Chapter 7
Daphne returned to the hospital to care for her mother, forcing herself to appear happy.
Her mother was still very fond of Kayla and so she couldn’t bring herself to tell her that Kayla wasn’t who they thought she was at all.
Also, she had to tell her mother about her failed relationship with Trevor. She wanted her to stop talking about Trevor. If she was ever going to move on from Trevor, she had to cut off everything about him.
Just as she approached her mother’s bed and held her hand, she noticed the hand was very hot and her mother seemed to be out of breath.
Quickly, she went to get the doctor. After the doctor’s examination. The doctor explained to her that her mother’s blood pressure had shot up but she was stable now.
Daphne sighed, heavily realizing she couldn’t tell her mother about Trevor yet.
But she’d have to know, eventually. She just had to be completely stable then.
By Friday, the temperature had plummeted. Danica noticed a note she had set on her phone a month earlier, reminding her to tell Trevor to watch his diet today to prevent a recurrence of his stomach condition.
Danica laughed wryly at herself and deleted all reminders related to Trevor.
Trevor who had Danica always take care of everything, including his health was clueless that he was supposed to watch his diet and so, his stomach condition flared up.
He tried calling Danica to know where she kept his pills but she didn’t pick up.
Feeling as if he was going to die, he shakily looked around his bedroom for it, he knew she always told him where it was and how many doses to take but he never paid attention.
He just thought she’d be always there to take care of him. After finally finding the medicine in his study, the dose to take became a problem.
He tried calling her again but it still didn’t connect.
What was her fucking problem?!
He was seriously sick right now.
Didn’t she care?
Why was she acting like this?
It felt like she was avoiding him.
Granted, she might have heard about Mabel but couldn’t she have reached out to him so he’d explain?
Shakily, he had to self-administer the pills and it took a long while before the pain began to lessen.
The following day, after the weekly project meeting at TM Technology, it was already past lunchtime.
Trevor’s stomach condition flared up, and the pain was so severe he couldn’t get up.
He missed how Daphne used to prepare a special kind of soup and stomach medicine for him in advance. If she had done that for him last night, he would have been feeling better already.
But she still won’t pick his calls. Or was she fully occupied with her mother? Could it be that her mother’s condition worsened?
But if that was the case, she would have contacted him, telling him she needed him there for emotional support or something.
Then again, Daphne had always been very capable. Maybe she could handle everything at the hospital by herself.
He himself was very busy at the moment and now, he had a stomach pain that won’t go away.
Sighing, he wished she could just pick his call once! Just once!
Trevor called his assistant, Rex into his office.
“Sir, are you okay? You look pale.” Rex let out, alarmed.
“Do you about the recipe for the soup Daphne used to make me whether I get a stomach upset?”
“I…I don’t know.”
“Do you at least know how she used to mix the medicine?!” Trevor barked, getting irritated.
“I…I think so…”
“Go get it now.”
Red quickly hurried off. He had seen Daphne mixed the medicine a couple of times so he knew the proper dosage of each.
After preparing it, Rex recalled how caring Daphne had been about Trevor.
Always going through his diets and always making sure the risks of him getting a stomach pain was low.
Rex sighed. How could his boss lose such a woman?
Perhaps Daphne might still care about him. Perhaps if he could get Daphne here, the boss would realize the big mistake he had made and then they’d get back together.
With that wishful thinking, Rex sent Daphne a message to let her know that Trevor’s stomach condition had flared up again, but he never received a reply from her.
Exhaling, he took the medicine to Trevor after Trevor quickly gulped it down.
As Rex was leaving, he nearly bumped into Mabel, who was just about to knock on the door.
Mabel came in to bring Trevor a spicy hot seafood boil.
Rex frowned.
Didn’t she know that the boss couldn’t eat spicy food and rarely even ate seafood?
Before he could speak, Mabel let out.
“Tre, I noticed you looking pale this morning, I think you’re hungry. Didn’t you have breakfast? Don’t worry, I bought the whole platter for you.”
Rex frowned.
How did she come to such conclusion?
“The boss can’t…”
“Rex, you can leave.” Trevor cut in.
Rex, a bit reluctant, had no choice but to leave.
“Come on, hon, I’ll feed you.” Mabel let out.
Trevor felt she was being thoughtful and so he couldn’t say no to her.
Although his stomach was still hurting ; he believed the medicine he had just taken would soon get into action and so he forced himself to eat the food Mabel fed him with.
But as he ate, it felt as if the pain was worsening so he bit out.
“I’m…I’m full.”
Mabel frowned. “Already?”
“Yeah.” He let out.
She smiled. “Okay then. You can keep it for later.” She gave him so water and wiped his lips while Trevor tried his best to endure the pain he was in.
“Are you free on Saturday? There’s this professor who’s friends with my parents, Professor Alistair Monroe, he’s having a party to celebrate his birthday, can you come with me. I also want to gauge his willingness to sell his patent.”
Trevor nodded. “I’ll go with you.”
After Mabel left, Trevor felt that Professor Alistair Monroe’s name sounded familiar.
Seeing the medicine box reminded him of Daphne, and then he recalled how, years ago, Daphne had always been raving about her admiration for Professor Alistair in his ear.
Pain surged through his stomach again and he rested his head on the table.
Fuck! He hadn’t felt this way in years.
What kind of magic did Daphne use to perform?
Just how was she doing it before?
He had to have her in his life somehow,
She was very good at taking care of everything, including him.
Especially him.
This stomach was killing him!
