Chapter 5

Marian White looked directly at Burke Woolley as she slowly spoke these words. Burke Woolley wore a confident smile on his face. If it were anyone else who said those words, they might have seemed unsure of themselves. But not him. He was Burke Woolley.

Marian White wasn’t particularly happy to hear him say that. Instead, she felt a sense of heaviness in her heart. Perhaps Burke Woolley didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation, but he himself knew exactly how deep the problems were. Lord Six would certainly not give up so easily. Thinking about what lay ahead, she felt even more worried.

But what happened tonight has already taken place. There’s no point in saying anything more. Marian White sighed softly and sat quietly in her armchair.

The Demon Realm isn’t that simple. Its power structure is highly complex. Since you’ve taken the first step today, all you need to do is prepare properly for what comes next.

Burke Woolley was confident enough to ignore those lackeys. Still, Marian White’s words touched her heart.

Don’t worry. It’s only a matter of time before we deal with them. If he dares to cause trouble here again in the future, don’t blame me for not warning him.

Marian White gently shook her head and waved her hand.

You go ahead! You surely have your own cards up your sleeve. It’s not convenient for me to reveal too much to you. In any case, you should be careful these next few days. I’m sure Lord Liu will take action soon.

Actually, Burke Woolley knew all this without her having to tell him. But this time, he wasn’t going to sit back and do nothing. Since he’d already stirred up trouble, might as well clean things up completely.

Burke Woolley lowered his head slightly, gave Marian White a nod of respect, then turned and left the yard. Marian White watched his graceful figure, both lonely and upright. She gently touched her forehead, unsure whether what he had done was right or wrong.

Actually, all of this was noticed by someone who was paying attention. After all, that Sixth Master wasn’t completely stupid. As soon as Phoebe Evan left his place, he sent one of his lackeys to keep an eye on things, so that he could be informed of the results before they could get to him. That lackey was clever enough, thinking everything was under control. But who would have thought that Burke Woolley would beat that person up like that?

The lackey was naturally terrified, his hands trembling involuntarily. He had served Lord Liu for quite some time. Although things had ended in this manner tonight, with the Evan family’s immense power at their disposal, they would surely come after Lord Liu again. Realizing this, he quickly hid himself quietly. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, he fled on all fours toward Lord Liu’s headquarters.

After being given such a lesson, Phoebe Evan was naturally filled with grief and anger. That very night, she went to the Evan family’s ancestral home. She simply couldn’t accept this defeat. Since there was nothing she could do against Lord Six, she decided to have someone at the ancestral home take care of that boy.

Lord Six had a woman in his arms when the lackey barged in carelessly. Lord Six frowned.

Why are you being so reckless in whatever you do? Why don’t you report matters properly first? Why are you becoming more and more unruly?

The lackeys were anxiously waiting for orders. They knelt down, trembling with fear, while sweat streamed down their faces. Seeing that the situation wasn’t going well, Lord Six slapped the woman in his arms to send her away. Then, the woman kissed Lord Six on the face and left, with a seductive demeanor.

At this moment, the little lackey kneeling on the ground finally dared to speak up: “Lord Liu, that man’s strength is truly overwhelming. Zhuque Lai'er and the other three of them combined still can’t subdue him. Now that Young Master Evan has returned to the old mansion, I’m afraid… I’m afraid he’ll come after you for trouble…”

Upon hearing this, Lord Six jumped up in surprise. He couldn’t believe his ears and asked, “What are you talking about? Zhuque Lai'er and Qinglong, plus Xuanwu… I’ve given him all four of the great masters. How could he still not be able to defeat a mere lackey?”

The lackey quickly replied, “I swear to you, it’s true. All four of them were defeated. And that kid even said that we should…”

At this point, he seemed too afraid to speak, and lowered his head dejectedly. Lord Liu was furious. Seeing his timid behavior only made him angrier. He stepped forward two or three times and kicked him.

If you have something to say, just tell me directly. What’s the point of being so hesitant? What else did that brat say?

The lackey stammered, “That kid also said that I shouldn’t ever set foot in Marian White’s territory again. Otherwise, he’d make sure I paid for it. He told me to deliver this message to you… and said that you should wait for him to come and take your life…”

At this point, he didn’t dare say anything further, because Lord Six’s face had turned as dark as if ink was about to drip from it. Lord Six paced back and forth in the private room, gritting his teeth in a furious manner, which scared Phoebe Evan into silence.

Then, Lord Six’s angry voice was heard: “Damn it! What kind of person is he anyway? He’s been here for barely any time, and already dares to act like a hero in front of me? Does he really think he’s some kind of savior?”

The lackeys didn’t dare speak. Lord Liu became even angrier: “Hmph! If he really wants to seek death, I’ll give him what he wants. What’s the big deal about injuring four mere guards? This time, I’ll make sure he never sees the sun again!”

The lackey was drenched in sweat. But judging from Lord Six’s attitude, it was clear that that kid, Burke Woolley, had really angered him. As the saying goes, even a mighty dragon can’t suppress the local snake. And although Lord Six wasn’t exactly a “local snake,” he still had quite a bit of influence in this area.

Lord Six also seemed very angry. Then, suddenly, he smiled. The lackeys knew that this time, Lord Six was serious.

Lord Six picked up the phone. He said something to the person on the other end, but hung up quickly. With a serious expression on his face, he said, “I refuse to believe that if I invite this man here, Burke Woolley will ever have another chance to turn things around.”

Phoebe Evan didn’t understand what it meant. As he pondered, a man dressed in combat gear entered the room. The man had furrowed eyebrows, and his eyes emitted a murderous gaze. The lackey was a little scared and swallowed hard.

It seemed as though the man noticed his movements. With a scornful smile, he stood there, upright in the hall. Lord Six smoked his cigarette, gently tapping the flame with his finger. Then, in a harsh tone, he said, “Five hundred thousand. That’s the price for Burke Woolley’s life.”

The lackey didn’t expect that Lord Six was willing to go all out for this matter. Moreover, although this man seemed impatient, strangely, he didn’t contradict Lord Six at all. Having been around for several years, the lackey could tell right away that this man must be someone important.

The man didn’t even ask who Burke Woolley really was. He simply nodded his head. Then, the Sixth Master gave him the exact location. The man quickly left with the note in hand.

After seeing that Lord Six had finished making arrangements, the lackey felt a little better and dared to ask, “Who is this person? He doesn’t seem like an ordinary person.” Lord Six smiled coldly, “Number ten on the Demon Realm Killers’ List: Jesse Pope.”

The lackey stared wide-eyed: “Is that Jesse Pope—the guy who only asks about the price and who’s willing to kill anyone, as long as the price is right? I thought it would be difficult to hire him?”
