Chapter 9
Ever since Mona Mini started hanging around with Lord Six, her behavior became even more erratic. To begin with, not many people in the bar liked him anyway. He was considered an oddball who liked to oppose Marian White. Since Marian White was generally nice to the waitstaff, quite a few of them didn’t like Mona Mini either.
But there are always those who flatter others. As soon as Mona Minnie gained power, they naturally refused to obey Marian White’s rules anymore. One day, while everyone was doing their duties, Mona Minnie walked in, swaying her flirtatious hips.
Ever since she came in, all her female colleagues started to fawn over her. They were all aware of Mona Mini’s relationship with Lord Six. After all, Lord Six was a prominent figure in Schiller Finance. Any of these employees would want to be associated with him, so naturally, they paid Mona Mini even more attention and flattered her even more.
One of the women, who was dressed provocatively but couldn’t hide her flirtatious nature, approached her, wearing a sly smile. “Minnie, where were you yesterday? You must have gone shopping again, right? Your skin looks even better than before. Did you go to the beauty salon again yesterday?”
Mona Mini proudly showed off the diamond ring on her finger. Although she clearly wanted to show off, she tried to act nonchalant: “It’s nothing special. I just went shopping with Lord Liu in a few shops, that’s why I got back a little late.”
Hearing her words, several girls present couldn’t help but let out a gasp. They never expected that Mona Mini had actually succeeded in seducing Lord Six. One of the girls was even more surprised. As if afraid that others wouldn’t notice, she held Mona Mini’s hand and said, “Oh, Mona Mini! Isn’t that the limited-edition diamond ring? Lord Six is really kind to you.”
That one sentence really drew many envious looks. Mona Mini felt a bit elated. She covered her mouth and laughed softly, saying, “It’s nothing really. I don’t really like such luxurious things. But there’s nothing I can do. Lord Six insists on buying them for her. No matter how much I try to stop him, he won’t listen.”
You’re really something, Mona Mini. Yeah, you’re so beautiful. It’s great that Lord Six is willing to spend money on you. When you become successful, don’t forget your sisters.
Everyone crowded around Mona Minnie, flattering her with their words. Meanwhile, Burke Woolley and Little Barton sat at the bar, watching the women gathered together. Little Barton couldn’t help but scowl, and his glass clanked noisily in his hand.
Burke Woolley gave Little Patton a slight glance. Little Patton, annoyed, said, “That bitch really thinks she’s something special. Doesn’t she realize who Lord Six really is? When he gets tired of her, she won’t even know how to cry.”
Burke Woolley said nothing when he heard her angry words, but he thought to himself. This woman didn’t seem easy to deal with. She was like this even before Marian White arrived. And after what happened last night, she must have also offended Lord Six. Maybe she’s here with some ulterior motives?
Little Patton was still fuming with anger over there. But then, he thought to himself with concern, “Damn it, maybe that bitch has said something bad about Lord Six to him?” Burke Woolley gave him a slight glance. Little Patton threw the rag he was holding aside, rolled up his sleeves, and prepared to go confront him.
Burke Woolley stopped him. Little Barton stared at him with wide eyes and said, “Don’t stop me, Nan. You have no idea how this woman can twist things around! She never got along with Miss White to begin with. Now that she’s associated with Lord Six, who knows what bad things she might say about Miss White behind our backs!”
Burke Woolley glanced briefly at the woman who was still showing off. Her face showed unmistakable pride. Realizing that Little Barton and Burke Woolley were watching her, Mona Mini also returned their provocative glances. This infuriated Little Barton. He couldn’t believe this woman actually dared to challenge him!
Little Patton threw the rag in his hand aside and said in a sarcastic tone, “Oh, what’s with all this foggy weather early in the morning? Turns out, there’s a fly here!” After saying that, he stuck his hands on his hips in a proud manner, glancing at Mona Mini sideways.
I never expected Mona Mini to act so differently from her usual self. Instead of getting angry, she laughed and said, “Little Patton! Why are you so irritable this early in the morning? Did you not get enough rest yesterday?” Normally, this woman would have already started cursing. It’s surprising that she’s so calm today.
Little Patton didn’t care one bit about her attitude. He certainly wouldn’t change his opinion of her just because she behaved nicely. Little Patton gently blew his hair aside and glared at her, saying, “Why do you keep dreaming of becoming some kind of noblewoman or princess? I tell you, face reality! You look just like you do now. Do you really think you’re some kind of lady?”
What Mona Minnie hated most was Little Patton’s sarcastic attitude. She clenched her fists so tightly that her long nails dug into her palms. She really wanted to slap Little Dance in the face. But then, remembering that today would be the day she would take Maryanne White’s place, she suddenly felt excited.
I say, Little Patton, you really have no sense of what’s going on around you. Do you really believe that you only have one master? What’s the point of supporting Marian White if she were to lose her position one day? In life, one must know when to act wisely, not act like a fool.
Little Patton snorted, then said disdainfully, “Even if Sister An steps down, it won’t be your turn to take her place. Do you really think you’re something special? What qualifications do you have? All you know how to do is act flirtatious. If I were a woman, I’d be better than you!”
Hearing this, Mona Mini could no longer keep her composure. She took a deep breath and was about to scold him. Just then, a calm voice spoke up: “What are you all standing around for? Have you stopped doing business?”
Everyone stepped aside willingly, lowering their heads in fear, too scared to speak. Burke Woolley followed that path with his gaze. What he saw was still the same person: dressed in black, with hair tied into a ponytail. Her small face wore a cold expression. She seemed even more aloof than the first day he met her. Marian White had arrived.
Seeing Marian White like this, Mona Mini also felt a bit anxious and scared. But then, remembering that she had Lord Six as her backer, she forced herself to appear more confident. She also changed her usual submissive attitude toward Marian White. Although her back remained straight, there was still a hint of uncertainty in her demeanor.
Marian White glanced at her and Little Barton briefly. Little Barton quickly lowered his head and called out to Sister Ann. Marian White nodded slightly. Then she noticed Mona Mini. Seeing how Mona Mini tried to appear calm, Marian White couldn’t help but laugh.
Mona Mini was too embarrassed by her mockery. She tried to act tough and said, “Water, Marian White, stop thinking about anything else for now. Lord Six said that the first thing you should do upon arriving at the bar today is to go find him.”
Marian White smiled softly. She had anticipated this situation today.
