Chapter 5: The heir to the Mafia

Gavin's POV

I stared at the record on my phone showing the ten million dollar transfer from three days ago, now returned.

A cold laugh escaped my lips.

I pulled a cigarette from the pack and lit it, taking a deep drag.

The smoke I exhaled blurred my vision.

Very well, Mia.

You've thoroughly provoked me.

Did she think this was what, some casual romance game where we could part ways amicably?

She was wrong.

When I rewarded her with this money, she should have taken it.

A mistress I picked up from a bar, fucked for three years, now dared to throw my money back at me.

Was this her declaration of independence?

Or was this confidence coming from that so-called "man she likes"?

This wasn't just rejection. This was humiliation.

A blatant provocation against me, Gavin Adams.

"Mr. Adams."

David's voice came from beside me, interrupting my thoughts.

"Your mother, Mrs. Hina, has invited you to the estate for dinner. She says she has something important to discuss with you."

I crushed the cigarette butt in the ashtray and nodded.

"Mm. Arrange for a driver to take me there."

Since divorcing my father, my mother had been living at the estate on the outskirts of the city.

David immediately went to arrange the vehicle.

Upon arriving at the estate, I stepped out of the car. The butler was already waiting respectfully at the entrance.

I walked straight into the living room where my mother Hina sat on the sofa, leafing through a fashion magazine.

Seeing me enter, she immediately set down the magazine.

Her previously tense posture visibly relaxed, and a smile tinged with worry appeared on her face.

"Mom." I gave a simple greeting.

She immediately beckoned me over, signaling for me to sit beside her.

Just as she was about to speak, a servant approached and bowed to Hina. "Madam, young master, dinner is ready."

Hina waved her hand, dismissing the servant, then spoke to me gently. "Gavin, let's talk while we eat."

We moved to the dining room, taking seats at opposite ends of the long table.

Servants quietly served our dishes.

"Your father is about to remarry. Did you know?"

Hina swirled the wine glass in her hand, speaking first.

I narrowed my eyes, and the motion of cutting my steak paused.

"Remarry?"

I gave a slight smile, my tone emotionless.

"Lately, at the corporation, I've noticed a woman by his side. But he changes women every few months. It's nothing unusual."

"Exactly, that bitch!"

Hina's emotions suddenly became agitated. She set her wine glass down heavily on the table.

"I don't know what spell she's cast on your father, but the two of them are actually getting married!"

I used my knife tip to gently prod the bloody steak on my plate, not responding to her words.

I understood her agitation.

For her, this wasn't merely about my father's romantic affairs, but a direct threat to my position.

I let her vent her emotions, knowing she needed to release this pressure before getting to the point.

"Gavin, aren't you worried at all?"

Her voice was filled with anxiety.

"You're the only heir to the Adams family! If that woman has another child and splits the inheritance with you..."

"Don't worry."

I interrupted her, wiping the corner of my mouth with my napkin.

"I won't let that happen."

My grandfather was the true power holder of the Adams family.

My father was his only son.

And I was his only grandson.

On the surface, the Adams family was the wealthiest in the nation.

But beneath that surface, we also controlled the country's largest mafia.

My grandfather was the godfather of the mafia, and I, naturally, was the mafia's only heir.

I would never allow anyone to infringe upon my interests.

Even if that person was my father's new bride.

Otherwise, their fate would have only one ending.

Death.

My words seemed to reassure Hina somewhat.

But she quickly raised another concern.

"I'm not worried about that woman getting pregnant right now. But she has a son, already twenty-one years old."

She paused, deliberating for a moment before continuing.

"I heard that your father has already allowed that boy to change his surname to Adams!"

I picked up my wine glass, took a light sip, then directly gave an order to David standing beside me.

"Look into that man's situation."

Hina nodded with satisfaction, a smile appearing on her face.

"In that case, I'll arrange a marriage between you and the Bell family. That way, we can increase our chances."

I frowned, finally lifting my eyes to look at her.

"What did you say? So the engagement rumors circulating lately were your doing."

My tone had taken on a note of displeasure.

"I did it, so what?"

Hina showed no guilt.

"It's time you got engaged. I have my eye on the Bell family's young lady, Eva."

Someone from the Bell family?

Hearing this name from my mother's lips made even the premium wagyu beef in my mouth taste bland.

I had absolutely no interest in this.

This disgusting transaction stirred an inexplicable irritation in my heart.

For some reason, at this moment, Mia's face suddenly flashed through my mind.

Thinking of this damned woman, she actually dared to like another man behind my back!

Imagining her beneath another man, making those same wanton moans she made beneath me, I wanted nothing more than to go break that man's neck right now!

I ignored Hina's words, threw down my knife and fork, stood up, and walked out of the dining room.

David immediately followed behind me.

"Gavin!" Hina's voice called out from behind, but my footsteps didn't stop.

I'd had many mistresses.

But after meeting Mia, she became the only woman by my side.

I loved how wanton she was in bed, and how docile she was in daily life.

I thought she would always be this way, like a little dog I kept, staying by my side forever.

Until a few days ago, when she actually dared to bring up breaking up with me.

"Have you found anything?" I asked coldly.

"Sir, these past few days, Miss Mia hasn't shown any unusual behavior, and no other men have appeared around her."

David paused, then spoke again.

"Sir, should we continue the surveillance?"

I stopped, turned around, and looked at him.

"Yes."

"Even if Mia dies, she can only be my woman."
