Chapter 4

While Lucian was showering upstairs, I grabbed my old backpack and walked out of the villa.

No looking back, no tears.

I walked to the edge of the territory where a convoy of twelve black armored vehicles was already waiting.

Each car door bore a discreet silver crescent moon symbol.

Any werewolf who saw this symbol had to bow in respect.

Seeing me approach, dozens of wolf guards immediately stepped out of their vehicles and knelt on one knee:

"Welcome home, Your Highness."

I opened the car door and said calmly:

"Get up. To the airport."

The car started, leaving the Blackwood territory where I'd wandered for five years far behind.

Watching the villa grow smaller in the rearview mirror, a smile curved my lips.

Goodbye, Lucian.

These five years were your only chance in this lifetime to get close to the peak of power.

Too bad you traded it for an ordinary white wolf girl.

The next day, the entire Blackwood Tribe was celebrating Lucian's grand wedding.

Flowers covered the roads.

Lucian stood on the platform, receiving blessings from all the tribe members.

Sophia stood beside him, beautiful as a dream.

Halfway through the ceremony, Lucian glanced toward a corner of the crowd.

No one was there.

He frowned.

That strange feeling of irritation grew stronger inside him.

It was supposed to be a joyful day, so why was his wolf spirit restlessly agitated?

"What's wrong, darling?" Sophia asked with concern.

"Nothing." Lucian pushed down the discomfort. "Let's continue."

After the ceremony ended, Lucian returned to the villa.

Opening the door, he was greeted by the same empty living room as last night.

No lamp left on for him, no woman with a smile waiting to greet him.

"Audrey?"

He called out.

No answer.

He rushed upstairs and pushed open my bedroom door.

The room was spotless. The closet was empty, the dresser was empty.

Even the faint forest scent in the air that belonged to me had almost completely disappeared.

On the nightstand sat a villa key.

Next to it, held down by the key, was a note:

"Service completed, payment received in full, goodbye."
