Chapter 2 Chapter 2
Seraphine’s POV
I blew my nose through the car window. The driver looked at me from the side mirror and furrowed his brow,
I held tight the phone to my ears listening to the buzzing sound till it stopped again and again. This was the sixth time but no one picked up.
My pounding heart intensified.
Relax Seraphine, they have been found alive.
As the car came to an abrupt stop, I jumped out and ran towards the front entrance of the hospital building, the only place that holds the most important information to me.
A nurse rushed past me in a hurry, almost knocking me over. No apology was rendered, she didn’t even look at me. But I wasn’t in the mood for formalities either. I rushed through the middle of the human doctors and nurses walking in a group. I stopped in the track of a young lady.
“My children, are they here?”
“What kids?” She responded nonchalantly.
Bitch.
“Are you the mother of the twins involved in the ghastly accident?” A green eyed doctor said as he walked up to me.
My jaw dropped open and I nodded my head affirmatively.
“Where is their father ma’am ?”
I pursed my lower lip, “he…he is stuck at work.”
“Oh! Come with me then.” He said.
For the first time, a little as ten stairs was too long. As I hit the last hurdle, I became nauseated as the smell of medicine hit my nostrils. The waiting room was overly crowded but my presence there seemed unnoticeable.
“Please have a seat ma’am.” The doctor said kindly.
Seat! Could I?
“Where are my children? I was told they were found and brought to the hospital because……”
“I am sorry to break it to you ma’am but the animal attack was too severe and….” He adjusted his eyeglasses.
“Please tell me, doctor.”
“One of the children didn’t make it and the other……”
The biggest bet is that the chair probably slipped off my ass because I was on the floor in seconds.
“You are mistaken doctor, my pups, I got them dressed for school this morning and they were…..”
“I am sorry ma’am, accept my condolences.” He said calmly.
“No doctor, you must be mistaken, I want to see my children.”
Cold shivers ran down my spine, my teardrops intensified and my migraine started again.
“I have to leave now ma’am, the other one is still under observation.” He concluded.
The word hadn’t left his lip when a nurse rushed in.
“Doctor, the child’s wound opened up again and his blood pressure just dropped.”
What child?
“What? Prepare him for the theater.” The doctor ordered, all kindness disappeared from his gaze replaced by urgency.
He turned sharply to face me.
“Ma’am, we need a blood transfusion for your other son now, their father has to be here in two minutes.”
Damian.
I picked up my phone and speed dialed it, this was the seventh time but he rejected it almost instantly. I kept calling while wallowing in unending frustration and pain.
Still nothing.
I held the phone off my ear as it rang on without a response.
I am definitely going to kill Damian when I see him.
“Hello.” A cold voice echoed through the phone screen.
I gasped,
“ Damian,” I paused. “I have been trying to…..never mind, please come to the hospital now, our pups….”
I wiped another teardrop.
“I am already in the hospital.”
I let out a sigh of relief.
“Tell me where you are Damian and i will come to you.”
I will always go to him anytime afterall.
He didn’t need to because I saw him departing from afar, he entered a ward, I abandoned my position and rushed after him.
Damian hadn’t lied, he was in the hospital only that he didn’t come for our pups, he had someone else to nanny.
“Seraphine, you came?” Selena’s weak voice called out as I walked into the room.
Her arms and legs were covered in bandages.
“Seraphine, what did you say happened to the pups?” Damian said while clearing Selena’s food bowl.
My voice turned hoarse, “One of them is…dead Damian and the other ... .is dying.”
The bowl dropped from his hand and broke into pieces, he bent down to pick up the pieces.
Like he had all the time in the world.
“Damian I need your blood to save the other pup, the doctor said you should come now because…..”
“My apologies Seraphine, I tried defending the pups but the rogue was too salvage and I…..” Selena busted into tears.
“Stop crying Selena, it was never your fault, if i had done my due diligence as the Alpha, you wouldn’t end up badly injured and the pups would still be….” Damian started but I cut him off.
“I begged you! I warned you Damian that Selena shouldn’t take my children but you refused,” I paused, “One of them is still alive Damian, for once be a father and save him goddamit!” I yelled.
The door drew open and my mother walked in with a fruit basket accompanied by my father.
“Oh my goodness! My daughter was really battered,I can’t survive if something bad happens to you. We came as soon as we heard, can you move at all?”
“Mum, I fought back, just as you taught me.” Selena said softly.
For me, I stood there, no one noticed, no one cared. Just as a piece of furniture.
“Alpha Damian, thank you for looking after our daughter.” My father said,
“What about me?” My voice rose mixed with pent up rage.
“Seraphine.”
“Yes Mother, what about me? What about your grandchildren? Was it all about Selena?”
“Seraphine,calm down.” Damian called out.
“Tell me mother, your perfect white wolf daughter lived in luxury while I got scraps of attention and affection from life. Why am I continually being ignored and treated as an outsider? A disgrace! Does being wolfless make me less of your bloodline?”
I looked at each one of them, “She is injured and you are all here.”
“It is not what you think Seraphine.” My mother tried to touch me but I shifted aside.
“Seraphine, quit this, you aren’t in the right frame of mind.” Damian said.
“Damn right I am not Damian! Our child just died and the other is dying. You didn’t care, no one did, all that matters was your precious pretty doll lying right there.” I pointed my finger towards Selena.
“Enough! I have heard enough of this Seraphine.” My father yelled, he made towards Selena and patted her head.
“Callous bunch! You are all set of disgusting callous bunch!” I yelled panting hard.
Bamn!
“Don’t ever talk to us like that.”
The strike came as soon as the word left my lip, I looked up at my father’s palm that had just left an excruciating pain on my cheeks.
“Father please, Seraphine is grieving, don’t be so hard on her.” Selena said in tears.
The door opens and the doctor from earlier busted in.
“Thank God. I have looked for you everywhere ma’am, where is the father? We need to make the transfusion right now.”
“Doctor,” I forcefully tore open the left arm of my top, “take my blood, save my son, apparently, his father is dead.”
“Seraphine!” Damian called looking hurt.
The doctor looked in between us and nodded in understanding.
I walked out of the ward with the doctor and Damian followed us behind but he was silent, he didn’t try to diffuse my claim, he just followed.
We neared the theater and the door busted open, an older doctor came out and faced the other doctor.
“Doctor Lance, it is too late.”
They exchanged long gazes.
“What…what is he talking about?” I stuttered.
“Ma’am, I am sorry, I tried to search for you.” The doctor said, his voice cracking badly, he pulled out his eyeglasses and cleaned his eyes with his left palm.
“What happened?” Damian’s voice broke through.
The doctor ignored him,
“Ma’am, his blood loss was too severe, we tried to hold out but he….he didn’t make it too.”
My heart hammered,
He didn’t make it too
That was all I could remember before the world went blank.
