Chapter 54

Third Person POV

Gabriel finally gave Olivia her space and time to think. However, his condition to letting both women be alone was that there had to be personal bodyguards wherever they went. This was something that Olivia was not okay with, but she felt if she gave Gabríel some reassurance, he might ease up. When she and Celine finally moved into the apartment complex, Olivia felt freedom and relief that she had not felt in a while.

While Olivia was at the hospital, she tried her hardest to avoid Eugene, since he spread rumors about her personal affairs. She knew that friendship was not enough for him, but her priorities lied with her brother’s recovers and even Mara’s. As she made her way to Reese’s room, she saw Alpha Herold sitting in the waiting room.

This should be good.

“Good morning Queen Luna,” Alpha Herold said, bowing his head.

“Herold, is there a reason why you are lingering around?” Olivia said. She noticed when Herold looked around before he talked with her.

“I think you and I need to talk more about the liquid that was found.”

Olivia motioned for him to follow her down to the cafeteria of the hospital. Even though she wanted to avoid all of the Alpha’s in her life, she could not turn a blind eye if Herold had information.

“So I see you and the King Alpha made up,” Herold said with a growl. However, Olivia raised her hand to sto[p him any further.

“My relationship with my mate is none of your concern. Alpha Herold. I am here to discuss whether or not you have found new information.” Olivia said.

She was truly tired of the men around her, believing that she was theirs to control. She was her own person and she would be damned if she let another man result in her destruction.

Never again.

“My apologies,” Herold said, lowering his gaze. He paused for a moment and reached into his pockets. He pulled out a vial that was identical to the one that she found after the attack.

“Where did you find it?” Olivia whispered.

“I found it in between the floorboards. It must have fallen through one of the crack when Alicia was still living in the pack house.”

Olivia felt both wolves inside her, growling in anger and satisfaction. She finally had proof that Alicia was the culprit of poisoning young wolves. She just had to make sure that everyone believed her.

“What is this now?” Olivia heard a growl behind her. She did not have to turn around to see that it was her mate and king standing behind them. His arms were crossed, and he was angry the with display that he saw.

Olivia stood up, but not before grabbing the vials from Herold’s fingertips.

“Before you get upset, my love, look at these.” She showed both vials to her mate.

“And what am I looking at?”

“This is the vial that I found after Eugene and I were attacked by rogues.” Olivia said as she placed that vial in his left hand.

“This vial Alpha Herold found in his pack house, after Alicia was kicked out. It may have been hidden in the floorboard.” The other vial she placed in his right hand.

The Alpha King examined both vials and saw that both vials were the same. “So what to you purpose?” Gabriel said, looking at his mate nad the other alpha trying to win her favor.

“That is not all,” Olivia said sheepishly. She took a step forward and took a deep breath.

She exhaled and continued. “A few days ago I was given my coffee by a nurse…when I took a swig, I found a rather peculiar taste and smell to it. IT was almost metallic.”

She did not see Herold’s face, but as she saw Gabriel’s, there was a mix of emotions. Anger. Shock. Fear. Rage.

“Are you telling me that someone tried to poison you? And you said nothing about the matter. Why?”

“Because if I had said anything you would have called it a vendetta against Alicia. You would have thought I was fabricating the story. I needed proof to make sure.”

“We need to make sure that these vials are what you claim they are and make sure they match each other down to the smell.” Gabriel said as he walked away. Olivia quickly followed behind. She did not make sure if Herold was behind them or if he stayed behind.

As they walked down the halls, they spotted Eugene. When Gabriel called the doctor over, Olivia felt a small bit of resentment towards him. The events of his betrayal were still fresh on Olivia’s mind.

“Eugene, is there a way to test these two vials and see what they contain?” Gabriel asked as he presented both of the vials containing the cloudy liquid to the doctor.

When Eugene took hold of the vials, he quickly examined them. I put each one of them in a separate pocket. Olivia guess that it was to make sure that the vials would not get damaged.

“The Royal Hospital has a facility that examines everything from blood to different types of liquids for medicine. I can use the facility to run the test. But may I enquire to what the vials may contain?”

Olivia stepped forward, gathering her strength. “We believe that there might by the sources to what is poisoning the young wolves. Each vial was found in locations that wolves were injured or links to the culprit.”

Olivia left out Alicia’s name because she did not know who may have been listening in. Gabriel understood her method and humbly agree to his mate’s request.

“Eugene, make sure that it is done as soon ap possible.”

Eugene bowed his head to both his king and queen. “You have my word that you will be the first ones that I call when I have the results.”

Eugene quickly tried to mindlink with Olivia. however she shut him out completely.

After everything that he had downed, she was not ready to forgive him just yet.

As they were leaving the hospital, Gabriel pulled Olivia off to the side and pulled her in for a kiss. As they pulled away for air, he reached and grabbed her hands, kissing both of her knuckles.

“My love, can you forgive me for not believing you?” Gabriel said. Olivia could see in hope and sadness in his eyes.

“I can understand why you were upset, and you were right. Since my friend Olivia’s passing, I have thrown myself against everything and everyone. But I do forgive you for being patient with me and acknowledging that this could be the source of what’s poisoning our people.”

After a short car ride, Gabriel walked Olivia back to her apartment. Gabriel had voiced his concern with her staying her alone again, especially since someone had attempted to poison her. He expressed that they might try again if she let her guard down.

But Olivia was adamant she want to stay with Celine. The further she was away from Gabriel, made it clear that she favored her freedom over the love of any man.
