Chapter 5 The Super Strong Girl
Nami inhaled and exhaled several times, unaware that she would be far more nervous than she anticipated. Since graduating from high school last year, she had tried many jobs, but she always felt confident. Even during numerous auditions, she hadn't felt anxious. However, the decision to become a Yeager soldier, meaning she would have to dedicate her body and soul to protecting humanity, was a huge challenge.
"Aaagh...what should I do? What if I end up being a troublemaker instead of a protector of humanity?" Her mind screamed and she began to feel tremors all over her body. In her hands was a neatly written application form that she had to hand over to the officer waiting at the registration desk.
Unexpectedly, there were quite a few people interested in joining. She hadn't realized there were so many people who wanted to be heroes.
"Can we help you, Miss?" Asked a man in a military uniform with a sword and shield logo on his left chest.
"I-I want to submit an application form!"
"Do you want to join the special forces?"
"Special forces?"
"Yeager forces are called special forces because they're trained to fight monsters."
"Do monsters really exist?"
"If you're curious about whether they really exist, I guess you'll have to see for yourself once you join."
"But how can humans fight monsters? Can they be killed by ordinary weapons?"
"Of course not! The weapons prepared to fight them are no ordinary weapons, they're all specially designed after years of experience. When they first appeared, bombs and ordinary swords were still usable, but as time went on, the monsters became stronger and more difficult to kill with ordinary weapons. That's why Professor Levi Sanders created weapons no one had ever imagined, and each force generally uses a different type of weapon according to their abilities and talents. So, Miss, are you sure you want to join?"
"I-I-"
"If you're in doubt, you should just retreat. Female soldiers die more often on the battlefield, becoming nothing more than a burden. If you value your life, you should just retreat. Monsters can shoot fire from their mouths, so you can't expect anyone to save you!" The man said with a clearly dismissive expression and tone.
"Tch, old Man, are you underestimating me?" An irritated Nami immediately grabbed the man's neck. He was surprised because Nami could even lift him easily just by grabbing his neck.
"L-Let go of me...! Cough..."
"Listen to me! I'm not afraid of monsters or whatever! I'll kill 10 of them and chop them up before serving them to you, do you understand?"
Nami released her grip and dropped the man to the floor. Everyone looked at her in horror, as she clearly looked strong after calling out his bluff. She walked to the registration desk with an annoyed expression.
"C-can we help you?"
"I want to enlist as a soldier and get a free lunch!"
"Y-yes, Miss!"
"Idiot, what did I do? I never thought that bald guy would be one of the mentors at the academy. Damn, does that mean he'll be my trainer during my time at the academy?"
Nami scratched her head in frustration. She hadn't expected the man she'd strangled and dropped to the floor to be one of the teachers or trainers of the prospective soldiers. After she realized this, the man continued to glare at her, making her hold her breath.
Her stomach growled, remembering that she'd skipped lunch today because she had to deal with that man at the academy. Before she could become a soldier, she'd already made a fatal mistake. It made her despair, and she thought that there was no bright future for her if she continued to become a soldier.
"I'm so hungry, how much money do I have?" She thought to herself as she took her wallet from her jacket pocket.
She checked her wallet, there were only two bills and enough change to buy a portion of French fries sprinkled with salt.
"Is this all I have left? Seriously? Wait, should I just borrow money from Levi? No, no, I can't show my face in front of him right now. Besides, I've already asked him for too much. But, I want to eat at this restaurant." Nami looked at the food models in the glass display case in front of the restaurant. They looked very tempting.
"Wow, those shrimp are so big, they must be delicious! The steak too, is that wagyu beef? I want to eat that!" She continued to stare at the imitation food through the glass like a hungry vagrant.
Beep...beep...
So focused on her daydreams, Nami didn't notice a luxury car honking at her because she was obstructing the traffic.
"What's wrong with this girl? Can't she hear?" Asked a young man sitting in the passenger seat.
"Excuse me, Your Highness. I'll try to get out and tell her to move!" Said the driver.
"I told you earlier, I'll just ride my motorcycle!"
"Excuse me, Your Highness, but it was Her Majesty the Queen who asked me to accompany you today!"
The young man sitting in the passenger seat could only remain silent and let the driver take care of everything. Besides, it was only natural that he wouldn't be traveling alone.
Meanwhile, Nami, still focused on the food samples displayed in the window, didn't notice that her wallet wasn't securely closed and her precious 50 cent coin had fallen out of her wallet and rolled onto the road.
"Oh no, my money...!" Realizing she was about to lose it, Nami immediately chased after it, as it continued to roll under the black luxury car that had been honking its horn for the past three minutes.
Beep...Beep...
The driver honked again, but instead of moving out of the way as they had hoped, Nami approached the car and crouched under the undercarriage as if searching for something.
"Tch, what's wrong with that girl?" The young man reacted immediately. He didn't understand why this strange woman was acting like a hungry vagrant. He opened the car door and got out to tell her to move out of the way.
"Y-Your Highness?"
"Never mind, let me handle it!"
"But Your Highness—"
"Hey Miss, what are you doing to my car?" He asked the panicked young woman before him.
"C-can you move your car a bit? My money rolled down there! I can't reach it!" She said, reaching out to grab her precious 50 cent coin.
"I've been asking you to move away! Don't you have any ears?"
"My money...!" Nami, desperate, lifted the car with one hand so she could reach the coin with the other.
"Huh? W-what the hell is that?" The young man, his driver, and everyone around them were stunned to see how she lifted the car as if she were lifting a bowl.
After getting her money back, Nami dropped the car and kissed her dust-covered coin.
"My precious money, let's go buy instant noodles!" She said as she walked away cheerfully, as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, everyone who witnessed her crazy act of lifting the car with one hand remained motionless and didn't move an inch. They still couldn't believe what they had just seen. Especially this young man.
"Y-Your Highness, that young woman—"
"That's crazy! She scratched this car and just left! How irresponsible!"
"I've never seen someone so strong, Your Highness!"
"Come on, Damian! Let's go!"
"All right, Your Highness!"
