Chapter 3
Scarlett's pov
"You are banished from this pack Scarlett and I've given all the wolves instructions to attack you on sight if you are still within these pack walls in five minutes," My alpha's voice boomed and my eyes widened.
All the other wolves howled in agreement and wasted no time in pushing me around, all of them eager to get a taste of me. I turned on my heels and ran for my life, knowing they wouldn't let that time elapse before they chased me down.
My lungs squeezed in protest as I ran as fast as my feet could carry me. I didn't dare look back as I heard their heavy footsteps behind me and I knew they weren't too far off.
"You filthy rogue, you won't get off these grounds alive," One of them growled just before I was tackled to the ground.
I groaned as pain erupted through me and dirt entered my mouth.
"Do you think we are going to let you live?" One of them sneered at me as they laughed mockingly and began to circle me. I felt them closing in on me and I grew desperate, I looked around me and pounced without warning at one of the wolves. I clawed and struggled but I was no match for them as the wolf clawed my face and I was sent whimpering onto the floor. As I chanced a look at them my heart dropped.
This was it...they were going to kill me. I let out an agonizing howl of defeat as they pounced on me.
My eyes slowly peered open as I blinked into consciousness. My heart hammered loudly in my chest and my breathing came out ragged.
It was only a dream I realized as I surveyed my surroundings.
The sun glared down at me from where I lay and I groaned as I tried to sit up.
Where the hell was I?
The weariness from the dream gave way to something else...a deep panic that gripped me as I noted my surroundings.
I looked around me but I couldn't recognize where it is I was. I was surrounded by trees all around save for a little cottage a little distance away.
What was I doing here?
As I stood, pain seared through me and I gripped the tree for support as all my memories from the previous day came flooding back. I could still remember the feel of the heat as the flames licked my skin as well as Silas' cold, unfeeling eyes as he watched me scream and beg for a chance to explain myself. My heart physically hurt and tears stung the back of my eyes but I held them in.
The real question that plagued my mind now was how exactly I was alive.
I remembered the last breath I took before I felt the breath getting sucked out of me so how did I get here?
I looked down at my hands and apart from the fact that they didn't bear any burn marks, they seemed unfamiliar, like I was looking at someone else through my eyes.
Panic gripped me as I stumbled towards the little cottage, I didn't know what was going on but something within me told me it was mine. I listened carefully as I approached the cottage and when it was clear it was vacant, I slowly made my way in. The foul stench of a rogue instantly attacked my senses but to my greatest surprise, I was repulsed as I slowly realized that stench clung to me as well.
The cottage was barely standing and it was clear whoever lived here was poverty-stricken as the room barely held anything, save for a little mat which was spread out in a corner. I tried to calm myself as I walked into the makeshift bathroom which was no better than the other room and as I stared into the cracked mirror I gasped.
A stranger stared back at me from my reflection and I wondered if I was running mad as I observed myself.
Blue eyes stared back at me instead of my usual brown ones and I spied a scar just above my eyebrow and I gasped. Something told me I got that from the fight with the wolves from the dream...only it hadn't been a dream at all, it was a memory. Whoever this person was, I was somehow in their body and I relived their memories.
But how was this possible?
Was the woman in my body? No that wasn't possible since my body would have probably been nothing more than ashes by now.
My thoughts were jumbled as I tried to make sense of everything that was going on but it was just too much to comprehend.
I tried to reach out to my wolf but I couldn't feel her. Had she died along with me?
A deep sense of loneliness enveloped me and I hugged myself as I stared into the mirror.
This...whatever this was, was worse than death and I suddenly wished my soul would have died in that fire along with my body and my wolf.
A tingle within me alerted me that something was wrong...much worse than my current predicament.
"Run," A tiny voice within me urged me as I heard heavy footsteps approaching at a distance. My hearing seemed heightened as I could tell whoever they were that was coming was still a good distance off. I crept my way out of the cottage and my eyes immediately met green glinting ones in the distance.
"Found her," The man announced to the other wolves who snapped up at his words, their eyes zeroing in on me as they stalked closer.
"Finally Scarlett, you are one hard rogue to catch," the man smirked at me before he transformed and raced towards me at full speed.
With wide eyes I darted in the opposite direction, ignoring the howls behind me.
What the hell was going on?
