Chapter 1 Chapter 1
Seraphina’s POV
“Mum, you forgot my belt.”
“And my own tie mum.”
Jace and Jared’s little voices cut through my thoughts, I blinked severally and my heavy eyelids opened up.
I let out a deep sigh. “Sleep deprivation is a crazy thing.”
“Mum!” They called out.
“You know the way to the wardrobe yourself.” I said slowly, my voice cracking.
They both exchanged glances and pouted,
“Please mum.” They echoed.
I let out a deep sigh, got up from my seat to search for their belt and tie. One of the servants walked past me at that moment. Unfortunately, I was too insignificant for her to notice.
I walked through the big hallway leading to my children’s room while I kept a mental note of my prepared activities for the day. I was about to turn a sharp corner when I heard whispers, my legs became weary and paused.
“…..that’s right, the only difference is she works in a nightrobe and not aprons like us.” a female voice echoed through.
“Lacked charisma cannot be bought even with status, we all know who fits better as Alpha’s….” Another one responded.
“Keep quiet, I can smell her closeby.” Another voice interjected.
Then came silence.
My left fist balled but I released it.
Isn’t it common knowledge in Ravencrest pack that the moon goddess had made a mistake, I didn’t fit being Luna or Damian’s mate, someone else did.
I dragged my unwilling feet and walked past the maids, they cowered, not that I cared.
I returned to the living room afterwards only to meet my children’s absence. Their lunch bags laid lazily on the table exactly where I left it.
“Jace! Jared!” I clutched my chest to stop my heavily pounding heart.
The door opened with a loud bang, the boys rushed in all smiles and there was a third—Selena, her arms wrapped around them.
“Mum, aunt Selena came with chocolates.” Jace screamed excitedly.
I rolled my eyes,
“Hi sister, it appears like you aren't so excited to see me.” She said with a charming smile.
“You didn’t tell me you will be coming over this morning.” I responded curtly.
“My apologies Seraphine, I thought sisterhood didn’t make me a visitor here.”
I forced a smile on my face as the four maids in the living room had their eyes on us,
“How was your night?” I said.
“Great, I had been quite worried about you, you look exhausted Seraphina, I just decided to check up on you.”
Before I could respond, she turned towards the maids and started making light jokes with them.
“The pack house seems abundantly pleasing, you ladies look ravishingly radiant… even more than your boss.”
They blushed while I watched.
“Alpha Damian is a generous leader.” One of them responded.
“You look great yourself Miss Selena, your skin as always is so flawless and stunning.” One of the maids praised her.
“And her graceful carriage is absolutely amazing.” Another added.
Selena laughed,
“Please stop flattering me, anyone would literally think I own this home whereas I am merely visiting.”
I stood there, invisible and speechless as always.
The door from the other end of the room dragged open and Damian walked in. His intimidating demeanor engulfed the room as usual and the maids silently returned to their duties. His brow creased together as he walked towards us.
“Why are you always sluggish with the kids' morning routine, aren’t they late for school already?” He said coldly without looking at me.
I didn’t respond,
“Alpha.” My sister’s voice called out softly.
Damian’s face drifted towards where she was, his countenance lightened up immediately.
“Oh! Selena, you are here, how are you today?”
“I am fine Alpha, don’t blame my sister for the kids, she looks so exhausted , it is normal for her to forget important stuff like the time, can I help?”
“It is fine Selena, you are all dressed up for work, I would have taken them myself but there is much to be done, it would be a pity if you get to work very late taking another person’s responsibility.” Damian responded playfully.
They both laughed.
“No Alpha Damian, I insist. My boss can survive one more hour of my absence.” Selena said.
“No, I will take them myself.” My crooked voice cuts in sharply.
The duo turned to look at me and so did my children including the maids.
“Why Seraphine? I am only trying to help you, afterall they are my pups just as much as they are yours.” Selena’s voice shook.
I was perplexed,
Had I said something abnormal?
“Isn’t your sister trying to help you?” Damian’s deep voice called out.
Our eyes met, there was no warmth in his, and mine—I was fighting back tears threatening to fall.
“I am sensing danger Damian, since the rogue attack from……”
“The scouts, patrol warriors, and every awakened wolf in this pack have already reported the roads are safe. Yet somehow you're the only one sensing danger, Seraphine?” Damian interrupted rudely.
“Something is off Damian, I have been feeling it since I woke up.” I said desperately, my voice a lot more elated.
Damian scoffed,
“It is common knowledge that werewolves sense danger through our wolves Seraphine,”
He lowered his voice and whispered,
"Since when did you have instincts stronger than actual wolves?"
My lips drew open and I bit it hard, instinctively I looked over at my sister who cleared her throat.
“On the contrary Alpha,” Selena cuts in “Seraphine’s human instinct is actually strong despite her .… inadequacy .What I mean is, she could actually ....”
My first tear dropped at that moment. I have never been this humiliated before .
Everyone in the Ravencrest pack knew I was wolfless but having my mate talk about it openly in a distasteful manner was disheartening. The maids all looked at me pitifully—the wolfless Luna
I crunched on the sofa, my eyes lingered on my children. They appear distressed .Dragging on with Damian would only make me more pathetic than everyone already thinks I am.
“Never mind Selena, go ahead with the kids, Seraphine’s intuition clearly needs more sleep.” Damian said nonchalantly.
“Okay Alpha, boys, sweet aunt is taking you to school today. Your mum needs to rest now.” Selena said sweetly to Jace and Jared.
The boys got up. They happily bid me farewell and followed Selena who looked so excited like she had just won a trophy.
I forced on a smile as I hugged my kids, and bid farewell.
After their departure, I quietly returned to my room ignoring the maids' stares. Damian had left the pack house too. I spent the next hours doing everything I hate to subdue my anger. After taking my bath, I skipped breakfast while I was stuck in kitchen rearrangement.
None of the maids offered to help and I didn’t instruct them to,
A wolfless high born woman, an abomination of the pack, who unfortunately turned out as the impending Alpha’s fated mate, that was the top list gossip six years ago when Damian and I got married.
I was cleaning the oven pans when my phone rang. I got up on my feet and removed one of my hand gloves. The phone number was unfamiliar but I picked it up instantly.
“Hello.”
“Hello Mrs Ravenclaw, I am a member of the Alpha Patrol team, we have been trying to reach the Alpha, his number isn’t going through.”
“Is anything wrong?” I questioned immediately. Not that I know where Damian could be.
A short silence followed,
“Actually w
e found an abandoned car on the road leading to the academy .” He said.
“Be more precise” I bellowed, getting frustrated.
“Mrs Ravencrest, my apologies, it was your sister, Miss Selena’s car,” he paused slightly,
“... there has been a rogue attack and your children are missing Luna.”
