Chapter 4
At her new workplace, Daphne worked with SG Tech’s pre-sales manager Cade on the project and they hit it off immediately.
She had thought she’d have a hard time adjusting to this new environment but with just a few days here, she had a feeling that it wouldn’t be that hard.
Daphne arranged for Cade to prepare materials for a product demo in three days, Cade curiously asks if she's afraid of angering Trevor by joining a direct competitor as everyone was well aware she had to work at TM.
Daphne responded indifferently that Trevor won't care. After all, he was too busy with his first love.
Meanwhile, Trevor’s company TM was also bidding for the Ismark project. After Mabel took the project lead position, veteran employees remained silent in disapproval.
During a meeting, Daphne’s former assistant, Fay just couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“Since this is on everyone’s mind, including mine, I’d just say it. I don’t think this is fair, sir. I’ve watched Daphne worked hard on this. She had been following this project for three years. It’s not fair for someone else to take it away from her. We’re told she’s currently on vacation, is she supposed to come back and meet all these changes?”
Trevor rubbed his temple.
“What position are you again? Oh a secretary! What fucking right do you have to tell me what to do?! If you do not want to lose your job, hand over all the project materials to Mabel.”
Mabel quickly stood up, speaking in a sweet and calm tone.
“Let’s all please calm down. No one has to lose their jobs. I’m aware everyone confused as to the sudden change in position but there’s nothing to be confused about. I’m only temporarily taking over until Daphne’s back from her vacation…”
Trevor frowned. “But…”
Mabel eyed him, wanting him to play along. To appease everyone and stop them from whining, she believed she should lie to them first.
After a month, they’d get used to seeing her face and not ask about that damn Daphne anymore.
After the meeting, Fay angrily sent Daphne lots of messages, explaining the current situation at the company to her.
Daphne replied.
Daphne: I know the change might be surprising but you still have to do your job. I do not want you to get fired because of me. Your boss still has the final say. Take care of yourself, always.
With the tone of her message, Fay knew something big definitely happened and she felt sad to know that Daphne might not return to TM.
Mabel and Trevor were still at the conference hall even after everyone had left.
“You didn’t need to lie to them. You’re the Vice President and it’s going to stay that way!” Trevor let out.
“I know but we need to give them time to adjust and you shouldn’t be so harsh with them. Remember, they all play a vital role in their various departments.”
Trevor scoffed. “They can all be replaced for all I care.”
“Still, this people has been working for you for so long. You can’t just lay them off like this.”
Trevor rolled his eyes. “Fine. I’d just give them some grace but I’m firing anyone who talks shit about you. And you shouldn’t be too lenient with them as well, you need to make them understand that you’re above them.”
Mabel stood up and nodded. “I know.”
As she took another step, her heel bent but Trevor quickly caught her.
“Be careful.”
She smiled at him. “Thank you.”
Mabel gasped when he suddenly carried her into his arms.
“Trevor, we’re at the company.” She reminded.
“It doesn’t matter.” He replied with a smile as he carried her out of the conference hall and headed straight to his office.
The employees who saw them were wide-eyed with shock. Though they all had their suspicions about who this woman was to Trevor but seeing him act this brazenly was beyond them.
Though they knew he and Daphne had a thing together but Daphne and Trevor had always been professional at work.
Had their boss always been this shameless?
Trevor placed Mabel on the couch in his office and gently took off her heels.
“Does your feet hurt?”
Mabel pouted and pointed at her left leg.
“I think I sprained it just now.”
Trevor quickly stood to get the first aid kit and getting it, he recalled how it was organized by his Daphne.
This suddenly brought nostalgia and some memories of her tending to his wounds. He then recalled he was yet to talk to her about Mabel.
Daphne had always knew how much he loved Mabel so she’d understand. If she even behaves well, he might keep her as his mistress.
But that would be in total secrecy though. He didn’t want anything to come between him and Mabel again.
Trevor gently tended to Mabel’s foot and then she suddenly placed that foot on his crotch.
His eyes blazed with lust.
Meanwhile, Rex whose office was just a door away from Trevor’s was going over a document submitted by Kayla.
Kayla was currently waiting for him to give his approval when all of a sudden, they started hearing loud moaning sounds.
“You like that?!”
“Yes!…Ahh…Tre…Trevor…More…more.” Followed by creaking sounds and skin slapping skin.
Both stared at each other awkwardly and speechlessly.
Kayla wordlessly took the document and shakily left while Rex just sighed in disbelief.
Kayla didn’t know how to feel about this. She didn’t exactly like Daphne, she had always been jealous of Daphne because she felt Daphne was too perfect.
But it seemed Daphne wasn’t perfect enough to keep her man.
After fucking Mabel in his office, she retired to hers and Trevor finally tried to focus on work again.
He then recalled he still hasn’t had a proper conversation with Daphne.
He even told her to come to the company and submit that business trip report but she didn’t. Though she had told him about her vacation and he approved, but he knew she wasn’t traveling out of the city or something.
She had just requested time to stay with her mom and also prepared for the wedding. Since there was no wedding to prepare for, she ought to come by work.
Frowning, he sent her messages and as someone who was always quick to reply his texts, no reply came.
He tried calling her but all his calls went unanswered.
