Chapter 6 Chapter Six
Kai's POV
“Show yourself, I know you're watching me.” I advised the moment I stepped into the ruins of megdalia; a place that consists of ruins that has relaxing properties but plays a trick on the mind if one isn't mentally resistant to manipulation.
Someone was in the shadows, stealthily watching me and I had sensed it so I decided to lure whoever is brave enough to tail me into the ruins of megdalia.
“Nothing really gets past you uhn?”
“Grey.” I spat, as he stepped into the light.
“Alpha Kai.” He greeted, politely bowing his head.
“Skip the honorifics, what do you want? I don't particularly enjoy being followed.” I snapped, impatiently.
“I'm here to apologize for the young wolf's mistake, please don't make things hard for him.”
“The half human?” I guffawed.
I could see Grey's shoulder tense, it's his responsibility to oversee the newcomers since he's appointed as the Academy's representative but I detest such unimportant titles and tasks.
“I see news travel fast.”
“Don't spoil my mood Grey.” I warned him, plainly.
“He'll steer clear of you and learn.” He promised.
“How is that any of my business Alpha Grey?” I asked, mockingly.
“Your subordinates are known to not let things slide, especially if it annoys you.” Grey hinted, his voice polite and measured.
“This isn't the place for the weak, what they chose to do with him is none of my business and you shouldn't interfere as well.” I cautioned.
His tensed shoulders went stiff and he forced a smile. “Understood.”
After he left, I clenched my fists tightly and but down on my lower lip. I still can't get the wimp out of my head, the moment he bumped into me I perceived a scent I refuse to acknowledge and subdued my wolf from reacting to it.
The only reaction it deserves is disdain and disgust which I didn't hesitate to show. My grumbling stomach compelled me to the dining hall; usually I'd eat in my own room but I decided to check out the dining hall that evening, who knows what little pup I'll encounter.
All sorts of supernatural roamed the dining hall freely, each making way to his or her own kind to mingle. I found a decent corner and sat, focused on my food and of course my pack quickly surrounded me, ensuring I was at a loss for nothing. The food tasted bland as usual and I began to regret wasting my time until a damp pine scent hit my nostrils.
I looked up to see the clumsy fool who had bumped into me earlier walk in with Alex; the noisy Alpha who thinks everyone is his friend. He looked bewildered to see everyone and I couldn't tell if he was simply fascinated or at the verge of passing out.
“Alpha, that's the fool that bumped into you, do you want us to give him a warm welcome?” Sidney, a powerful beta suggested.
I waved it off lazily. “Leave him, Grey thinks he's fragile, don't waste your time.”
“But-”
I shot him a death glare and he kept shut. I kept eating, cursing the internal conflict I was facing; my wolf stirred, not for killing intent or murder but an emotion I have long denied its existence; desire and it was pointed towards the new fool.
“Do you still want to spar with Morpheus? He sent his right hand man to ask.” Sidney reminded me.
I snickered in derision. Morpheus; the strongest weredragon challenged me to a duel because I wouldn't let him look down on werewolves. “Let me finish eating this bland excuse of a meal, I'll meet him at the Rune Arena”
Sidney passed across the message and I threw a handful of grapes into my mouth and chewed angrily then I stood up to go to the Rune Arena.
“If it isn't the werewolf alpha.” Morpheus said in a dry amused tone as he set eyes on me.
“You really thought of that one didn't you?” I flatly retorted, a mocking smirk curving on my lips.
He gritted his teeth and whipped out his signature long sword.
“You're going down Kai, your arrogance ends here today.” He growled as he took a few steps backwards, getting into a fighting stance.
“For how long did you practice that in front of a mirror?” I scoffed.
He lunged forwards, blinded by rage and hate, sword in hand. He exhaled slowly as dark scales crawled up the sides of his neck, jagged black horns pushed through his overflowing blue hair, curving backward from gua temples, white smoke escaped from his nostrils with every breath and his golden eyes began to glow like fire trapped behind glass.
‘Dramatic.’ I remarked, unimpressed.
