Chapter 7
Then, Little Patton lowered his head for a moment before continuing, “Although we all think this way, we really don’t dare to do anything. First, we don’t have the strength to do so. Second, they’re people even Lord Six doesn’t dare to provoke. It can be said that you’ve really caused quite a lot of trouble for Miss White.”
Burke Woolley frowned, but the woman didn’t say a single word of reproach toward him. Everything she said was full of concern for him. An unfamiliar feeling welled up in Burke Woolley’s heart.
Then, Little Patton gently patted his shoulder and said, “But don’t worry. Lord Six probably won’t cause any trouble for Miss White. Although you’ve caused some trouble, it was also a lesson for them. Miss White is a very principled person. The fact that Lord Six hasn’t come after you yet likely means that Miss White has intervened on your behalf.”
Upon hearing this, Burke Woolley felt somewhat uncomfortable. He had come here to protect this woman, yet, through a series of coincidences, it was she who ended up protecting him instead. Burke Woolley’s expression became somewhat unnatural.
Little Patton noticed his expression and thought he was embarrassed. So, he comforted him, saying, “Oh, you don’t need to feel embarrassed. Miss White is very kind-hearted. Whenever we get into trouble, it’s always she who protects us!”
Upon hearing this, Burke Woolley felt a strange sensation in his heart. The two of them continued talking as they arrived at the lounge. Little Patton took out a key from his waist, opened the door, and stepped inside. After Burke Woolley turned on the light, he found that the room was fairly clean.
After going through so much, Burke Woolley really didn’t have high expectations regarding material comforts. So, this small room was more than sufficient for him. It was getting late. Little Patton yawned, then said goodnight to him and went to his own room.
It was then that Burke Woolley realized that Little Patton’s room was right across from his own. As soon as Little Patton entered his room, he closed the door. The hallway became dark again. Burke Woolley’s eyes glowed in the darkness, filled with a murderous intent.
Just then, a murderous intent rushed in from outside the window. Burke Woolley quickly closed the door. In the instant he did so, a small knife was thrust against the door, right next to his hair.
Then, Burke Woolley snapped the light off. A cold smirk appeared on his lips. He hadn’t expected them to arrive so quickly. Glancing at the knife on the door, Burke Woolley let out a cold snort.
It’s just trivial trickery. I wonder how you’ll manage to identify me in the darkness. But these days, few people still use such methods to kill. It seems I underestimated their capabilities. I thought they’d use snipers or something like that.
Thinking of this, Burke Woolley felt a surge of determination to win. Judging from the force with which the knife had pierced the wood, the person who came here was clearly skilled in martial arts. It was unclear, however, whether he could still wield his skills in the darkness just as effectively as before.
Jesse Pope broke in through the window. He was also a bit surprised that Burke Woolley had managed to dodge his attack just now. After all, his hidden blades were quite skilled in terms of their effectiveness. It was unexpected that Burke could dodge them so easily. Moreover, Burke even went so far as to turn off the light. Such mental fortitude wasn’t something ordinary people possessed.
It seems that this time, Lord Six has found a rather interesting opponent. Jesse Pope isn’t afraid at all. He simply breaks through the window and enters. Then, his sharp eyes fix on Burke Woolley, who’s hiding in the shadows. A small knife is swiftly thrust forward by his hand.
Burke Woolley never expected that this person would quickly figure out where he was hiding. With a quick turn, he avoided the knife and stepped forward toward Jesse Pope. The newcomer’s eyes were bright, and his demeanor suggested he wasn’t some petty thug.
Burke Woolly said loudly, “It seems the person they’ve brought this time is quite interesting.” Jesse Pope also felt a certain amount of respect for the man who had taken his hidden weapon for the second time. But after all, he had to take revenge for the money he’d lost and for the favor he owed that old scoundrel. No matter how much he admired the man, he still had to take his life.
Then he pursed his lips and went straight into a fierce fight with Burke Woolley. Burke Woolley wasn’t afraid of him at all. For a while, it was hard to tell who was superior—the punches flew fast from both sides. Jesse Pope really admired his opponent. After all, no one had ever managed to dodge his hidden weapons before. Yet this man had done it twice.
In the subsequent exchanges, he felt even more admiration for him. Burke Woolley also began to like the man before him. Just by seeing how decisive his punches and kicks were, it was clear that he was no ordinary person.
For a moment, Burke Woolley actually thought about making him submit to his will. At that thought, he exerted a little more force in his punches and kicks. No matter how skilled Jesse Pope might be, he wasn’t Burke Woolley’s match after all. After several rounds, Jesse Pope was gradually at a disadvantage.
He furrowed his brows tightly. He never expected to encounter such a tough opponent this time. No previous opponent had ever been so difficult to deal with. A drop of sweat rolled down from his forehead. The two of them had exchanged dozens of blows in that confined space.
The difference between the two was immediately apparent. Although neither side gained anything from the situation, Burke Woolley was clearly in much better shape than Jesse Pope.
Burke Woolley remained calm and composed, while Jesse Pope was clearly struggling to breathe evenly. He had already been hit several times. Even though Burke Woolley tried to be gentle in his attacks, Jesse Pope’s chest was in chaos due to the blows he received.
At that moment, Burke Woolley said calmly, “With your skills, why would you work for such a despicable person? I know who sent you here. Don’t you think it’s a shame to give your life for him?” Jesse Pope gritted his teeth. Of course, he wasn’t willing to do this, but after all, Lord Six still held a favor over him.
Jesse Pope said softly, “A drop of kindness should be repaid with a fountain of gratitude. So please go all out this time!” Burke Woolley laughed mockingly, “If you understand this principle, then you shouldn’t do this at all. You know, if I went all out, your head would be separated from your body by now.”
Jessie Pope gritted his teeth. Though he refused to admit it, it was true. He closed his eyes. He had wasted too much time here, yet he could still only draw with him. No, if it weren’t for the other man’s willingness to concede, he might already be dead.
Thinking of this, he had no desire to fight anymore. The winner and loser had already been determined. Jesse Pope bowed to Burke Woolley, then said through gritted teeth, “This time, it’s because I wasn’t skilled enough. But there will be another chance. If I ever want to beat you, it will be through fair means. This time you showed mercy, but next time, don’t.”
After saying that, he turned around and went over to the window. Just before leaving, he couldn’t help but add one more thing: “Although you’re very capable, the mess you’ve created isn’t something that can be easily resolved. There will be many more problems to deal with in the future. You’d better take care of yourself!”
After saying that, she leaped out with grace. Burke Woolley simply raised his eyebrows indifferently. Although this guy had attacked him unexpectedly, annoying him, his attitude was much better than those previous individuals, and his skills were also far superior.
Berk Woolley said softly, “What’s there to be afraid of? When soldiers come, we fight back; when water overflows, we build dikes to hold it back. I don’t believe that his tiny Evan family can actually throw me off balance.”
