did you kno-”
Grey tugged at my arm and literally hurried me away. It wasn't until we were at a safe distance away from Kai that he spoke.
“That was Kai, he's so far the strongest werewolf to have existed and there's rumors of a prophecy that he will be tbe greatest alpha and warlock in history.” Grey explained, lowering his voice as if afraid someone would hear him.
“Really? That’s how infamous he is? How do you even know he's the strongest?”
Grey laughed softly and halted in front of a door. “You really are that naive aren't you? Only the strongest and most special get to attend this Academy, everyone you meet here is the best of their packs and race.”
“Really?”
“Here's your room newcomer, try not to cause any trouble. I'd steer clear of Alpha Kai and his pack if I were you, here; the weak is tossed away and no one would care.” Grey advised.
I nodded lightly. “How did he know I'm an omega?” I blurted, curious.
Grey simply shrugged. “I guess he didn't just earn the title of strongest and most dangerous werewolf, he lives up to it. Come down for dinner when it's time and if you need anything, don't hesitate to inform me.”
Before I could thank him, he turned on his heels and walked away. I inhaled sharply and emotionally caressed my keepsake. The door suddenly open ajar and a rather overly enthusiastic male almost hit me in the face.
“Are you the new wolf we are to share a room with?” He asked.
I nodded my head, trying not to flinch.
“Good, come inside.”
“Thank yo-”
I yelped as he grabbed my arm and yanked me inside, slamming the door shut behind us. Before I could even speak he was up on my face, grinning too widely.
“Hi, I'm Alex and I'm the alpha of Bloodhound pack, I got here like a month ago and I'm so excited you're here.”
For a minute, I just stared at him because it all seems insane to me. “I'm Axel?”
“Nice to meet you Axel, I'll show you to your bunk and space.” He offered then took me to far corner of the room, there was decent bed there.
He kept talking, smiling and gesturing with his hands but I zoned out and kept thinking about this whole Academy thing that I didn't even know existed until now, the sorting fpuntain that indicates I'm half human and the dangerously attractive man who I strangely feel connected to.
Luckily, Alex had to attend to ‘something’ and left me alone, in peace. There was no one else in the room and I finally get to put the pieces of my shattered thoughts together and the priority was decrypting the mystery behind how I got to this place.
My peace was short-lived as Alex returned and in an obnoxiously loud voice alerted me that it was time to have dinner and though I turned down the offer, he insisted it wasn't optional so I followed him to the largest hall I've ever seen and stupefied is an understatement of my reaction to what iI saw.
The moment I walked through the swung open massive doors, the noise of overwhelming hundreds of conversations overlapping which created a constant hum of voices, laughter, argument and clinking cutlery plus what sounded like a celestial music.
The hall was enormous! Long rows of tables filled the hall and seated at them were creatures you'd only reaction about in books.
Creatures with scales that glowed along their skins, some with wings, an elemental shimmer of what looked like flowers shimmered around them. Much smaller creatures with wings zipped through the air above the tables like colorful sparks. I couldn't find words to describe the rest I saw.
“What in the goddess name am I staring at?” I asked myself rhetorically but Alex overheard me and decided to give an answer to it.
“Fairies, faes, witches, sirens, lycans, weredragons, werebeasts, wizards, merfolks, cyclops, vampires, giants, Olympians, Naga, Griffins, Dryads and of course our very own race; werewolves” Alex explained.
“Wow.” I marveled.
“C'mon, the food will get cold or worse, they'll be nothing left if the vashta nerada gets to them.” Axel hurried me.
“The vashta what now?” I asked, puzzled.
He grabbed us a seat among folks that had distinct werewolf scent and I relaxed.
“Vashta nerada, the shadows that melt the flesh. They hid in shadows and darkness and devour flesh.” Alex explained and I was horrified at how casually he was talking about such scary things.
Alex pulled a tray towards us, it contained a full roasted chicken, some slimy green stuff that looks like mashed avocado, tiny cups that contains different colored jelly-like substance and other things I can't identify. Alex offered me one of the jelly-like thing.
“Here, it's an enchanted fruit, looks gooey but it tastes delicious.
I reluctantly accepted it and took a little bit and true to his words, my taste buds lit up with pleasure, it tasted perfect.
My stomach growled and I began to devour the rest of the meal, though it didn't look visually appealing, it tasted heavenly. Alex kept explaining some of the races to me, their strength, weakness and who to avoid.
My eyes fell on a familiar figure just across our table, at the far edge of the hall. A pair of scary intimidating eyes stared back at me and I felt my stomach churn.
“Fight at the ruins of megdalia, Morpheus and Kai!” A loud voice announced and the whole hall went into a frenzy.
Alex grabbed my arm, he was already up on his feet and dragging me towards the direction the rest of the people were headed.
“What's happening?” I asked Alex, while we were in motion.
“A fight is happening at the ruins of megdalia, you don't want to miss it.” He answered, excitedly.
I just went with the flow and we arrived at a place that looked like a great war had happened there and left it in ruins, there were hundreds of steps and platforms around and it was as if everyone had gathered around for a great spectacle.
“Who are the two people fighting?” I asked curiously and soon got my answer as I saw Kai stepped into a paved area in the ruins and someone else stood there, arrogantly gloating.
“That's Morpheus, the dragon king. He's the strongest among the dragons and he's not only arrogant but condescending.” Alex said, pointing at Kai's opponents.
“Wow.”
“Thats Alpha Kai, he's the strongest person to have ever existed, rumors says he's the reincarnation of a warlord and his wolf is said to be extinct and rare. He's the most feared person in this Academy. He's aloof, cold, ruthless and scary. No one dares to hurt him. He's so strong he killed a hundred wild wolves with his bare hands when he was just nine years old. Even his father is scared of him, no one has ever landed a blow on him in a fight, he's also said to defeat all of his opponents in less than ten moves.” Alex explained fully but I felt he was exaggerating his words.
Kai sure has a strong aura but being able to defeat everyone in less than ten moves? I doubt it. Morpheus revealed his flaming sword and I felt my heartbeat skyrocket.
Kai wasn't the least moved, he looked at my direction and I could swear I saw him smirk at me. He sure had a compelling presence and I was about to find out just how compelling it was.