He moved like a comet with his sword blazing as flames spiraled around the blade, he struck with enough force to cleave a building into half but I didn't move, not even an inch. The sword slammed directly against my shoulder as he was aiming for my neck but I chuckled as if amused and lifted it off my shoulder, his golden eyes began to glow with disbelief.
A shockwave rippled through the area, leaving a little tornado in its wake, violently. I sighed, unimpressed and almost bored, he tried to push his sword deeper but I grabbed the flaming blade with my bare palm then looked him dead in the eye, a glint of mockery flashing across my eyes.
“You're making this embarrassingly easy.” I said, sounding amused.
Crack. A sharp fracture split across the sword and before Morpheus could react, I applied a little more pressure and the sword snapped into two.
“How?” Morpheus gasped, his glowing eyes finally dimmed.
“My turn.” I smirked and punched him in the gut, which sent him flying a few meters away.
I defeated him in less than ten moves and he was rooted to a spot, bent over and vomiting blood. With each step I took, I could see the dread in his eyes. The place was as quiet as a graveyard, no one dared to move an inch.
As I moved closer, few of his weredragons blocked the road, their shoulders tensed as they tried to hide their evident fear.
“You can't hurt him anymore. We concede and accept defeat.” Elliot cried out.
I lifted an eyebrow and snickered. “I have no intentions of killing him, sparring isn't against the rules but murder is. I hope you never show your face in the future.” I warned, calmly.
“We apologize.”
I shoved them both aside and continued towards Morpheus, I halted just a few steps away from him.
“I expected disappointment but wow.” I mocked him then turned around and began to walk away.
Sidney and the others trailed behind me and I perceived a familiar scent, I looked up to see the dumb weakling standing by Alex, they looked shocked at what was happening. “I have something to attend to, I'll catch up with you later.” I informed the others and smiled as a wicked plan formed in my head.
Everyone was now leaving the arena since the show was over and they avoided me, or anyone related to me. I caught up to Alex.
“Alex!” I called out.
He turned around, slowly and scared. The nutcase beside him tensed up seeing it was me.
“Alpha Kai.” Alex called out, humbly.
“What's your name?” I asked, pointing to the pathetic excuse of a savory scent my wolf was reacting to.
He paused for a split second and blinked severally. “Axel.”
“Axel.” I repeated.
‘Such a powerful name.’ My wolf remarked but I pretended not to hear.
“Axel, did you watch everything that happened here?” I asked, knowingly.
“Yes, I did.”
“Good, Morpheus is the weredragon king and should be the strongest but I defeated him effortlessly as-”
“Yes, it was one shocking turn of events, I couldn't even keep up with the fight, that was awesome and you looked like a legend straight out of scrolls.” He interrupted me and commented.
My eyes slightly widened and I looked away swiftly to fight and hide a smile.
“Flattery won't do you any good, Axel, you're a weakling and shouldn't even be here. I understand almost all werewolves are under my protection but I don't wish to protect useless burdens like yourself so word of advice? Stay away from me, I'm scarier than your nightmares.” I warned him, the threat sat quietly beneath my words.
I didn't wait to see his reaction, I turned around and walked away, towards my dormitory. Halfway there, I changed my mind and headed to the Obsidian mountains; a place where I chose to train and sometimes meditate.
As much as it seems like I shattered Morpheus' sword like it was twig, it took more core energy than usual and I feel completely depleted. I needed to rest and recuperate though it posed no real threat, I'll deal with the new weakling who has an obvious effect on my wolf.
“Come on out Eryx.” I ordered my wolf.
A swift wind of energy pulsating through me as Eryx materialized in front of me. Though it's an ancient lost art, I have been able to separate my wolf and I as separate entities and still control both, merging when I want to. No one else knows because it'll attract unwanted attraction and it weakens my defenses.
“Kai.” Eryx called out.
Instead of a wolf covered with furs and sharp claws, Eryx looks exactly like me; humanoid. One of the perks of ancient art.
“Keep guard, I need to recuperate.” I ordered him, he began to say something but I sealed his lips off. I needed absolute silence.
